  • In today’s video, I do an overview of my UBC Medical School application as a Canadian applicant! I am hoping future medical school applicants can find this helpful in terms of preparing for their med school applications. Most of all, I hope you get inspired to follow your passions and not do typical extracurriculars simply for the sake of the application. I’ve always seen tons of videos like this for the AMCAS (US med school application), but not so much for Canada, and hence, I’m excited to share my journey with you all!
Remember, the purpose of this video is to inspire and motivate you - comparison is the biggest killer of creativity. Your biggest superpower is that you are YOU and no one can take that from you. During your whole pre-med journey make sure to be yourself, have fun and help others along the way. A person's most useful asset is not a head full of knowledge, but a heart full of love, an ear ready to listen and a hand willing to help others. - Kotaku Wamura

    Hey Sahil!
I thought I’d give this video a watch as medicine has always been something that has interested me from a young age. Living not to far from UBC, I’ve always thought that if I tried hard enough in school I could end up as a pre-med at UBC. Unfortunately I could never seem to get the grades I wanted. I guess I’m just not built for it. I just graduated from BCIT with my BBA (bachelors or business administration) and thought maybe there is still a chance if I take general chem + general bio and get good grades in them. Sadly with my average grade staying around the 80% mark throughout my post secondary years, its not looking very good even with those additions.
HOWEVER, I still felt inclined to leave a comment because of your amazing attitude and great work ethic. Although med school may be something I might not ever be able to get into, your good vibes and strong determination has motivated me to try even harder in what ever is next for me! So keep on keepin on man! 🤙🏽

      Hey Peter,
First of al, thank you so much for sharing this with me. I 'm so grateful that I could play a small role in motivating you. In regards to getting into medicine, I wholeheartedly believe that a positive mindset and an exceptional work ethic can get you to your goal. The only disability in life is a bad attitude. If this is a dream that you're still passionate about, send me an email at sc_chawla@yahoo.com - and I'd love to chat more over Zoom and see how we can help you get prep for getting into medicine. Remember, we have to stay fixated on our goal but be flexible in our approach. I believe in you man! Regardless of your end goal, I know you're gonna do amazing things! :) God Bless ❤️🙏

    Hi Sahil!
This video was super helpful! Thank you for making such an informative video :)
Just a quick question : I did A levels in high school (which is similar to IB) and they were accepted as transfer credits at my university. Would I need a transcript from my high school or is the university transcript mentioning the transfer credits enough?
    Thank you :)

This video is just awesome. I will be applying this upcoming cycle and I know that excel sheet is gonna help me, thank you.
I was wondering if I should include volunteer experiences that only helped me accumulate ~15 hrs total from them. I know UBC values high time commitment but do you think adding them is better than nothing?

Hi Mohammad, I'm so glad you found this video and the Google Sheet helpful!! In regards to including a volunteer experience on there or not, I think ultimately that has to be your choice. However, from my little experience, I'll share that regardless of the time commitment involved, if that experience was a very important one that genuinely impacted and shaped the person you are today, I would include it. I hope that helps! :)
