Hi very good review and very informative. There is a safety issue I would like to point out for your consideration. I know you indicated the exhaust is pointing outward. I am involved with Emergency Management, and carbon monoxide is a real problem. We have people running generators here in NH where I live and they do something similar (at the edge of their garage under the house, pointing out), or even on a deck outside. The problem is the wind direction can (a) change and (b) blow the carbon monoxide back at the dwelling. Please be aware that carbon monoxide is a POISON, so having a source of fresh air is not sufficient to keep you safe. To the best of my knowledge it builds up in your blood stream. I know you may have done this a number of times successfully, but we see poisonings with almost every major power outage. Also to the best of my knowledge the recommendation is that the generator should be at least 10 feet away from the structure and "down wind". Please stay safe. /Jim
Point taken, about the only time I run this generator is when I am welding. With that in mind, I weld outside my conex box because most the things I'm welding are bigger and wouldn't fit in the conex anyway and I like not having to worry about starting a fire in the conex box. Thank you for adding this to my comment section though, this video gets a lot of views and some people might not think about wind direction and keeping the exhaust out of where they are working. :)
Not only carbon monoxide is the hazard of using portable generators. Electric shocks, electrocution, and burns are one of the hazards of using generators too. Even fire hazards. I have things to explain to everyone about the generator hazards. Here are the generator safety tips: - Never ever back feed your generator - Please do not overload your generator - Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. The generator can be hot during an operation. The generator can be hot enough to cause burns. - Please keep your children especially your little ones away from the portable generator at all times so they won’t get hurt. Always keep an eye on your little ones - Do not run your generator in the porch, deck, balcony, garage, or indoors. Always use your generator outdoors but 15-20 feet away from your house. Never use your generator indoors. - install a carbon monoxide detector - Never ever refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it. - Do not wear loose clothes when operating the generator - Never touch the generator with wet hands. Never run your generator in wet conditions so you won’t get electrocuted. - Please use the right cord for your generator. The cord should not be worn out. Hope this helps. Remember it’s better to be safe than sorry
Been using mine for years to push our camper out here in PG and Off Northern California... and this thing has never let us down. pushes a 30 amp camper with ac and everything running inside. no problems!
Great review. I appreciate your efforts. As an electrical engineer, I would like to offer you some of the math involved to calculate your load. 1 horsepower = 744 watts Electrical motor starting surge is 30 % So starting a 1 HP capacitor start motor will require 766.32 watts. Older motors may need a lot more. Your wire has Inherent Resistance and that number varies quite a bit depending on conductor type size and the length of the run. Longer runs need heavier conductors. As a rule of thumb, use at least 14ga conductors for runs of 50' or less. Use 10ga for up to 100'. Use 8ga for runs more than 100 feet. This will minimize you wattage loss due to a small conductor. Note: As the wire's temperature increases, so, the resistance increases and your power (wattage) drops. If your wire feels warm, get a bigger gauge wire.
I have one of these to power my window AC and keep my Solar Generators charged during night time during the fall and winter months… great performance so far
I had to dig this generator out of the corner of my shop about a month ago for a power outage in our area. I didn't know if it would fire up or not but it fired on the 4th pull. still works great. Thanks for watching. :)
I bought this exact generator also. I live at higher altitude and so I changed out the jet using the included high altitude kit. It was relatively simple. After changing the jet, I started it for the first time. It started first pull and has started first pull every time. I also thought it would come with the wheels. I plan to buy the wheel kit for it but I have not had any problems moving it around.
I still haven't had a problem starting mine. First pull starting all the time. I was going to get the wheels for mine but I never seem to move it so I don't think i will get them. :)
I have had this generator for 5 years. Bought it during a summer power outage and woked fine. I have not used it since and today I decided it was about time to get it running and get non a schedule to keep it maintained. There is a possible power outage shortly. I decided t look on line for
Thank you. The extension cords don't always get coiled correctly but they are easier to get out when they are coiled correctly. Thanks for watching. :)
Deff good generators. I purchased the 3500/4375 generator just before hurricane Michael. I was cautious being it's harbor freight. Great generator for the money. I been draining the tank after use, but this last time I just added stabil to a full tank. Hopefully no issues next time I need to run it.
