  • After a trip to Japan, husband and wife team Aaron Israel and Sawako Okochi discovered the similarities in flavors between their different upbringings, his Jewish and hers Japanese. Paying homage to their combined heritages, the couple opened Shalom Japan as a culinary representation of their relationship. The Brooklyn-based Japanese-Jewish restaurant seamlessly blends the two cuisines with dishes like matzo ball ramen, sake-infused challah and pastrami topped okonomiyaki.

That chirashi bowl 😳👍 Very cool couple and truly amazing looking food. Sawako is from Hiroshima but her okonomiyaki is definitely Osaka style which makes it more like the latke they are going for...fun fusion indeed. Best episode of the series. Well done.
