I've seen a few Zoltar or related machines from the same company, out in the wild. And without exception, I've never seen one that was fully functional. People buy them but they don't maintain them and they fall apart. I've never seen one where the animatronic actually moved properly. Most of them tend to be frozen and can't even move. Heck. It seems that the people who buy these machines don't even clean the insides of them, and Zoltar gets covered in dust and dirt. A Zoltar machine is like a pinball machine. You can't just buy it and just leave it there. It needs maintenance after a while.
Thanks for putting together this review. I did not know about a mini Zoltar coming out and I want one. It will look awesome next to my F.A.O. Schwartz Great Zoltan fortune teller machine. Plus, Zoltar is from "Big", so it's an even better movie prop.
@@GenXGrownUp dude, it’s not 1984, COD (cash on delivery) doesn’t exist anymore, nobody does mail order from a catalog and UPS Red label has been gone for decades. GenX, me, also built the Internet over the past 30 years so we didn’t have to deal with this. Ironic you say this on RUclips, perhaps we should wait for your video in syndication on WPWR and let you get ad revenue after that. The days of funding someone else’s R&D are gone, which was the most Millennial thing ever anyways. If you can’t afford that capital, do a Kickstarter, at least then the consumer has some protections.
Oh man... sometimes you didn't know you needed something in your life until you see it.... This is sooooo cool! I like the movie BIG also very much. And thus when I saw a Zoltar machine somewhere I asked the person I was with to make a picture with me and Zoltar :D I believe it was in Vegas.
@@GenXGrownUp hey a win is a win! Just kidding I’m actually very delighted your out and doing better. Positive healthy vibes your way man, as another GenX I get it!
From comments here, it sounds like Zoltar machines actually existed (specifically Zoltar, not just fortune machines), so my question is this: did these specific machines exist before the movie Big, or did they come about via licensing from the ip holders with the Big production company? I do remember seeing fortune machines in the past, but I couldn't say what the names were.
The "Zoltan" fortune telling machines date back to the late 1960s. I expect Big riffed on "Zoltan" for "Zoltar," which then became the popular machine being manufactured due to its appearance in the film.
Ooh- that's really close to the original name and sounds like it's still infringement territory- why not just license it at that point? I mean, if K.C. Munchkin was close enough to Pac-Man to infringe on it, then changing just a single letter in Zoltan surely qualifies? Oh, what do I know- I'm not a lawyer.
Growing up in Central Florida, Walt Disney World used to have a Penny Arcade right on Main Street, and they before arcade games took over, they had a great number of old coin-operated novelties like this. That was my biggest exposure to fortune tellers and even those "movie" machines where you turn the crank and the cards flip by.
@@GenXGrownUp We had the crank ones at Disneyland (SoCal) in the Penney Arcade. Those were always so cool to watch. If they had one of these my eyeballs and it never crossed paths.
It's definitely coming. They're fufilling pre-orders, and then it'll go on sale on the site. If you're interested, be sure to get yourself on the wait list!
I'm sure that's possible. Would need to match the paper weight & dimensions as well as spaced perforations to match what the motor expects to spit out on each cycle.
I haven't seen Zoltar in real life in years, however I seen Zoltar ones in a while on RUclips in a traveling RUclips's videos
I want a laughing sally mini
I got one! Preordered since i love Zoltar and his words of wisdom. Great review!
Awesome! Thank you!
My place of work has one of these machines...... it's actually just outside the door to the storage room...... so I hear it...... allot.....
@@Trialwolf I can almost see the anger in your eyes.
I like this idea. I'm not a huge fan enough to want one, but it's cool.
Great review!
The production value is always a level above the rest for me
👊🏻😎
1. Remove the ticket roll from the machine
2. Unroll the paper and scan it
3. Print a copy
4. Replace the original from the roll with the copy
5. Store the original
6. Let your friends rip the paper
7. Be happy
A lot more variables: match proper width and paper stock, and then perforate at the correct distances.
(But certainly do-able)
It's cool and a bit more animated than my FAO Schwartz one which looks similar to the BIG cabinet one but not enough to pull the trigger
Will it make me big?
Maybe. 😁
The Big Mac already made you big
I didnt fast forward through the quick pitch! lol. KEEP ON KEEPIN' ON!
Yay!
Awesome review! Cool fortune teller and it gives real words of wisdom!
Great 😊

Fortunately, this one was working great! 😉

This would be a great conversation piece on my coffee table when I have guests over.
Wow people actually fast forward past the merchandise plug. I didn't know that 🤔🤔🤔 The more you know!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Jon! I can't remember but can you do a review on the Megaman Micro player if you haven't already done one?
I haven't. I don't know much about MegaMan, so I may not be the best to review it.
@@GenXGrownUp That's totally okay if your not going to do it!
please make the laughing blackpool clown
Thanks for the video. I grew up down the New Jersey shore, I basically lived at the arcades on the boardwalk. This brings back great memories.
That's really cool. I can see how these fortune tellers machines would hit pretty close to home for you! 😁
If only he can give winning lottery numbers 🤣 NewWave has been hitting it out of the park lately
Yes, please!
Of course, pre-order, HATE waiting.
GenX'ers are well accustomed to waiting. Everything required waiting "four to six weeks for delivery!"

Thanks so much!

Nice! Any idea how much they'll sell the extra fortune rolls for? Waiting to be notified when it's in stock for those who didn't preorder.
I haven't seen, but I've gotta think in the $15-$20 range, maybe?
How can we hack this to print custom fortunes? Seems like making that little roll would be hard. Definitely ordering this!
oh great, now i can have a ghost in my house using this device to communicate with me :)
That would kind of be cool, actually. 👻
Great review! I can't believe I beat you to this one! Also .... great closeups! I should have done that! Great work as always!!
Thanks for watching! In my defense, I was in the hospital when it arrived, so my review was quite delayed as a result. 😁

Excellent Video. I like the 1/6th scale retro toys!🤘🏻👍🏻🇺🇲
Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Definitely will need more coins and fortune reels!!
i remember one as a kid that had a woman in it think it was a gypsy or fortune teller
Awesome! 😊

The little tokens look like lego piece 70501
They do. I think they're a bit thinner, though, so they'd slip out of a minifg's hands, unfortunately. 😁
Apparently Zoltar has a heavy Russian accent.
Great for those folks trying to complete their 1/6 scale Coney Island boardwalk. Or not.
This machine has took countless quarters from me lol
I've never seen one out in the wild. My one and only experience is the movie Big.

Is it possible to get new paper when the roll is all being used?
New Wave says they'll be selling replacement fortune rolls eventually.
It's not like the one from Big at all? :(
👌
Maybe you could scan the roll of fortunes and print a new strip.
I'm sure that's possible. Would need to match the paper weight & dimensions as well as spaced perforations to match what the motor expects to spit out on each cycle.
are the fortunes perforated or do you tear them off on a blade
Both. They are perforated and there's also a small serrated edge to help them tear.
@@GenXGrownUp - I figured if they weren't perforated, you could scan and print new fortunes

OK.
That story never gets old. Keep up the good work. Tell him hi from Alaska. I'm not from Alaska. Is he?

technically, any machine in an arcade is an 'arcade machine'
