I love Rik & Eddie. My wife and I saw them in their live show twice many years ago. One was at the Hammersmith Apollo......where they "lived" 🤣 So sad Rik is no longer with us, a comic talent and all round nice bloke taken too soon 😥

Although I think the characters still translate well - middle class commie, hippy, punk and whatever Mike was - there's a lot of stuff that was dated even by the time Bottom came out. I do think the general chaos and randomness manages to cover that gap fairly well but it leans more heavily on knowledge of 80s student culture...which was still stuck in the 70s itself.
I remember laughing so hard I thought something was going to prolapse when Eddie gets kicked in the bollocks at the very end 8:54. The look on his face absolutely destroyed me! Me and the mates rewound the fuck out of that bit and laughed harder every time we saw it!
Third series is good. I remember watching "Hole" when it was first released. An entire episode done in a Ferris Wheel compartment. "Terror" is hilarious if you like terrifying Halloween bananas and "Holy" from series 2 is probably the best one.
I hate that they edited this. I remember the original version when he called him a gypo. Plus when Richie says "I know what you gypsies get up to when the lights go out" they added that really loud sound effect to cover the word gypsy. So stupid!

I think it was a good think to dub over it really, given the modern times if it hadn't it could of been used as a reason to pull the series from being shown on the likes of Netflix. Its not a word that current society picks up on all that much compared to others but there is an element of disrespect to it in most contexts so I suppose its for the best really.
Anyone else recommended the young ones yet? That was my childhood favourite. I love dexys midnight runners thanks to that show ✌🏼 great reaction mate (I have read the comments and am happy to see great minds think alike)

Rik Mayall is one of the greatest comedy actors of our time and he was taken far too soon. He also did some adverts for Nintendo which were in his usual wacky style.
The best thing about this is knowing it gets so much better than this, mate. You've still got the absolute apex of anarchic comedy to go with Hole, Burglary, Culture, Dough...well, pretty much every one from now until the end bar Parade, too much topical humour in that one that even went over my head at the time.
I think a great one to see is Alexander and Armstrong when they do WWII in todays language, you might find that funny! thanks, love your reactions and getting the English humor.
You really need to see the live shows if you haven't already. I watched the first 3 in person and loved them. There are 5 in total but I really only rewatch the first 2 which I highly recommend.
First and fourth, and most of the fifth for me. I think there's too much filler in the second and third. Still have their brilliant moments, mind. There's also Guest House Paradiso but they changed too much of the setting and backstory of the characters for me to really call it unmissable. Still worth a watch (and reaction) to cap off the Bottom saga though.

Besides it’s surly worth watching such an influential part of British sitcom history. Its culture! 😉😂😂😂 seriously though... Neils response to the old lady in the graveyard asking him “do you dig graves young man?” Or Viv smashing through the “floor” into the “ceiling” of the opposing team on university challenge! Motor head showing up to do a gig in the living room! It might not be as polished as bottom but that’s not it’s appeal. What is? A decade earlier these two were half of the characters in The Young Ones. Similar humour and format, very funny. Don't bother with Filthy rich and catflap or their film, Guesthouse Paradiso, they were rubbish.
