Dorsal Ventral Polarity Generation in Drosophila | Gurken-Torpedo Pathway

  • The nucleus of the oocyte travels to what will become the dorsal side of the embryo. The gurken genes of the oocyte synthesize mRNA that becomes localized between the oocyte nucleus and the cell membrane, where it is translated into Gurken protein. The Gurken signal is received by the Torpedo receptor protein made by the follicle cells Given the short diffusibility of the signal, only the follicle cells closest to the oocyte nucleus (i.e., the dorsal follicle cells) receive the Gurken signal, which causes the
follicle cells to take on a characteristic dorsal follicle morphology and inhibits the synthesis of Pipe protein. Therefore, Pipe protein
is made only by the ventral follicle cells. The ventral region, at a slightly later stage of development. Sulfated proteins on the ventral region of the vitelline envelope recruit Gastrulation-defective (GD), which in turn complexes with other proteins, initiating a cascade that results in the cleaved Spätzle protein binding to the Toll recep- tor. The resulting cascade ventralizes the cell.

I watch your videos in occasions from 2019 and this is my first comment.
I had passed Masters in 2012. When I read the topic back in 2017 there was no one to guide me. And I understood this dificult topic by myself reading Gilbert dev bio book.
These days the animated illustrations are very helpful for students and it's totally free. I can't understand why the views are so less

Thanks Tanmoy for appreciation..... At my time i too had no on to guide or help me ......That being the reason i put out everything out there without any paid subscription. ( and only u could know how much it takes to make these difficult topics into these simple illustrations ).
      Thanks again....

Could you please clarify why there is no gurken signaling on the ventral side? How can the nucleus distinguish ventral from dorsal and only produce gurken mRNA on the dorsal side? Thanks a lot!
