I just harvested a Malawi pumpkin at 15kg. I saved 563 seeds from that pumpkin. Just think of this fact: it grew from ONE seed and it spawned 563 seeds. I sowed 10 foot long beans; all ten sprouted. We ate beans and I harvested 850+ seeds from those ten stalks. My one friend counted his corn seeds grown in his back yard and it yielded about 60'000 seeds. That is nature in your back yard! Go for it! Thank you for this video and for you working tirelessly to promote even just one plant on your kitchen window sill. I am living in Sandton, South Africa.
I started saving seeds from my school days, because we had a chapter in our hindi textbook, where a granny keeps throwing seeds from the train window, when asked what was she trying to do... she says, I have sowed the flower seeds everywhere. Now when I return after few months, these track sides will be full of beautiful flowers and bees... That was the most beautiful lesson I ever learnt. So happy to see this video... :D
Gauri Panicker amazing idea!
Fantastic!
What a memory we have....
Wow!!! That is such a Novel Idea to beautify the world around us. Salute to your Granny.
Impressive!
Seeds are more important than gold, thank you ❤
I've been saving & breeding my own seeds for 35 years, this is an inspiration to all, what a wonderful garden!
junglie looking for genuine seeds of every kind. Do you have seeds to share?
I am also looking for someone to swap seeds with
Can seeds be sent to UK London.
RUclips should have the two thumbs like option! Amazing! I bet the people that thumbed down this amazing video are Monsanto employees!!!
Gary Rodriguez She's an ex- nuclear physicist maybe that's why she got a thumbs down.
@Mara A
True science is shown in demonstration by Mother Nature herself. What more can "so called science lovers" try to prove and to whom??? To that Mother Nature who has evolved from even before we all wandered on this earth... Funny how stupid we all can be thinking we are better than nature...😂
I thought the same exact thing!🌱🌿🌱🌿❤️
@@ashwinihonnatti3180 All of the fruits and vegetables in this video are made by humans in artificial selection.
One thumb up for her and the other one is for the red dot 😂😂😂
I love your videos , You have confirmed to me that I have to go back to doing things the way my Dad and Grandparents taught me . This will be my first year saving seeds and is my first year bee keeping . Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you !
Apart from the sinister aspects of this, when you save your own seed, you know it is fresh (so will germinate much more reliably) and is also adapted to your little microclimate. Plus it's very satisfying and fun to do.
This made my day, never seen a lufa and I did not know about carrot flowers. I have been saving seeds from the fruit we buy and started composting. We don't have a back yard or anything but my mom has a few flowers and other plants in pots. I take some of the veggies and seeds to the nearby park ☺️
Thank-you. What a great introduction to saving seeds.
This year I decided to grow more food in our garden. More than we need so we could share it with family, friends and those in need. Of course I was thinking of save seeds for next year but after watching your video my plan got a different touch to it. I am decided to share my seeds and even found a place in our town for changing seeds. Isn’t it amazing?
Thank you for inspiration.
Wonderful video! Wonderful lesson. I believe this world, and all the precious plants were a gift to us from the first garden and should be respected, cared for and preserved with the same love by which they were created. We must do our part as caretakers, not as simply takers. Bless you for teaching!
Thank you, I'm starting my small garden, I'm sure many do that during this pandemic lockdown. Indeed this is the best way the world can go back to true health
You are awesome ma'am. I salute you for your precious work you do to save the mother nature. I wish I could join you. Will support you forever ma'am.
I love this video, thank you. I live in Australia where our climate is like California. I will begin to grow food and save seed this year 2020.
Thank you! I love this video and will now make harvesting my own seeds a part of me life rituals. What a fantastic feeling I got from watching this!
Just realised I have all the knowledge I need to grow a garden and save seeds from my memories as a child watching my mother working in the garden growing food for the family..and those memories are lovely 😍
The storage part of this video is so perfect. It's the one thing I was never sure about. Great tips about how to do a drying rack and about adding herbs to the jars. Great for my extra basil at the end of season!
Such a privilege indeed to have Dr. Shiva at your Growing Home and give the introductory presentation on this video!
Thank you for your instruction on saving seeds. I'm a Seed Saver now! And I'll start sharing seeds with family & friends!
Would you be open to swapping seeds?
Thanks for your Tips I will work on it...I am a farmer in africa and I will try to practise it.. Hope together we can change the world
I love you and all you do, Dr. Shiva. You’re one of my two heroes, the other being Dr. Nikola Tesla. I’ve been saving seeds thanks to you since 2000 so 21 years now.
Gaia in human form...the seed is the continuum of life so are her ideas, thoughts sown as blessed seeds. I do plant everything but I had never saved seeds before as I believe life to be self replenishing. We will always find seeds everywhere [even Nature saves seed] and Vandana is simply beautiful.
You are such an inspiration to us all. Your information is so needed today. This year I am saving heirloom seeds from three plants in my garden for the first time. Next year I will save some more of my main crops until I no longer have to buy my seeds. I will share those seeds. So very exciting.
First, I'm grateful that this video came to me via recommendation on RUclips. Second, it really is great to learn something new. Not only did I not know that a luffa was a gourd, but also that it was edible! 🤯 Too bad they dont teach this to us in school
You're a scientist when you start saving seeds! - Vandana Shiva
No, you're an indepedent thinker.
You are the real world scientist Dr. Verdana Shiva, you're our modern day hero. You're my inspiration. I will now change my life and live in the farthest farm from the City and develop a sustainable farm.
THANK YOU FOR THIS, YOU ARE INSPIRING!!!!!! I ve started saving seeds because the world is now unstable

