- CARTOON EVOLUTION #1.5 - VOICE OF BUGS BUNNY
Created as a companion video to my series of CARTOON EVOLUTION videos (specifically the one focusing on the Big Chungus himself, 'Evolution of BUGS BUNNY Over 81 Years (1938-2019) Explained'), I take a look at the vocal evolution of the character as I compare the voices of all of Bugs' official voice actors over time, including the legendary Mel Blanc, Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson, Billy West, Sam Vincent, Joe Alaskey, Jeff Bergman, Charlie Schlatter.
Here's my look at Bugs Bunny's Voice Through the Years!

Bugs is one of those voices where you just can't beat the original, but Jeff Bergman really nailed the Mel Blanc voice style in the early 90s.
I thought he nailed the voice style in the later years.
But he's not dead, though? He is very much still alive.
No it was a mistake I just did sorry
Cool bot comment. Definitely not a scam at all.
@@FoxMan_FF very much alive and also very much voicing Bugs in Space Jam 2
You forgot Mel Blanc’s son, Noel Blanc. He would voice Bugs for his dad when he wasn’t available or sick.
The problem is that no one’s really sure if he ever voiced Bugs in animation or not. There are some clips of him demonstrating his Bugs voice, but none of him officially portraying the character.
Talk About Cinema
I guess it doesn’t help that Noels sounds extremely similar to his dad.
This is the exact video I was searching for. Thanks for this mate. Great work. Amazing hearing all the voice I don’t think any one of the later voices did a bad job they all give justice to Bugs Bunny. But Mel Blanc will always hold a special place in everyone’s hearts. Without him it wouldn’t have continued to this day I believe. He laid down the foundation for it. And everyone just does them best Mel impression.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Bugs' voice that helped bring Mel out of a coma?
Apparently a true story
First bugs, then daffy, then porky, then Mel.
It’s been proven to be true by his son Noel Blanc in the documentary Mel Blanc: Man Of A 1,000 Voices
It was a miracle.
Radiolab did a peice on it
3:19 I can't tell you how much I've used this line! Honestly, Mel Blanc literally created 'His Own' evolution of the character! For over 50 years this man still continues to WOW and Amaze us!
Hooray for memes!
@@robbiewalker2831 because it’s Big Chungus and without that there wouldn’t be no SMG4.
Hard to say which Bugs voice is better cause all of them sounded good but If I had to choose:
1. Mel Blanc
2. Jeff Bergman
3. Joe Alaskey
4. Billy West
In my opinion, Joe and Jeff were the best after Mel Blanc! I love Billy West's work but no matter what character he plays he still sounds like Billy West, a lot of other famous voice actors do too though like Tara Strong and Jim Cummings. They're versatile and super talented but you can almost always hear them in their performances if you pay attention :)
My Ranking:
Mel Blanc (Of Course!)
Jeff Bergman
Joe Alaskey
Eric Bauza
Greg Burson
Billy West
Noel Blanc
Jeff Bergman"s Bugs is up there with Mel Blanc. The late Joe Alaskey, and Greg Burson could do a top-notch Bugs too.
Jeff is a close second to Mel. I almost can’t tell their voices apart sometimes
1:36 Plot twist: *That's Woody the Woodpecker in that Bugs Bunny costume!*
Avgn reference
That plot twist in the AVGN episode makes a lot more sense now
"I'm taking you with me you woody bunny pecker piece of s**t!" - AVGN
Does that mean that AVGN actually dumped on Woody Woodpecker dressed as Bugs Bunny?
That is AVGN
Jeff Bergmans job voicing Bugs Bunny is good as well as Mel Blanc.
I do thank Jeff Bergman 5:46
and Joe Alesky 9:51-Both do a phenomenal job at playing our favorite Waskily Wabbit!
Jeff Bergman is back as him in the new Space Jam. I personally like Billy West the best.
3:19 that will hold him allright - big chungus
No one can top Mel of course (RIP), but Jeff, Greg, Billy and Joe all did good jobs over the years as Bugs too (RIP Greg and Joe). Of these four replacements, I'd say Jeff was the best in the early 90s because he sounded the most like Mel back then. I once read somewhere that his current voice for Bugs since The Looney Tunes Show was actually a creative decision though, not just due to the near-20 year absence from voicing Bugs regularly. Who knows.
