I am almost 90 years of age. I have been listening to female vocalists since early teenage. Jazz and blues mostly. I discovered Eva less than a year ago. Never heard anyone so good before. Brilliant ! Eva turned every song that she sang into a work of art.
Well... I still remember the first time I heard Aretha Franklin. I was 16, so it was 42 years ago. But Eva Cassidy is right up there with Aretha. Hopefully, they are jamming in Heaven.
This is the first of her songs that I have heard. In fact, today is the first time I heard of her. What a talented lady! I also thought the male guitar player's solo was an excellent one and fit her version of the song. He didn't just try to imitate the big name guitarists, like most people do. Your comments make me eager for more of her music, and to learn more about this talented and gifted lady who is loved by so many.
Every single song she sings, without exception, she makes her own. "Over the Rainbow", "Oh, Danny Boy", "Chain of Fools", "The Autumn Leaves", etc. The list is endless.
This blues singer also sang pop, folk, country, jazz, and rock. She is the most eclectic and overlooked talent in music history. For many of her fans, including this one, she is far and away the most complete vocalist who ever lived. She was able to sing authentically in every genre because she loved ALL types of music and had more colors and textures to her voice than anyone else. What a gift she was. And what a loss.
It just blows my mind that music executives didn’t get it. THIS is just so amazing! Magical gifts one and all. As a veteran trained musician and listener I can clearly see that Eva was truly touched by God and her boys loved her so very deeply. It’s just phenomenal how this little gig in the massive world of music rises up to be the greatest moment ever put on tape. Ever! I would give all of my money to have been there sitting in her presence. To play with her. To listen to her. Gifts from heaven to those involved that should be cherished forever. Wow! Just an amazing time. The greatest moments in life are often short and generally few. This is one of those moments. Very special. Thank you Eva! Thank you fellas! Thank you so much. 🎺
The best female singer in this style ever - period... Proof of God I suppose - never heard such purity and power - and taken from the world so soon.. can you imagine if she walked onto the set of American Idol - they would have closed down the show - you just can't get any better... listen to her recordings like "Fever" ... etc... amazing...
I just can’t think of any words that truly express how amazing Eva is. All I have is thank you Eva for allowing me to hear your beauty. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sometimes the Lord lends us one of angels...and Eva was definitely one of those...her voice was unparalleled....she could sing it all...and that is very rare indeed...thank you Lord for sharing this beautiful women with us.....💘💘💘
Have a look to another "angel" named Kathy Melua. She was admirating Eva, and she produced post mortem, incredible duo with her. ruclips.net/video/b8GOh0HmzFk/видео.html This is just a jewel.
My first thought upon hearing Eva Cassidy sing "A Change Is Gonna Come" was, "I don't think you have the voice for this song." It didn't take long to realise I was wrong. When Eva covers a song, it's as though you are hearing that song for the very first time...
This concert was, alas one of her last. The chemotherapies had already marked this beautiful lady 33 years old. I was at Blues Alley some 10 years ago, I can imagine what was the mood on this day. RIP Eva
She was an angel ... flying too close to the ground. I'd like to feature another angel, she was indeed admirative about Eva, this is Kathy Melua Kathy realised a post-mortem duo with Eva, look ... this is just a jewel ! ruclips.net/video/b8GOh0HmzFk/видео.html
Eva Cassidy is one of the most amazing voice I’ve ever heard : She sang the blues like a black woman ! And her band perfectly emphasized her voice. Thanks for sharing this with us.
And not only is eva fantastic, BUT what about a standing ovation for keith her guitarist , WOW what a sublime solo, effortless , even tho its very hard to play like that.
@@skismith39 So glad you mentioned the instrumentalists - yes, the guitar is magic, and so well matched to the whole performance. The piano is brilliant too!
@@skismith39 His name is Keith Grimes...Eva introduced him at the end in recording. Happy New Year 2022! Like you l-o-v-e Eva and everything she ever put her stamp on! What an immense loss.x
@@skismith39 Keith Grimes. He is considered one of the finest guitar teachers in the world. Personally, I've never heard anyone play a guitar that cleanly, the entire band is simply amazing.
This woman is great , both on her vocals delivery and her guitar playing as well, guy on lead is great and her band are in the pocket, ile be keeping my eyes open for more from her .🏴💙🏴🎸💙🥇
One of the most amazing musical artists ever. Her vocal interpretation of songs is absolutely superb and her delivery is second to none. Rest in Peace sweet angel!!
Jesus...some "new" Eva! Watched pretty much all of her videos a few years back, but this is a revelation. Perfect phrasing and attitude. Blues queen. Falling in love all over again.
Believe it or not, Eva didn't think she had the kind of talent that people would pay to hear! I first heard this incredible voice on the Gospel Experience on KPFA-FM radio in Berkeley CA in 2000. The host, Emmit Powell, introduced Wade In The Water & I fell out. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard either her name or voice. Quick research revealed some amazing facts about her life & brief career, and the saddest news of all, that Eva had died of cancer just months after this Stormy Monday performance. I was never going to be able to see her play 'live'. That's what makes this footage of her so amazing. Her Blues Alley performances were the basis for most of the material on the CDs that came out after her death. She was a truly gifted singer & interpreter of song. I am eternally grateful to the late Emmit Powell for 'gifting' her music to me that day. ♡
I found Eva on RUclips a few years ago. Her talent will live on. What a beautiful voice!... what a unique talent!... what a special gift she has given us! Thank you!
By far, Eva is one of my most favourite artists, everything that comes out of her is TOP SHELF, gone too soon. Wish record companies promoted her, they sometimes have no idea of what talent is, this lady is the meaning of talent.
HATS OFF TO EVA'S LITLE BAND GROUP THERE AT BLUES ALLEY. SHE TURNED DOWN FAME AND GLORY TO BE WITH YOU GUYS THAT LOVED, SUPPORTED AND ENCOURAGED HER SO MUCH. NOTHING FANCY, JUST PERFECTLY AMASING.
This is why she never had a record contract. The record companies didn't know what to do with her. She refused to let them pigeon hole her into any specific genre of music. A true free spirit 'til the end. Love you, Eva! ❤️