I leave the fuel in the tank all the time but I start it up at least twice a week so I have power out at my container box shop. Seems to be pretty good on fuel too. :)
bud hart what did you power with your generator for the hurricane? I need to power a refrigerator, window ac unit, tv, and microwave. Would yours power all that?

I have a 6500 predator generator and it worked fine for a few times. I was using it one day running a 70 inch 4 k tv the generator made a funny sound and stopped working. Haven't been able to get it started since. Got oil and gas vut still won't start. I advised against buying one. Not even 3 months old and don't work Charles Johnson. Toledo Ohio
Have you figured out what went wrong with your generator yet? I haven't had any problems with my generator yet so I'm wondering what I should be looking out for. Thanks for watching. :)
I have had the 8kw gen from harbor freight for about 5 years now, I average about 25 days a winter with no power. Have never had an issue with it. Also when sizing a gen, do not Exceed 70% of the running watts. When you go over that you’ll kill the voltage regulator in the generator head. I only use about 3K watts on mine, I never really push it. I’m pretty sure that’s why I have never had an issue with this Chinese generator
First off, thank you for not being annoying in your review. You come across as knowledgeable and calm. I am looking at this generator to buy, my store only has the EPA 3 version and not CARB. I don't know if it matters. Do u know which one yours is? 2nd, how well did, or has this generator held up? Again, thanks for the video.
You're welcome for the review. I do not know for sure if my generator is a CARB or EPA 3. I think goes by the state you live in. The generator has held up great. I don't need it as much as I used to now that I have my shop built but it starts up fine when I need it. :)
I’ve got one. I opted not to get the warranty. Because I am cheap... after running the generator on my side jobs, construction, there’s metal shavings in the oil. The engine still runs FLAWLESSLY but for the 140$ I d get it. And if anything after. A year and a half bring it in saying it doesn’t work and they will give you a new one
Never had any metal shavings in the oil but mine still runs great. Any time I need to weld something I start it up and plug the welder into it and go. :)
Good review, but fire it up for 15 seconds so we could get some sort of read on the noise level. I know it’s not gonna be perfect coming through a video, it still would’ve been useful.
I was gonna go at that wattage but 150 or... more I think...for a 9000, would very easily run my small 2 60amp bedroom slab till I move, has a small 240 15amp ac in the wall and I also have an old blackmax 50 gal 240 air compressor, single stage for auto repairs, I've seen videos of these running houses. My old buddy that passed was an electrician told me how sinewaves work, there longer than 120 and draw less on damand than 120, if you can wire your water pump 240 it should work, a 2 stage air compressor would take more for sure I think

I still have to get the wheel kit but may mount it on a small furniture dolly I bought there earlier. Do you happen to know the gas tank capacity by chance? Thanks for your time. Kevin West
I don't know the exact tank capacity but I think its close to 5 gallons maybe. I used to know it but I haven't had to fill it for a while. I do know that it sat for a year and when I went to use it the other day it only took 3 pulls to start it. :)
Came across this vid on harbor freight site, Not sure on what wattage i need but Will this be enough power to run a Small Ac and Refrigerator, and other small stuff ? Just want something in case power goes out during hurricane
You would need to look at the amperage on the AC unit and the refrigerator to make sure. As long as the amperage is less than 20 you should be fine to run the AC off one plug and the refrigerator off the other plug. :)
If you want I can edit up a sound clip for you. Did you want it to sound quiet or loud, cause without a decibel meter a sound clip means nothing. Thanks for watching. :)

I use this generator to run my Millermatic 110 welder whenever I need to weld something. I'm not sure what you mean by not hurting cordless tool batteries though. :)
@@KoalityofLife I found another video of it running under load and got my answer. It actually doesn't sound bad considering it is a generator. For the price.
@Koality of Life Homestead I never had a generator before and I just started a Carwash guys, would this work on a Sun Joe SPX3000-XT XTREAM Electric Pressure Washer it delivers up to 2,200 PSI max and it’s a 13 amp motor
Hi, good vid! I need to run my well pump intermittently with a generator during power outages and my electrician told me to get one with a 30 amp twistlock. And I thought this 6500 had that, so I was surprised and chagrined when you said it wouldn't run your well. Sounds like your well is deep and powerful. Any updates on using this for the well, or details as to why you can't? Thanks!