Tom Kenny would do a pretty good job imo
Jacob Lakins Yeah but the creator of that show died
When and where did Tom Kenny voiced Bugs? I've watched this video and I didn't see him in there.
@@bryanferratt6598 he said WOULD do a good job
@@bluepineapple4396 Oh I guess I just didn't see that. 😄😄😄
Yeah, he would, but I'd probably only hear SpongeBob coming out of Bugs Bunny.
Mel Blanc is _The_ Bug Bunny even up until his later years he was perfect. Bergman, did a awesome job taking over as Bugs in early 90's, but recently, I have to admit I not use to they way he voices him currently. Joe Alaskey also did a solid performance of him.
Fuck you
@@the_vincent_show Bruh why you so mad?
Deborah Horowitz bruh you’re literally a little kid, you shouldn’t even be on RUclips. Go swear in your own household ya fetus.
Alpha Jay 3.0 I think Joe Alaskey is probably the best one out of the other actors voice Tim minus minus Mel blanc
Mel Blanc, Joe Alaskey, Jeff Bergman (2011-2020 version), and Eric Bauza are the best ones.
Honestly mel's voice as Bugs did not change that much Even When he was old and dying Since Bugs is a pretty easy voice to do.
I fundamentally disagree. Bugs sound very different during Mel's later years. Especially in later Chuck Jones shorts.
@@abdullahibouraleh6919 now that I saw a few of Chuck's 1980 cartoons. You are right. It's a little bit older and it doesn't have much energy in it. But the voice is almost the same. Also it's a honor to meet you. Big fan 😁
Y'all forgot about Noel Blanc (Mel Blanc's son). I believe he voiced Bugs in few things
Yes, he did. He also voiced Bugs for a segment in the Family Guy Movie "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" (2005).
spindalis79 Noel voiced Elmer Fudd for Family Guy, not Bugs.
Bugs, in any form, is officially my favorite cartoon character of all time
Mel Blanc is still a legend as the king of cartoons! Had the chance to meet Gérard Surugue as Bugs Bunny's French voice.
2:34
Bugs Bunny: I AM A WABBIT! *yells*
Jeff Bergman was pretty close in the early 90s. I don’t know why his more recent portrayal sounds so different.
2:12 That's some SMOOTH animation
Carrotblanca had messed up audio.
Try headphones
Mel obviously was a legend as Bugs, but I'm a big fan of Joe Alaskey's take on him mostly thanks to Looney Tunes: Back in Action. He's probably my favorite besides Mel.
Out of all the voice actors Mel Blanc was The Bugs Bunny! The others wern't bad either but none could ever come as close as Mel Blanc!
You should do Daffy Duck next and your videos are awesome
9:35 That’s my favorite Bugs line in Back in Action. Someone ought to make that an exploitable meme replacing the “rabbit with lipstick” part with all kinds of things.
I love hearing this voice evolution! Gonna have to relisten with headphones tho cause Carrotblanca fell victim to the two-speakers-only curse rip
I love these videos! Thanks for doing these! Mel Blanc is my favorite of them all
Thank *YOU* for watching!
My favorite Bugs Bunny portrayals are as follows.
1. Mel Blanc
2. Joe Alaskey
3. Jeff Bergman
4. Eric Bauza (He’s the current voice in Looney Tunes: World of Mayhem and the upcoming shorts)
Yeah Eric bauza is the current voice actor for bugs bunny
Mel Blanc actually wanted his son, Noel Blanc to take over as Bugs Bunny. But after only a few times in the recording booth, Noel called it quits and walked away.
Jeff Bergman will always be my all time favorite voice of Bugs and Daffy for being a worthy successor to Mel Blanc and Joe Alaskey.
ranking on best voices:
7: Sam Vincent
6: Billy West
5: Charlie Schlatter
4: Joe Alaskey
3: Greg Burson
2: Jeff Bergman
1: the one, the only... MEL BLANC!!!!!!
