Matt Foley the fact that it was never intended to have story is an excuse. It's a graduation project for their portfolio. So they get hired into a vfx crew. It's to show they can make good cgi. The story thing tho... in the real job market these people will most likely never create the stories they render. The purpose wasn't story because their purpose isn't story.
Electronic voices too harsh! Almost need sub-titles! Subtle movements inside the cock pit showing the pilot actually trying to control the vessel was brilliant! The magnetic lighting on the boots was also excellent. This sort of attention to how things work and showing subtle functions without having to explain it in the dialog are things that draw me to these types of movies! Great job! Best animation I have seen to date! I am now hungering for more!
One cannot deny the effect Bungie's Spartan Armor designs have influenced just about every power armor suit, EVA suit, or just scifi armor ever made since their first Halo installment.

Straczynski's cutting edge, well ahead of its time, Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, released in 1987, was largely centered around power armor suits, and featured some very advanced power suits that I think served as the basis for most of the power suits today, including the classic Master Chief Suit. In between 1987 and 2001 there have been several other movies and shows that have in part advanced the tradition of sci-fi power armor, including Space: Above and Beyond (1995), Starship Troopers (1997), Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles (1999), which had suits that those in Halo surprisingly resemble quite markedly. It wasn't till 2001 that Halo was released, and while no doubt it's been tremendously influential on power suits since then, it's difficult to say just what each individual power suit design was influenced by.
After thinking about it more, I want to add that when Halo originally came out I felt it was largely influenced by the 1998 hit game, Tribes, developed by Dynamix under the umbrella of Sierra Entertainment. Many of the ideas in Halo seemed like refinements of elements of Tribes, including some of the suit styles, the general look of the landscapes, and the concept of loading players into vehicles driven by another player. As a team of seasoned gamers, there's no way Bungee could have had no exposure to Tribes. Therefore, I'm inclined to charge that Tribes served as a major inspiration of Halo and its design.

This "story" shows; Art; Insite; Beauty and Appreciation. Please don't permit negative comments destroy what is a Real Chance to make this into a Series. No program is perfect all the time for all the people, so disregard Dantick09. People like that just go around destroying and taking down what they themselves can NOT create. Multi Award winning my ass... This is a perfect example of the greatest pitfall many videomakers fall into: they think cool effects & cool cgi are the be all end all of a video, and they forget the most important part: STORY. Effects & CGI are just tool, tool to enhance your story.
Sure there is a story, but that story is garbage, no matter how much imagination you have. Besides, it's the filmmaker's DUTY to present us the story, no? It's not us the audience to THINK UP & imagine a story ourselves.. hahaha
+Zen RD Dude, I came from this school, our purpose with our graduation movie is to be hire by Vfx Studio, so it's normal to show our skill in it....It's like a final show reel of our job. We are not directors, we are digital artists, but we have to do direction to make a movie. We touch at everything to make it but our specialty is Digital Art.
+Zen RD there is a story in it and a simple one too, short as it may it's an open ended story that can be interpreted in a different way. A Man with a suit picks a flower to see life in the distance planet but it seem he is taken a gaze afar. Flashback then started-now here we can put our own understanding if the AI is evil or good....same with the synth which you can then connect the start and finish to give it a simple story.
Loved it. Beautifully crafted. The space scenes made me think of Battlestar Galactica and its sophisticated space scenes. And the feeling of loneliness for those adrift pilots. Well done.
I know right? I fell in love with it and it's detail design 10 months ago. The arm pads are a bit big though. Not really a big deal but if it was optional I would've shrinken them, or add more detail to em.
Sometimes a short film is meant to show off as a proof of concept. Sometimes it's meant to show of an idea. it's meant to show off the skill sets of those involved. It's not meant to be an entire movie or even a complete story. It's a short.
Why has this not been made into an animated series that runs for 6-8 seasons, have it's own movie, and eventually a live action version that will bum out all of it's fans!?
I thought that was giving hellashish props to Halo as well.people must think that was the first platform for this type of CGI, Damn kids...I'll tell ya, when I was their age all we had like this was Contra...& in my mind he looked kinda like this guy! That & a Sears catalog my friend:)
Archiver Hd was very in its use of CGi and visually stimulating to watch, it drew me in from the start with its mysterious main character and I would like to see more and I give it my backing and would like too see more

Wow, I am utterly stunned by this, the animation was so good, but, I didn't think some of the music fit with the theme, beside that, I wish that was an entire movie.
People demand a full feature film, as if there are budgets for two-hour CGI animated movies just laying around on the streets. But I like the idea: no living beings; machines took over; just go around and archive stuff, without stupid creatures messing up the order :D

I think this is more of a.. animation portfolio than a full fledged movie, they made this to showcase their skills and tools that they can use and the results of said tools, can't really blame them if that was the case
Halo style?.. first off theirs more dead space in that suit then halo, dead space was even around longer with the full body suits then halo. second off i like the sudden matrix and most android movie bases, the ship scene had something most space moves/games lack and that's those maneuvering thrusters, i like. Amassing job, hope to see more and children don't start raging about whats what. only trolls will care.

I would love to see this as a series. Just the places and story's to explore are endless and can be real amazing.
Here's another beautifully rendered sci-fi short with absolutely no coherent plot line. Great graphics is not an excuse for a lack of story.

Unit 55 was gorgeous. The design was incredible to look at and the space enviroments were amazing. Fun stuff.

BrainToMush I for one have never heard of Tribes.
And not an over paid, light hogging, surgically modified actor in sight. I want imagination and this delivers.

These sort of things are master thesis stuff for these people. Examples of their skill sets. And auditions too.

I would love to see the story behind this film be created, I think it would be interesting as well as exciting to watch to the end.
