The Quest for Lorp
Hey tea friends! I am back in Beijing after three plus years away since the borders shut down. I’m going to be vlogging my tea experiences here in China for you all, including (hopefully) going to the tea mountains in Yunnan!
This first episode is a chance to see a bit of what my old tea collection was like and see a bit of Beijing. I am very happy to report that the search for my old pets, including Lorp, was a success.

I came for Lorp and got my mind blown by a huge 30yo cake. ❤
Were you just completely swept off your feet by the Xi of that 30yo cake? That’s how I fell in love with puerh and discovered your channel. I was sitting in silence for 12 weeks in a Zen monastery and sampled some really special sheng puerh donated to the temple by a wealthy patron. I think I was blessed out for about two weeks😂
I’ve never been able to reproduce that experience, but I’ve had a hell of a lot of good tea trying!💙
A lot of teas r over 30. I got some teas of my parents’ age. That’s how uk it’s good tea. 👍
Love the long form! So excited to travel along vicariously in real time! This type of content is probably more labor intensive than the reels, so thank you for going that extra mile for your tea friends!
Much more labor intensive and almost nobody sees it 😂 but I think it’s a great way to share the journey so I am hoping people enjoy!
The walking part i've thought about so many times.......
I lived in the outskirts of Shanghai for just one year for work, and got back to the US for grad school just months before the pandemic shut everything down and didnt let me go back.
My wife and I talk about missing our favorite breakfast stand and our stirfry/hotpot place all the time
The food is so good here! And as much as I love beijing, Shanghai food is really really good too 🎉

There's some kind of natural elegance in using the nice fancy set and letting the leaves spill, or the tea flow over in some moments.
I love the long form tea content! I hope you will take us on a tour of the Beijing tea market in upcoming videos, or maybe have Yunqing show some of the most interesting and unique teas from his shop
I am learning so much from you....not just about tea, but so many other stuff...life in China.

That's so awesome that you were able to get your stuff back, especially the tea pets and tea. I really appreciate how "steeped" (pun intended) you are in the Chinese tea culture by having lived there. I love that authenticity.

A good cup of tea makes the world go 'round! mate i think you should raise the EU prices on your shop, everything seems quite cheap. it might be scaring off customers. remember people like to pay more. youve put yourself in a nieche world - which i admire. But you have two ways you can go, really cheap to try to create a market like wallmart cheap.. or expensive to create interest, remember there is no shortage of money in this world. and fine tea should be acknowledged like fine watches. wish you the best man! also this video was really cool! awesome to see your hidden away old collection and to hear about your adventures!

Loved the longer form vlod! There's honestly very little youtube content that I personally enjoy, but this is absolutely one of them. It's really nice to see what you share of finding your tea stuff again and is just so human, especially going back to a place after years (plural!) of not being able to get back and see what remains. Not to mention-this is really well edited and cut!! I'm really looking forward to more of this series!

That is so funny. The same thing happened with me, thinking I would be staying home for 3 weeks then bam. And all my possessions were (and still are) in mexico!

Wow, I love this. I only recently discovered your channel and am impressed with your expertise when it comes to tea, your proficiency in Mandarin, and interesting life journey (from what little I've seen so far). The interaction at the shaobing place was charming.

I'm addicted to your channel now. I used to be an avid coffee drinker, and I can no longer have any caffeine. I have been looking at possibly making my own herbal teas that don't have any allergens in them. ( I've a digestive autoimmune, im gonna live,but i can only have very certain foods and drinks...so...i might just make my own). The turtle 🐢 tea pet is so cute !! ( Almost as cute as you!)

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Ive always been a sucker for loose leaf. But if you think being in america is bad in los angeles, tiny town west texas 45 minutes from a small city of 200k put a whole new levelnlf tea wasteland. Ill live vicariously through you on your tea jouney.

This reminds me..Back in 2016 I bought about 900g of random sheng and shou puerh cakes. Most of it was in original packaging from the factories but there were no whole cakes in the lot. I believe I shunted it all in a black sport bag, put everything in Ziploc bags. Do you think that tea would still be drinkable? Most of it was I believe from 2013 or earlier. At the time I was in college and had no idea what I'd just spent $80 on.. now I wonder.

I'm so happy for you! It's not quite the same, but I had to move across the US and leave many of my possessions in storage due to covid. I'm so glad you're using a longer format for this trip! I think it will catch on if you keep up with it. 😊

Jesse I lived in the Philippines for 6 months I got the last flight back to America and seeing this culture here took me back to the Philippines with the motorbikes and everything thank you!
I’ve been to manila a few times and yes the motorbikes are everywhere! Though beijing doesn’t have those beautiful artistic mini-bus cars the the Philippines has
What a stunning location for tea you have with that courtyard. Next time Dad complains about all my tea stuff I'm showing him this video lol. This was super interesting and I really liked what you said about the time being now because there might not be a later. I have a mushroom-shaped tuo cha that I haven't opened because the shop I got it from is no longer open. It was a free sample of that tea which introduced me to puer tea and I've been scared to drink it and try to break up such a compressed cake of tea.
Great video, Jesse. You have really inspired me to always keep moving, no matter what happens in life or how long something might seem to take, always keep moving forward. I'm looking forward to ordering a set of starting tea equipment and getting into the hobby. It's kind of overwhelming with how many options there are. :) #TeamLorp

Long vids are great. Please more 😊 also the tea looks delicious. A question: do you drink tea in the evenings and is this healthy with coffein and all? I drink a few cups of green or oolong in the evenings because I like it and it's relaxing. but everyone keeps saying I shouldn't drink tea in the evenings.
Yeah everyone’s body is different but I don’t usually drink tea after 5pm. If I do it’s only cooked Pu’er, that isn’t so intense especially if it’s aged
I love the videos, but hear the store is a drop shipping operation. I'd really like to hear more if you can elaborate or explain, I'm curious and would like to hear from you

Bro please do a videos for beginners. Something for people who know nothing about Asian tea. Like dude i have no idea what a tea cake is, it’s history, why, and the reason for it? Aged? I’m American but been drinking tea my whole life. My grand father was from Wales so im very familiar with European tea culture but know nothing at all about Asian tea.

@Jesse's Teahouse If you do move back, will the Teahouse still exist over here? Also, gave you thought about incorporating teaching some basic Chinese phrases that you use often when drinking tea-or in general lol. I've been enjoying relearning Chinese from your videos.
