I continue to learn how to use all the great features of my FTDX10. I’m a relatively new HAM and I really appreciate your videos. You explain these features in a way that I can understand them. Thank you and 73.
I’m glad you liked it. My operating techniques can be applied to just about any transceiver, from any manufacturer. The exact name of the controls might vary from brand to brand. Some might not have APF and/or the Contour filter. I cover the variations in my Glossary of Amateur Radio Terminology and Common Radio Controls, available for S7 and S9 Patreon support team members.
These videos are awesome. My license expired about 25 years ago, and I'm ready to get back. I did decide on this FTDX10, and found a used one at an authorized dealer today, I am going to get it. The shop sold it new a couple of years ago, so I know it's not grey market.
I think you will be pleased with your purchase. I have 101 (thus far) tutorial videos available for the FTdx10, at Patreon.com/N4HNH, for S7 (Executive) and S9 (VIP) members who help keep this channel going. 73, de N4HNH
I've been using this method since you first brought it to my attention. Can you also use the contour filter so as to keep the band width wider? Thanks Doug. 73
Hi Martin! The Contour filter cuts or boosts a specific frequency range within the audio spectrum. It cannot be used to widen or narrow the spectrum. It can be used to color the tone or duck noise.
Thank you Douglas, I've learned a great deal watching your filtering videos (different radio, same theory). I spent much of the time during the WWDX contest a few weeks ago just practicing with the filtering on my IC-7300. I have a question for you. There were many times when I had a strong station both 1 kHz above, and 1 kHz below the target station. Would it be realistic to expect ANY radio to be able to handle that situation?
I had that same scenario in one of my videos. I don’t remember which one. I think it was with the FTdx5000MP. It might have been the FTdx101MP. The FTdx101MP videos are only available for S9 Patreon members. Anyway, I used the technique in this video to minimize to high frequency interference and I used the variable preselector to minimize the low frequency interference. But, if you don’t have a variable preselector, minimizing the high frequency interference is the best choice. The higher frequency (metallic) sound is more annoying than the low frequency (honking) sound.
The playlist is available for S7 and S9 Patreon support members. They cover 96% of the expenses for my channel. I also wrote a post to help people decide between the FTdx101, FTdx10, or FT-710. It’s available in the collection for each radio, on the Patreon Collections page.
I have a radio that works that way. It takes three knob turns to drop the highs, minimize the lows, and adjust the passband center point. With the newer Yaesu transceivers, only two knobs need to be rotated - width and shift.
I 100% agree. People don’t like the volume knob of the FTdx10 being on the left side of the VFO knob. But I prefer it there so the DSP controls are all separate knobs/rings on the righthand side.

I’m glad you like my videos. Thanks for letting me know. 73, de N4HNH
Thanks Doug for your invaluable information and intuitive videos as usual ! I enjoy them immensely !
I’m glad you liked the video, Sam. Thank you for your continued support. Without you I would not be able to continue.
Another great video Doug. Thanks for all you do.
You’re very welcome, Jim! 73, Doug
Great video 👍 Applies to the FT-710 too and really helps an HF newby visualise what's actually going on

@@n4hnhradio I was KAOMXI, hopefully I can get my same call sign back. I was also VQ9RS in 1991, but I'm never going back there!
I hope you can get your old callsign. That would be awesome.
Another great tip. I'll try it in the contest later today. Thanks Doug!
I’m glad you like it, Steve. There are a few similar videos about dealing with interference like that. Each was a slightly different scenario. 73
Very helpful video Doug.
I’m glad you like it, Wendell.
Love the filters on my DX10. Very handy during CQ WW SSB a few weeks ago!
Yes they are!
Informative video, thanks.👍
You’re very welcome. I’m grateful for the Patreon members who cover 96% of the cost.

@@n4hnhradio Thanks. Another learning experience!
I’m glad you liked it, Martin. I’ve covered this subject before. But this opportunity allowed me to cover it with a bit of nuance.

@FA7X you’re welcome.
I'm thinking of getting a FTDX 10 and heard you have a playlist (you said on another channel's video), what happened to it I can't find it?

Thank goodness for a single hi cut control
I have a radio that works that way. It takes three knob turns to drop the highs, minimize the lows, and adjust the passband center point. With the newer Yaesu transceivers, only two knobs need to be rotated - width and shift.
Could this be done with the notch filter on the FT-710?
No. Notch filter is for heterodyne.
My only gripe with the FT710 is how much trickier it is to do this same thing in a hurry.. much better with the controls on the DX10

Do you leave those settings all the time.
Not really. I just narrow up when necessary.
Thanks for the reply. KM4NAP
