    • @brajeshsingh2391
      @brajeshsingh2391 4 года назад +10

      Well he never quite had the pace to be a strike bowler so him focusing on all round skills was not a bad idea but somehow after the promise shown early on he could never maintain the level of the game. And once he returned after injury he was never quite the bowler. His speed had slowed , even his bowling action had changed. What really suprises me was how he is referring to Greg Chappell controversy. I thought Chappell's major bone was with Dada.

    • @brajeshsingh2391
      @brajeshsingh2391 4 года назад +10

      just to add about whole comparison with Kapil. Kapil received a lot of help from BCCI in the last few years of his career. I would not comment on his game but BCCI really gave Kapil ample opportunities to ensure he broke Hadlee's record. Part of credit also went to Azhar who as captain gave Kapil enough bowling under him even when Kapil was not very effective. So comparisons are unfair.

    Greg Chappel believed on Pathan, because Irfan had all the potential to be a bowler who could bat like the top batsman. Greg promoted him and believed he could be the next Kapil Dev!
    But Greg's controversy with Ganguly had a wide effect on the team- from there everything went down hill!
    Irfan Pathan will and should always be remembered in Indian Cricket- because his achievements are second to none!

    He was man of the match in his last ODI (2012) & T20 and Dhoni threw him out why?
    In an interview Irfan said he tried hard to get back into team till 2016, he was highest wicket taker and 3rd highest run scorer in a domestic series in 2016.
    Even after doing so well in domestic matches he was out, finally he lost hope, waited 2-3 years and now announced retirement.
    I am not a Dhoni hater but the players who were as good as dhoni got out of team just after 1-2 bad series and retired way earlier than dhoni and that man at 39 is still finding his way back to the team. That's unjust.

    Have great memories of Irfan coming in to ball and generating swing and pace. Sad to see him stop playing early in his career. If he had managed his injuries better who knows what would have happened. He had the potential to be a Wasim or Kapil. Good Luck Irfan and thanks for all the great games and memories!

    He was a fearless batsman though not technically sound and batted really well even against the mighty Aussies in their soil.After his stint as a bowler who could bat he could have concentrated on batting ( Steve Smith and Camerone White has successfully done that) and bowl occasionally so that vulnerability towards injury could have been reduced. He would have been better than many of India's middle order batsmen we have seen in the 2019 world cup

    But changing his batting position was a poor decision. Greg wanted to make him a batting all rounder but he was naturally a bowler who could bat. His pace too reduced from early 140 to 115 or 120kmph. That led to his downfall and less selection.
