She should have been punished unless no one would dispute her children's legitimacy. The only Hand who actually wanted the best for the King and the Royal Family Lord Lyonel Strong
A great man. I wonder why his one son was such a piece of shire? Perhaps it WAS the curse of Haren the Black.
Even by this point they must've known that Harenhal was no good like how many houses must fall before they stop giving that abomination to people ? Littlefinger thinks he can escape the curse if he never goes to HH but he can't.
The last house it destroyed is actually the house of Cat's mom: House Whent.
@@burtan2000 House Whent are still around though luckily unlike Houses Strong, Lothston, Hoare, Harroway, Towers, Qoheryes , Slynt and Baelish 😂😂😂
@@burtan2000I didn’t think littlefinger was Superstitious
If we're going by show only tyrion did want the best for every monarch he served. Granted he sucked at his job for dany but he still wanted it. Davos was also a good hand to stannis and arguably jon (even though i dont think jon officially named him hand). Tywin was also a good hand for joffrey.
@thehiddenone8892 littlefinger says in book 4 that the last whent (whom is an old woman btw so even if hes lying he won't be soon) died. Also house slynt is still alive as janos had three sons.
And in true Game of Thrones fashion, the honourable and good men of House Strong prevailed and lived the happy and long life they deserved.
😂😂
In any other medieval fantasy, that would have been true. But in the world of Ice&Fire, such people are battlefodder.
I thought the remaining targaryens after the dance of dragons were Daemon's descendants?

It really says something that Lord Strong is the only one, that doesn't have an agenda, who gives Viserys genuine good advice
i think Lord Lyonel is comparable to Varys in GoT
@@centurion722 varys is more conniving
Everyone may have their own agenda in game of thrones, but there will always be people who will care, and can give good advice from time to time......
The Kings job is to take all those words and separate all the shat advice from sage advice, have your own thoughts added in.
Then you are to choose what is best for the whole first, and for you second.... and if you cannon do so, try to find a compromise
Although as it turned out Rhaenera marrying breakbones might have averted the war, since the children she had with him would have been legitimate
@@simontaylor2143 yeah i mean Viserys probably even would have LET her marry him, despite there being better matches from more... prestigious families. He literally let her hold actual auditions. Although at that point in her life she probably would have turned him down, even. She basically rejected everyone as (at least in the show) she was obviously not ready to marry--not ready to marry anyone.
Lord lyonel was the real man
I mean, his sername is kinda similar to the word "loyal". I think it was in purpose basically.
Lyonel was so real over that Jaehaerys comment 😂 like yes Viserys, Rhaenyra is wild but be thankful you didn't go through what Jaehaerys went through 😂😂
But isn’t it kinda backhanded as Viserys mother was one of the daughters?
@@melissa5051doesn’t change the fact that Jaehaerys had some wild ass daughters🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@melissa5051 it wasn't an insult. it was merely a stated fact. one of which Viserys had first hand knowledge of. Peace can be crafted even with wild daughters.
Viserys allowed worse than anything that Jaehaerys went through.
@@melissa5051i think he is from the male line, like, his father was the second or third son
Best hand of the King. Even putting back his own ambition and the potential of his son becoming king. Good and honest man
Lyonel kept it real, he was taken too soon.
Well, he did serve as Hand of the King for over a decade. Had a hood tenure... shame about his end, he had a hot streak of good advice going on
Honestly Harwin was a great match. A well known and respected knight, a captain of the City Watch, the son of one of his counselors, and heir to Harrenhal. Not to mention, a good man.
He really was, but the unfortunate truth was that the strongs didn't have enough to bring to the table for a royal match. They were an old and respected house, but they didn't have the wealth, or military strength that a number of the houses had. Harwin and Rhaenyra would have been happy together but the dance would still have happened, but Rhaenyra would have had to fight it without the support of the velaryon family.
@@ryanarment5393 They still would’ve had Velaryon support through Daemon and his daughters.
@@ryanarment5393I'm not sure about that... considering the facts, the main dispute against Rhaenyra was based on several things, chief among them being that she was a woman, yes, but what laid validity to Aegon's claim was that not only was Rhaenyra female, but also she had been unfaithful and fathered bastards, whom she pretended to pass off as trueborn and therefore proper heirs of venerable seats, including the Iron Throne itself.
Most of the disputes that led to the Dance might have had no foundation if there wasn't a doubt as to whether her children were trueborn. Odds still stand that it could have happened anyways though, since Larys would have probably tried to murder his brother and father at some point in some way, and assuming it still succeeded it would have brought Otto back, and thus a chance to keep on scheming at court. Not to mention that Alicent's falling out with Rhaenyra had nothing to do with her relationship with Harwin (initially), with the parentage of her children being more of an aggravating factor.
All in all, the dance might still have happened, but quite a few things would have favored Rhaenyra more than they ended up as they did. Who knows though, if it would really have made a difference
@@ryanarment5393 didn't many small/vassal houses bring up their heirs etc. during Rhaenyra's marriage tour, though? Like Bracken, Blackwood, Dondarrion etc., none of these are particularly known for their wealth or armies and yet according to Alicent Viserys and her put together that list of candidates or at least checked it before sending Rhaenyra off. So if they'd wanted, the Strongs probably could have put Harwin on the list as well
I didn't read the books but was Harwin one of the gold cloaks dameon brought up or joined after they were established?
Well, his son was indeed the best match for Rhaneyra.
"King Jaeherys children drove him of the edge of madness. His daughters in particular"
"Hold on a second, are you talking about my mum?"
I thought he was a nephew? Also I've yet to see a comment pointing out what a monster Jahaerys was to his daughters, with his actions leading directly to the deaths of 2, if not 3 of the girls.
@@viddergrapho8488 What the hell are you talking about? Out of Jaeharys' 7 daughter, 1 died from the Shivers, 1 died from Greyscale, 2 died from childbirth, 1 committed suicide after having a stillborn child, and the other broke her neck riding a horse. He was only a "monster" to one of his daughters and that was because she wanted to be a whore.
Little did they know that Viserys was right. 😂
He should've married Rhea and Harwin. They got together anyways and had 3 sons together
You cant prove this... and any more talk of this will be seen as heresy against the crown
He should have married Deamon to Rheanyra.
It wouldn’t have strengthened her claim to the throne that’s what he cared about. Laenor was the most sensible match for her but being gay was an issue 😂
@@zennamok5428Her children are BASTARDS, and she is a WHORE.
@@MasonNoThumbsActually no, there was familial bonds to the Velryons. A stronger Union would be someone outside the family with resources, the Arryns or the Lannister or the Starks, etc… and Rhaenyra spat all of that away because she just had to be girl boss.
Damn, this man can act!!!
As demonstrated by Viserys, the traits that make a great man don't necessarily make a great king.
He held that shitshow together and played with the cards he had. Dude was a good King.
@@revanamell1791yes. Viserys kept the realm in peace until he died
Was a better hand than Otto ever was.
Than Otto ended up being? Yes, definitely. Than Otto EVER was? Debatable. Remember Otto served Jahaerys even before he served Viserys, and by all accounts, considering how successful Jahaerys's reign was, he was very competent at his job. Viserys's reign also had no significant issues other than the pissing match between Otto and Daemon from time to time.
Odds are Otto did start as genuine and devoted to his role as Hand of the King, but that Daemon's assessment of him as a "second son who get nothing he doesn't take for himself" plus the added pressure from his family pushed him to eventually developing more and more conflicts of interests.
Remember, judge not just by what they're doing, but also by what they did, in order to get a more complete idea of the character of a man.
EDIT: also bears mentioning that even Larys acted selfishly at a specific point rather than being 100% honest. When it came to him realizing his son indeed had an affair with Rhaenyra, he couldn't bring himself to be open about it because it would bring ruin to his son and his House. Understandable, but not totally honest. He took to Harrenhal with him precisely to avoid trouble, which ended up playing eventually into Rhaenyra's opponents favor. One could say his moment of weakness, while understandable and absolutely not his fault at all since he personally did nothing wrong, was one more seed in the field that became the Dance.
@@maxi1ification Otto murdered the Hand, to become the Hand again. Then he started a Civil War, which destroyed the Targaryen's rule. Otto was a horrible Hand and the main reason the Targaryen's lost power.
@@cainabel6356Otto never should've been named Hand again. That was Viserys worst mistake
Pretty sure that’s the most humble, integral, respectful and caring hand we’ve seen yet.
Viserys was very lucky to have him at least, through all his suffering.
Paddy absolutely SMASHED THIS ROLE ❤️
Is Rhaeynra married Harwin, she could've avoided almost all the problems she would go on to face.
Not entirely true. Even if Rhaenyra had legitimate children, the Greens would still usurp her and the Dance would still happen.
She wouldn't have nearly as many dragons... and she would still have to fight for her throne
Strong is an underrated hand , one of the best hand of the king of all time.
Wise words from Strong. Poor Old King Jaehaerys. Arguably the greatest ruler the realm has ever known. Yet, so much sadness and loss at home.