I have the same generator I have barely used it very often I guess that's okay I want to use it for a welder at 2:20 line have you ever experienced that with this welder
I use this generator with my welder but my welder is a 110 welder not a 220 so I don't know how well it will do. Check the amperage of the welder and make sure the generator can work with it. :)
How has this thing aged? I'm in the market for one and a Honda is more than I want to spend. I've had terrible look with other Chinese brands and Briggs and Stratton/Generac aren't much better.
I haven't used it constantly but whenever I need it it fires right up and works great. I use it whenever I need to weld something or power something in the storage container that its in. Probably ran through about a dozen tanks of gas so far. Hope this helps. :)
Could you please tell me how many gallons the fuel tank holds? Also, are you still satisfied with this generator after using for a longer time? Thanks! (Great review!)
Interesting that I think I'm seeing in your video is 420cc?? Dosen't show very long or clearly. Marked on the starter rope cover, In your video. And harbor freight is using your video and with the same watts rating there now advertising it as a 301cc engine.
@@KoalityofLife its possible they didn't have the 301cc engine a few years ago. Its a relatively new item. That way they have a engine in the 9hp class not just 6.5 and 13hp and the V twin
Need a generator that can run my house furnace. Power goes out here in the winter time quite often. Would one of those do the job? Just wondering, thanks for the video....helps me out.
I don't know if this generator would run your furnace. Need to see how many watts your furnace needs to run and match a generator up to that. Hope this helps. :)
hey man i know its been 3 years since you posted this, how is welding off of the generator? i got a 120v lincoln i plan on welding off a generator and would like to know your opinion as i cant see to find a defined answer
Hi, welding off a generator is basically the same as welding off an outlet as long as the generator has enough amperage for the welder. Being a 110 welder, it should run off any generator I would think. I've never had a problem. :)
@@urpimp303 from what i read from say Everlast welders, they recommend a 9k running 10k surge watt generator. so you would be able to get by on the 9k watt surge generator from HF but it wouldn't be ideal. depending on amp's you are trying to run off it
this is not a inverter generator, I would not run sensitive electronic stuff off of it. To many spikes on output of this. But for non electronic stuff, it's fine. Inverter generators cost a bit more....you get what you pay for.
@@kenw9681 I always run premium gas through my small engines but that doesn't mean they have to be run on premium gas. As far as oil I use what the parts store says to use so I don't remember right now what it was Sorry :)
I will be doing another review in a week or so, one more about how it has held up over more time and use but it's a good generator as far as I can tell. Starts on the first or second pull every time, even in the middle of winter and freezing weather. :)
I could have but anybody can edit sound on a video to either be louder or quieter than what it is. There is no real way to show the noise level of what you are reviewing unless you have a decibel meter. I don't have a decibel meter. I can tell you that you can work around it while it is running but if you are talking to someone right next to the machine you will have to raise your voice so they can hear you. Get about 15 feet away from it and you can talk normal. Hope this helps. :)
@filolll - I pulled the trigger & bought mine after checking numerous reviews yesterday. FYI - Many HF locations were already sold out when I went yesterday. You can still purchase tax free in FL online. Shipping & wheel kit included I believe I paid $624 total. Not bad considering the same wheel kit I paid $30 for online was about $70 in-store.

@Koality of Life Homestead I never had a generator before and I just started a Carwash guys, would this work on a Sun Joe SPX3000-XT XTREAM Electric Pressure Washer it delivers up to 2,200 PSI max and it’s a 13 amp motor
This generator has 20 amp circuits so you should be able to run a 13 amp motor without a problem. :)
@@KoalityofLife thank you so much fine sire
Great review sir, great info just got mine today and love it.
Very nice. Thanks for watching. :)
Thanks!
My well is 450 feet deep and takes a 30 amp circuit, this generator is only a 23 amp 220 twist lock circuit. :)
Thank God I saw this man-i was gonna buy this to run my 420' well and now I know it won't! Thank u for saving me!
@@benrent6625 You're welcome. :)
I have been using mine with a 220 welder with no problems.
Anyone know if I connect The predator 9000 to my house (legally), do I have to ground the generator or is the frame ground good enough? Thanks.
