I like your theory a lot. I would have loved to hear her sing “West Covina,” and have each character react to it. But my theory is that Rebecca songs the new theme song “Meet Rebecca.” My reason for this is because Rebecca is figuring out who she is as a person. She is defining herself for her qualities rather than her trauma and her relationships, like you mentioned, as well as becoming her own person.
I adore Rebecca's growth over the course of the series. She gradually transitions into more well adjusted woman who doesn't need a romantic relationship to define her happiness. You go, girl! ♥️

EVERYONE needs to watch this brilliant, I cannot emphasise this enough, *BRILLIANT* (oh, maybe I could) show. The story line, the character growth, the topics, the stereotypes, the songs, the music, the music parodies and references, the dancing, the costumes, every single detail in this show was thought out and executed perfectly. Rachel is genius and so talented: the whole cast actually is perfect! Every single one of them, ridiculously talented! It's a hell of a joyful and emotional ride. And watching it again is even better because you can see the little details and foreshadowing since day 1. An absolutely outstanding four-season series.
The most hilarious part of this is that neither the dude in the pilot who doesn't speak English (Mr. No hablo inglés) nor the lady that speaks Spanish with Nathaniel are native speakers and have very very very very thick accents

You know, come to think of it, I think it makes sense to assume that Greg has actually always looked like Skylar Astin. I know I will get a lot of hate, but in a purely conventional-hotness-and-not-judgment way, Skylar is much more fitting for the description "he is so hot, he should be a category on porn sites" that was used by people othen than Rebecca several times in the first season. I think the explanation here is that Rebecca, being fixated on Josh and being rejective of Greg's advances, saw him in a less handsome and kind of a goofier way than he actually looked.
But i think the point of them going a little overboard on the greg praising is specifically because they wanted to uphold people who were less conventionally attractive. They turned down david hull for the role of greg cause he was too conventionally attractive and instead cast him as white josh and hurled insults at him through the entire first season.