Lord Lyonel Strong was so dutiful and full of integrity that one wonders how he could ever have produced a son like Larys.
My ideal Small Council:
Hand: Lyonel Strong
Master of Whispers: Brynden “Bloodraven” Rivers
Master of Laws: Eddard Stark
Master of Coin: Lyman Beesbury
Master of Ships: Davos Seaworth
Grand Maester: Aemon Targaryen
Lord Commander of the Kingsguard: Barristan Selmy
Bonus - Advisor on the Faith of the Seven: Septon Meribald
Bonus - Remaining members of the Kingsguard: Duncan the Tall, Brienne of Tarth, Arthur Dayne, Aemon the Dragonknight, Loras Tyrell, Erryk Cargyll

The guy was the best Hand, and if he was not murdered, Viserys would not have his kingdom destroyed.
actually Aegon is the best match for Rhaenyra
Viserys´ true friend and counsellor. What a chad
Not my son the plot says he get screwed.
Honestly, I was waiting for harwin to be a heartless brute but him being a compassionate nuanced mentor and also a hulking vending machine of a knight would have made a good match. Why shouldn’t the hand of the kings son and the princess marry especially when she has a dragon and he’s the strongest knight in the kingdom. He wasn’t on the kings guard either so he could have
He indeed could have. But sadly his father was way too honest an advisor to actually put his name forward when a more politically expedient match was available they hadn't considered before, and the Strongs weren't quite in a position to compete with the other suitors that had already come forward asking for Rhaenyra's hand (which probably played as a motivation for the former point in the first place).
Had Rhaenyra and Ser Harwin actually shown interest in each other, I don't think Viserys would have minded the match much, he was desperate for her to marry anybody at this point, but they didn't quite have the chance. Seems Harwin only truly started taking notice of Rhae when she came back with the dead boar, and their interactions remained sporadic for a good while.
Tom can talk the talk but will he ever walk the walk? 😂