I have no idea on that one but maybe someone will chime in with the answer. Thanks for watching :)
the generator will be grounded because the panel is grounded. if you do it properly.
Best to ground it, buy a ground rod ground frame. The performance will be more efficient.
I still love the generator, it still works great. I think the fuel tank holds around 5 gallons. :)
@@KoalityofLife Thank you!
6.6 gallon run time 8 hours at 50 percent load
@@charlesjohnson3098 Thank you
Interesting that I think I'm seeing in your video is 420cc?? Dosen't show very long or clearly. Marked on the starter rope cover, In your video.
And harbor freight is using your video and with the same watts rating there now advertising it as a 301cc engine.
Its also listed as 173ish lbs
Yes, mine is a 420cc engine. Interesting that they have put a smaller engine in the new models. Maybe they have made their engines better? No idea. :)
@@KoalityofLife its possible they didn't have the 301cc engine a few years ago. Its a relatively new item.
That way they have a engine in the 9hp class not just 6.5 and 13hp and the V twin
That muffler is actually a catalytic converter and they suck.
Good to know. Thanks for watching. :)
@@KoalityofLife makes sense.. thanks again. Much respect
@@Lightning7474. You're very welcome. :)
lightning 7474 is your furnace natural gas or propane? If it's all electric, I would say no.
@@woohunter1 natural gas.
hey man i know its been 3 years since you posted this, how is welding off of the generator? i got a 120v lincoln i plan on welding off a generator and would like to know your opinion as i cant see to find a defined answer
Hi, welding off a generator is basically the same as welding off an outlet as long as the generator has enough amperage for the welder. Being a 110 welder, it should run off any generator I would think. I've never had a problem. :)
How does that handle a 220v welder with the 5500 watts?
@@urpimp303 from what i read from say Everlast welders, they recommend a 9k running 10k surge watt generator. so you would be able to get by on the 9k watt surge generator from HF but it wouldn't be ideal. depending on amp's you are trying to run off it
@@urpimp303 The welder I am using is a 110V welder, not a 220V. :)
What kind of gasoline does take and how much gas does it take
I run premium in all my small engines but you can run regular if you want to. I think it has a 4 gallon tank. :)
@@KoalityofLife thanks so much for the replying back 😊
@@jugosam8237 No problem :)
Does it run the welder in the back. Just got a lincoln 140
I only run my 110 welder on this generator. But it runs that welder just fine. :)
Mine runs a 220v wire feed welder. I made an umbilical to convert from the plug on the welder to the plug on the generator. Works just fine.
@@atchjs Very nice. :)
this is not a inverter generator, I would not run sensitive electronic stuff off of it. To many spikes on output of this. But for non electronic stuff, it's fine. Inverter generators cost a bit more....you get what you pay for.
Thanks for watching. :)
What kind of fuel does it use, and what kind of oil does it use?
This is a gas generator, as far as oil, just a standard small engine oil. :)
@@KoalityofLife What kind of gas and oil do you use? I want to buy one of these 6500 watt Predator generators, within the next month or two.
@@kenw9681 I always run premium gas through my small engines but that doesn't mean they have to be run on premium gas. As far as oil I use what the parts store says to use so I don't remember right now what it was Sorry :)
@@kenw9681 quaker state, pennzoil, valvoline/ 10 w 30, non synthetic will be fine.
How many amps can that handle ?
The 120V circuits are 20 amp max, the 120/240V twist lock circuit is a 23V max. :)
@@KoalityofLife I appreciate you thank you 🙏

Not really a review. How has it performed?
I will be doing another review in a week or so, one more about how it has held up over more time and use but it's a good generator as far as I can tell. Starts on the first or second pull every time, even in the middle of winter and freezing weather. :)
Wish you would have started the generator so we could hear how loud it would be.
@@KoalityofLife , just FYI, they do have decibel readings apps for smart phones but I do appreciate your feedback on the noise level, it helps.
its also a hemi!!!!!!
8 gallon capacity for 6500 to 5500

$500 @ HF this weekend. You recommend?
I like mine, can't remember how much I paid for it but haven't had any problems with it. A few pulls of the cord and it fires right up.
Opps - well for anyone looking now, my comment still applies 😅
