- In this video I go over the top 5 things I hate about my Toyota Tacoma 3rd gen or 2016-2022 model year.
I love Toyota Tacomas, 4runners, etc and don't intend for this to be a video trashing on the truck. I am a huge fan of them and will continue to drive them but I wanted to share some insight into some of the small issues that have bugged me over the years while owning the vehicle.

My biggest complaint about the Tacoma is the lack of access cab Off Roads. I get that the market in the US is heavily saturated by double cabs and that is what people preferably choose these days. But cmon, at least offer some to those that don't want double cabs. I want an access cab with the 6ft bed.
Mods affects gas mileage. You dig?
Everything you said, i agree. You forgot the uncomfortable seating position.
Ahhh that's a good call!
I have a 2016 TRD Off Road in Inferno color. It didn't come with Android Auto or Apple car play. And I had the premium JBL system I took it out and upgraded to the Stinger Heigh10 with the Tacoma installation kit. Purchased it through Tacoma Beast website. The truck needed to come from the factory with 4:88 gears which I installed this was the most expensive mode I've done yet. It was 2700 dollars with labor. But it changed the way the 6 speed automatic shifts. I also got the Valley Run tune another big improvement. But like you said you shouldn't have to go out of pocket to spend money to make a 40,000 dollar plus truck run right
Hey! Thanks for the input I think that's super valuable information to others!
Definitely agree that the clearance for lift and tires is big BS, but the rest is debatable I think.
Everybody loves to complain about the drum brakes but I don't really understand why. They're just brakes... The Taco is a pretty light truck. What does it matter as long as they work?
The fuel economy honestly is not bad for a truck, I'm getting like 18mpg combined usually and on long road trips I have seen as high as 23mpg.
The gear hunting is for sure an issue with the tune, which is all because of fleet fuel economy and emissions standards. Get an aftermarket tune and this will change completely. For what it's worth, the manual transmission also benefits from the tune dramatically for other reasons.
The entune system did in fact get swapped in 2020 and beyond and now supports AA and Carplay. If I put myself back in 2015-2016, I have to think back on what kind of phones we all had and what the market expected. I'm fairly sure that AA and Carplay was still pretty new back then and only the most tech savvy folks out there even had phones that supported that. Given the buyer profile of the Tacoma, I believe Toyota chose to wait for that tech to mature intentionally, but clearly the market began demanding that feature pretty fast.
The other notable updates in the 2020+ is the 10-way power adjustable seat that apparently helps with the comfort complaints many people have, also the LED headlights are some of the best available now.
the new 24's will have..
Hope that the 4 Gen Tacoma has better gas mileage
Agreed my man, hoping we see a diesel in one of them too!
@@kevinshinohara I bet US is afraid of importing diesel engines. If they do, it will kill lots of its competitors
Yep thats right put ton of crap on anything, a lift and big honking tires, voila shitty mpg!
have you modified the exhaust at all?
Ya, I did the magnaflow muffler!
Yo what kind of camper shell is that...
Sorry, dude, the manual still better than the automatic because transmission program issues with the automatic that’s why I have a manual I get 16 to 21 miles a gallon but it depends on how you drive it and how much modifications you have on it
Agree!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH DRUM BREAK? DRUM BREAK IS BETTER THAN DISC!!!
