The way bette davis's face lit up when she heard olivia de havilands voice is everything! Yes bette is not as affection as olivia, BUT you can clearly tell there's a special bond there because she was delighted to see one of her long time friends 🥰.

Hahaha, I always thought this friendship was so cute. Such different personalities and an unlikely pair that seem to enjoy each other so much. and Bette wasn't being "cold" on purpose, such public displays of affection would be unlike her like a huge hug. But listen to what Bette says, she clearly is shocked Olivia showed up and is happy to see her. Then Olivia holds her hand while she talks - I doubt Miss Davis would have let many people do that on tv or in private LOL so clearly a special bond here.

Two wonderful Actresses. Olivia is very bubbly. Bette is more restrained. But I am sure she loved Olivia. Bette isn't a cuddly person. I imagine she felt everything but unlike the characters she played she was reserved. Love them both. What a great piece of television history. Thanks for sharing this. Bette Davis is my all time favourute actress.

Bette wasn’t cold with Olivia, despite being uncomfortable doing the show she just went along with it. When she saw her she’s happy and said she looked marvelous. If you saw Bette’s interviews she said she wouldn’t just kiss or hug anyone unless they’re friendly with each other. It’s a thing for her. In here you can see she let Olivia do WHATEVER with her. She loved her.

I adore Bette. I don't think she was being cold to Olivia, I think it's just that she isn't a naturally touchy feely person. If she didn't like Olivia then everyone would know it. Bette was far from shy about how she felt about other actresses.
Seems like all the men loved Bette but all the women hated her.

I think there interaction cld not be more genuine right dwn to the hug...there was no acting or bullshit going on here.....they were both happy to see one another bette internalized her emotions while olive clearly externalized.....davis cld not stand crawford n she was clear on why they were two very different kind of women...crawford was envious that bette was nominated for baby jane n told academy mbrs to not vote for bette n then told all the other nominees i will gladly accept for you if you are unable to attend.....she went on to say she felt she deserved to win and desperately wtd to win because she wld have been the 1st female to wind 3 awards n i wld have one if were not for the bitter bitch crawford...

This is so awesome. These two titans of movies were very good friends. I loved "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" with both these two great actresses. It was made for Mrs.Davis and Mrs.Joan Crawford after their success with "Whatever Happen To Baby Jane" but Mrs. Crawford changed her mind so Mrs.Davis called her good friend Mrs. De Havilland for the part. Nothing better than these great years of the 1930'-40'-50'-60'-70-'80'-1985'.

    Olivia about aging:
“I would prefer to live forever in perfect health, but if I must at some time leave this life, I would like to do so ensconced on a chaise longue, perfumed, wearing a velvet robe and pearl earrings, with a flute of champagne beside me and having just discovered the answer to the last problem in a British cryptic crossword."🥰

"You bum!" OMG this was the best expression of love I've ever seen between two best friends! I say something like with my best friend too! Really, only who could be great friends could say something like that! Bette didn't waiting for it, she was petrified, and uncomfortable during all show. I guess Bette was a complex person, for her For her life history since childhood, abandoned by her father and the ambition to give a mother and sister a comfortable life. They had only themselves. Bette created a kind of self-preservation so as not to let anyone approaching her embarrass her or make her suffer more ahead with a disappointment. But with Olivia, she did not need that anymore, it was more than 50 years of a great, great friendship, as Bette herself spoke in one of her interviews.

This show is from 1971 and Bette's good friend Robert Wagner set her up for the "This is Your Life" surprise. Davis was to appear on Wagner's popular television show "It Takes a Thief," and he told her that some publicity stills needed to be made. Bette was not fond of surprises and she soon confronted her friend "RJ" asking, "Why the Fu*K did you DO THAT?!" I guess when all was said and done Bette (after calming down) appreciated being honored for a long and successful Hollywood career which would continue for close to another twenty years. She and Wagner remained friends in any event.

Olivia de havilland hugged her so gladly and Betty Davis didn't even raise her arms. Betty Davis a great woman, a great artist, also a character full of hate, perhaps because she had a bad childhood, perhaps because that's how she was born. There are people who are born with that temperament, it is not their fault.

Bette was very uncomfortable at this show. She later said that she "felt at her own funeral". The fact that she had been cold to Olivia I believe was because she did not like good surprises, not in the real sense, but what good things she did not expect and get her out of control, as she liked to be.