You forgot eric bauza
Mel Blanc, no contest! Although I say that both Jeff Bergman and Joe Alaskey came close in terms of matching the sprit of Mel’s voice. I also love Eric Bauza’s take on the character in recent Looney Tunes media as he might be my favorite Bugs Bunny voice actor in recent times.
Pretty hard to top Mel Blanc when it comes to just about any Looney Tunes character. He was one among many reasons the original shorts were so great.
I’ve heard some of Eric Bauza’s take and he’s actually very spot on. Joe Alaskey usually was pretty good too.
Greg Burson and Jeff Bergman were decent replacements, although Jeff was better in the early 1990s than in more recent media. Billy West is a great voice actor, but his Bugs sounds just a bit too similar to some of his other roles.
My ranking (not counting Schlatter and Vincent):
1. Mel Blanc
2. Eric Bauza
3. Joe Alaskey
4. Greg Burson
5. Jeff Bergman
6. Billy West
I’d rank joe Greg and Jeff Over Eric, but I agree with everything else. Eric Sounds similar to Greg IMO even though Greg was a terrible person. He was arrested for a few things
After rereading my reply from over a year ago, I can confirm that no one asked.
It's so weird seeing and hearing the first versions of Bugs because I had those shorts on VHS back when I was a kid and I haven't seen them since before then.
Mel Blanc was a GAWD
Mel is Bugs no doubt about it but the closest for me is Billy West
I've discovered a lot of unseen cartoons from this, thanks!
Okay last one. I love that Billy's version kind of sounds like Roger Klotz
Eh, what’s up doc? Can’t wait for another video and if you did a Popeye one, can I request the evolution and voice evolution of Olive Oil. Thanks and much appreciated if you can Dave.
3:20 BIG CHUNGUS!!!🐰
Doing one for the competition, I see. Hope this means a Daffy Duck retrospective is in consideration.
Daffy's up next!
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Right on.
Can't top Mel, but Jeff was petty good in the early 90s stuff (not really into the more modern stuff of his). Billy wasn't bad either, maybe just a scoosh too high up vocally. Not a fan of Greg and while Joe made for a great Daffy and Sylvester, I wasn't into his Bugs very much.
Bergman and Blanc sound exactly the same!!
You forgot Keith Scott's Bugs. He voiced him mainly for Warner bros Movie World and he did a show tape for Six Flags.
I did not forget. As you said... he voices him at theme parks. This video specifically focuses on visual media.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Ah ok.
3:19 THAT'LL HOLD DEM ALLRIGHT HEHEHEHE-Big chungus' only line
I thought it was blahnk not blank
5:15 Oh xD You were right lol Sorry
You included Lunatics Unleashed, thank you!!!
3:21 that'll hold em alright/Big Chungus meme
Eric Bauza can do a great Bugs, too!
Bugs Bunny is just about Everbody's Favorite Cartoon Character. His antics make just about everyone's laughs go a mile a minute. It's also interesting to see him go from the white rabbit to the various other colored rabbits like brown and white and then grey and white.also whether or not blue and white too?
Eh what's up Doc ?
Mel Blanc and Jeff Bergman are awesome.
and yes am a little Loony Tune.
well any way.

Mel Blanc is the best!
I love watching the old looney tunes because I always loved Mel Blanc’s Bugs. I also liked Bugs in the Looney Tunes show that just ended as well
3:20 The Internet:The god himself!
Also, I love Billy West as Bugs, along with Joe Alasky and Jeff Bergman!
The guys who came after the original did really well.
Mel Blanc is the best Voice actor *PERIOD*
Greg Burson and Billy West are my favorite voice actors
Datll hold em all white hehehehehe-Bugs Bunny
2:50 Of Course You Know, THIS MEANS WAR!!!!
