  • Kara Bos was born in Korea and adopted by an American couple in Sheridan, Michigan when she was about 3 years old. She had never felt the need to find her birth family until her daughter turned two years old. Her love for her two children and wish for them to know their origins sparked the search for her birth mother and her Korean identity.
Ms. Bos’s adoption journey opened her eyes to the realities of the adoption process. As she uncovered more documents and confronted conflicting information, she realized that it is not always as straightforward or honorable as she had believed it to be. Years of searching and going back and forth to Korea, she had a breakthrough when a DNA match came back positive - her half-nephew. Through this connection, she was able to make a family tree and find her assumed father and half-sisters.
As the search for answers and who her mother could be went on, Ms. Bos was met with closed doors by her assumed family. The continued refusals ultimately led Ms. Bos to file a paternity suit in 2019, something she had never expected to do. By June 2020, it was recognized by the Seoul Family Court that this man is her father.
The pushback Ms. Bos faced by her birth family was turbulent and painful, but she is grateful she met them and have a basic understanding of who and where she comes from. Kara Bos hopes that her children view her exploration of her identity as something courageous and through her experience they will also find pride in who they are as Koreans.

Just did the math. He was 49 when she was born. It's extremely likely it was out of wedlock / affair.
I think the slight bright spot is her mother is likely in her 60s. But, she might have her own family now.

In a way, you doing this and making it public was like doing it for ALL adoptees. It’s been really eye opening.

I love that her daughter wore the same outfit that she did when she was a child. I'm glad you were able to get some closure on your mystery.

A story that many of us (Korean adoptees) can relate to. Although you didn't get to see his face, he was able to see yours. Perhaps in his final breaths, he saw your face and the emotions started flowing from him. Of course, you cannot know, but your story is heartbreaking but also inspirational for all of us who are attempting to find our birth parents.

You are so brave. I do remember seeing your story in the Korean news. It was so inspirational because I believe in adoptee rights (I'm not an adoptee). With your father gone, perhaps your sisters can reach out to you and you guys can forge a relationship, Please don't give up, Perhaps you could write a personal letter to them, or let them know about this video. I am so sorry for the pain you went through,

Nah, never feel guilty for going public about it or having it be sensationalized. its not our fault that they don't give us our own damn information. its not just THEIR info its OUR ORIGINS. like how dare they criticize us for wanting to know the most basic info like a birthday.

Is it because her father had been moneyed that they thought they can get away from it? Sometimes to become rich, some do not use their hearts... 😔😞

The moral of the story for adoptees: start your search earlier rather than later if you are interested. It becomes a math / life expectancy game the longer you wait.

Someone explained their traumatic experience to her and asked for her help but she just blocked him. Horrible person.