It was 2002. I was living in Chicagoland and getting back from work on the train. I got in my car to drive home and they were doing a spot on NPR about her. As soon as I could I went out and bought a CD. I must have just missed the part of that NPR spot that talked about the fact she had died of cancer because I was devastated to find that out when I tried looking up any possible tour dates. Eva will go down as one of the best singers in history ... that guitar solo will also live on...... it was perfect .... not too salty ... just enough cheese on the pizza.
😮astonished to stumble over this when browsing versions (first heard via John Mayall 50+ odd years ago). Really enjoy all the popular recordings by Eva but this is a glorious find. Great vocal, great band. Going to listen to this several times now Loudly 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.

I said man, THIS WOMAN CAN, DOES and nail any style or power, passion or rock, blues, folk, country and without a doubt WOULD BLOW YOUR MIND ! He put the CD down the slot .... and damn for sure JUST THAT HE GOT !!!! WOW. GBjj
Every song Eva touched, turned to gold. Good God, what a voice. Her lead guitarist is absolutely superb. Is he still around, and performing? I know they were an item for a while.
I went many times out to Nashville and saw how many incredibly talented musicians/songwriters are out there, as fast order cooks or waitresses, or gas station attendants. Then I hear what comes out of Nashville from the music execs. Greed does not give one a good ear apparently, and no happy hallmark ending
Wow very nice, for me one of her best songs, fields of gold for me on number 1 but this one very close after that. To bad she is no longer along with us, very talented singer!
First time hearing this amazing, beautiful, voice!! I thought I would listen to a reaction video of a vocal coach listening to Eva sing 'Over the rainbow' and now I want to hear every song!!! RIP ♡ EVA♡ 💛💛
Eva Cassidy what can you say Absolutely Brilliant. R.I.P. Darling.
Better than anything you'll hear on the radio today. Just amazing.
Just heard this on the radio today 😊
@@chandralhardyImagine that?! ❤
Everybody plays "Stormy Monday". Nobody's ever sang it like that. And I doubt anybody ever will again.
Clapton 2001 was unreal. Much better than this version. She's got a good voice though

Feel the same
I agree, this lady had great pipes!.It is sad that she had to die at such a young age, just 33 when she passed.
Every single song she sings, without exception, she makes her own. "Over the Rainbow", "Oh, Danny Boy", "Chain of Fools", "The Autumn Leaves", etc. The list is endless.
Agreed 100%! She was a one off and too soon gone. Such a talent sadly lost to the world.
Agree
True story. "Autumn Leaves" is a great example because there are so many thousands of interpretations of it. Hers is definitive.

Georgious piece of music. Everything perfect, vocals guitar bass drums. Amazing
That's the blues, right there, but alas life is so fleeting, but at least with Eva she gave us a glimpse of the divine.
Eva's cover of this classic is pure, flawless blues; just can't find any other version that comes close.
