@@larrygarman5721 Panamá is a friend and ally of USA in Latin America. Many expats live here and US always help Panamá against narcotrafic and security cooperation.
The Nicaragua Lake has the largest freshwater reserve for Central America. Image a oil ship spilled in the lake. 😰

I didn't knew Shell build the canal expansion. I always thought it was from Panama's people. Too good to be truth.
No, Shell did not build the canal expansion. The building proposal was submitted for approval by the Panamanian Parliament by the Panama Canal Authority and voted on by the Panamanian people in the October 2005 referendum. The government then hired a Spanish construction company to direct the operation.

Wow, before watching this video, I didn't realize how close the new locks are to Miraflores. It's absolutely amazing to watch the time lapse. I was their in 1994 when the navy barracks community on the west bank was just being torn down. I'm curious if Ft Kobbe, Noriega Causeway, the US Army PLDC facility, and surrounding areas have been removed to make way for construction.

Obviously you haven't seen some of the new cargo ships being built by Maersk that can hold over 18,340 TEU. They new ones wouldn't fit through this canal.
Cost
I think they already went through the process of widening it. Something tells me this project was to relieve some of the smaller traffic from the canals.

Nicaragua. They managed to deal with the government but failed to follow up when the company that built the extended Panama Canal. Not to mention that the company went bankrupt and never heard from again.
Would have been much better to show via a single location camera and not jump all over the place, too hard to follow.
And at the end they forgot to dredge the lake. So much waste!

This was extremely Important for the US to do as China was in talks to build an expanded canal through Nicoraugua at 300km long but wide enough for superwide cargo ships. If China built that canal they ask to control it for 100 years effectively making them in control of the most important shipping canal on earth.