Great video ! I am an avid gardener and have been saving seeds for along time ! I’ve learned a lot from you !
this is a truly AWESOME lesson. Thank you so much. You have inspired me to begin thinking about saving seeds. I did always not quite trust the seeds you get in the store. :( . Will you make more seed saving videos? Like how to save seeds from Kale, and other leafy greens, and broccoli, and beets, and yams?

and Great Gratitude to The CREATOR GOD for Raising her up as a Saviour vs mons(ter)anto.
GOD Bless you for sharing this info!
She definitely doesn’t believe in Jesus
Fabulous and so important. I also heard that seeds record in their DNA the type of environment you live in. This can really reap rewards! Pardon the pun!
Thank you for the video. I want to change by village farmers from usingl govt. hybrid seeds to renewable or reproducible seeds. I am from Andhra Pradesh, south India.
I have similar plans too and I'm from the same place where u r from. All the best.
Amazing knowlege to share. Thank goodness I live in a tropical country but i feel terrible not using this to my advantage more. you are very kind to pass on this knowlege freely to other people, as you are actually passing on life to us. thank you very much.

Regenerative Gardening with Farmer Rishi
You make ALL the sense! Thank you!
My country started with seeds... agriculture, the kibbutz. We grew food in the desert and we created the water drip system, developed ways to save and clean toxic water which is now helping millions in distress, people going through natural disasters around the world.
It all started with a seed!
Do check RUclips if you are not familiar with Israeli Water Technology and our agriculture as well.
Thank you so much for your generosity to share with all of us this wisdom for saving seeds. I have ONE QUESTION. Where is it possible to get the first seeds to start? I have been keeping seeds from the fruit I have bought in normal stores. There are from from organic companies in USA, but I'm not sure if it is a good idea to use them. I know that sometimes the organic products from companies are not totally organic, that's why I have not planted these seeds yet. Thank you in advance!
Very informative, thank you! Now I know to look for a color change with fruits and vegetables and when harvesting seeds from flowers, wait for the bloom to finish blooming and start to wilt and dry, the sign that seeds are mature. I am still a bit confused about cross-pollination and how do I ensure that I'm going to get the same variety next year?
This is so useful....... I just got my hands on some wild shikakai and m gonna do some seed saving.
Ive been learning how to save seed. I think I messed up with storage but this year I forgot to harvest my lettuce so Ill get the seeds soon. I saved my sorrel seeds
Truly inspiring! Thank You x
This is one of the most intelligent woman!
Good day! such a great video and so many good tips! Saludos desde Costa Rica :)
Very truthful!!! Namaste!
Thank you for sharing. Keep up the good work. Take care and keep safe.
Thank you so much for thus vidéo. Much Love From South of France ☀️
I’d suggest people watch Myles Power, he made a video about Vandana Shiva and how her anti gmo activism has led to famine.
Nothing wrong with avoiding GMOs on an individual level, but at a systemic level (laws banning them for instance) has pretty rough consequences.
I love this lady!
Just bought my seeds, soil, and making my boxes.
Very interesting information. I learned from this video how to harvest seeds from my plants. I always felt that saving my seeds in small plastic bags were best, the reason being if there was an emergency and I had to grab them in a hurry and carry them for a long distant it would be easyer ..Thank you!
I just love this video. I have been working on my indoor garden during the long harsh winter.
Much appreciated.
ohhh... luffa (a very mature/dried type of zookini!). thank u for xmas gift idea sir! thank you rishi
LOOFAH not used for body scrub but can be used as cleaning sponge for dishes.I don't use the colored , brite sponges.
Gods bless you always you are amazing! Thanks! For that beautiful message and lesson 🤴🏻
Brilliant job 👍👍 save the nature 🙏🙏
Awesome. Love this video. What a wonderful source of inspiration and hope for humanity. God Bless Sarvodaya Institute.
Thank you for sharing this! I am so inspired to save seeds. I live in an apartment with a balcony in direct sunlight. I also have no idea where to start or how to start growing my own food and the right times and what soil. Please can you advise? Also should we make sure we are saving seeds from organic produce?
This video was great! I really want to get started with growing my own food.
The definition of a woman😊💞
Seeding our minds with the idea of seed banks that can spread like seeds in the wind.
Wonderful info. Keep up the good work.
Absolutely wonderful. Love growing my own fruit and veg. It really connects you tho Mother Earth ❤️🏴🙏😀👍
Let us go back to basic and save money. love this Lady Wisdom
Dr. Vandana Shiva feels so warm. feels like she is my mom
Wow thank you so much for this!
I thought it was Dr. Vandana Shiva's video but very useful with lots of new learning. Will come back to see more. Thank you.
AMAZING!!! THANK YOU!!!
You’re pretty safe saving seeds from open pollinated peppers, tomatoes, beans, herbs… Pumpkins, cucumbers, squash and the like do easily cross pollinate with wild gourds and each other. You may need to hand pollinate those to make sure you get some good seeds that don’t give you something bitter and awful. Don’t be deterred though, it’s a simple extra step.
This was great! Thank you.
Thank you so much. very useful video. i always loved Vandana Shiva, she is clever, genius and inspirational. you are the proof of her inspiration.
how do you feel about keeping the seeds stored in their shells? So, keeping the dry pods, dry chillies or dry flowers stored in glass containers.
Am good at saving seeds wherever I go.
Great information! Thank you!
Incredible.
I have a question, say you bought a packet of seeds then planted them and then saved the seeds it made. What if you find out that those original seeds you planted were GMO then would your new seeds be contaminated?
Just wondering how I can start if the seeds around me have been modified (idk how to tell if they have or not yet)
thanks
Vandana Shiva needs to crowned a Saint for allegiance to the People not the corporations
Thank you for the inspirations.
Very interesting video, thanks for sharing.