Billy West is the only one who feels off. The rest of them are spot-on to sounding like Mel Blanc's voice style, it made me mistake them as a single voice actor.
lol but when bugs says “special delivery” In space jam that’s the only time Billy west sounds spot on to Mel. I guess billy west wanted to just do his own spin on it and not imitate Mel, but do his own rendition
His is a little high pitched
Mel Blanc is forever Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes (well not all of them but you know he did nearly everything), ‘nuff said. Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson and maybe Joe Alaskey are runner ups. Billy West’s take a little meh for me even though it’s not an impersonation of what Blanc did. I wonder what Mel Blanc would’ve thought about the Big Chungus meme if he were still alive today lol.
3:22 BIG CHUNGUS MEH BOIS
God damnit why didn't I see that coming

Mel Blanc will always be the best voice for Bugs Bunny
What's the name of the short Bugs was in on 6:36? It says Animaniacs?? Its driving me mad!!
It’s not a short. It’s from what it says, an episode of Animaniacs.
Thanks.
6:28 ehh Warner Brothers paid me to say that
2:51 that version of bugs bunny made me uncomfortable. Such a deep voice 😳😳😳
Sounds a bit like Tigger, doesn’t it?
1:36 Woody Woodpecker laugh
It seems that Woody Woodpecker stole that laugh from Happy Rabbit (Proto Bugs Bunny)
which voice evloutions are you thinking to do
I only do Voice Evolutions for characters I cover in the main Evolution series
I think I'm gonna borrow that expression:
"Wait an apple potion minute". I kinda like it.
3:19 big chungus
I love that Mel Blanc's voice acting change along with Bugs Bunny's design
Sound went out for carrotblanca on my phone
Nice one can you do Daffy evaltion.
And Daffys voice.
He’s next!
Who did the voice of bugs in Gremlins 2 and cartoon All-Stars to the rescue?
Jeff Bergman.
Kinda sad no one likes Billy West's Bugs as much. I'm a huge Billy West fan, so that's probably why
His Bugs Bunny voice isn't bad, actually. Closer to 50s Bugs than the others.
I think Fry's Bugs impression is a banger too ngl.
@@becdoesyoutube I think most people in this comment section has pretty good ears, because everyone Bugs Bunny voice besides Sam Vincent's version sound the same. I've even tried listening the Billy West's version a couple of times but I still can't find the difference.
At, 6:00, I'm pretty sure that Hare Way to the Stars is a 1950s short, not 1991.
The man of 1.000 voices Mel Blanc
what,s up doc
Does everybody still remembers the big chungus meme ?
Man, that second one was straight up Daffy Duck.
Or woody woodpecker
Mel Blanc was and will always be the definitive Bugs, I don't think anyone will disagree on that... but who's the best of his sucessors? In my opinion, it's split between Joe Alaskey and Billy West. Joe Alaskey because he came by far the closest to recreating the classic Bugs voice, and Billy West because he seemed more concerned with getting the CHARACTER right than getting the VOICE right.
The others are okay... though... I have to say it! I don't what happened to Jeff Bergman in the long gap when he wasn't allowed to be Bugs, but he just CAN'T do a New York/Bronx accent anymore! He used to be able to do at least a decent accent, but nowadays his attempts at an accent just sound WEIRD. What happened there?
Jeff is getting old
@@samperry5383 Sure, but does that explain why he lost his ability to do an accent? He's still a good voice actor, it's just that he can't do Bugs's accent anymore. But he used to be able to.
Amazing and I love it
Thanks Deborah!
5:11 this is when my childhood began this was the first episode I watched and got addicted to
We can continue the voice actor of Bugs Bunny Jeff Bergman! He is a good voice actor for the current Bugs Bunny!
that thumbnail of fat buggs brings back so much memories 😭
What’s up doc also I like Bauza’s voice also Eric Bauza voiced a shit ton characters in Ben 10 Omniverse
7:55 Eh, What’s Up Doc?” 🐰🥕
seeing Bugs Bunny again reminds me of that one Tumblr post where he can probably defeat Thanos singlehandly by conning him into a metal detector line in an airport and asking him to remove his gauntlet before check-in. of course Thanos would have to retort because well, he's Thanos and needed not a trivial thing but Bugs would make him feel bad by making him see the line of multiple Bugs in different outfits angrily waiting for him to remove all of his metal stuff, gauntlet included.
