    One of the reasons that The Warning has such a dedicated fan base is that fans are PROUD of them, after seeing how they started, etc. They are so well documented and have been so open with their fans.

      Their fans can feel happy for the success that they are building, but no one can actually be PROUD of something they didn't do or of something in which they played no role. They can take pride in themselves, and their family and crew who helped them achieve can feel proud of their achievements because they had a stake in it; they played a role. Fans can feel joy at observing what they have done for themselves.

    That bass Ale was playing at their xmas recital is an Ibenaz miKro, a short scale bass, smaller than the 3/4 Fender Mustang she grew into the nest year. She then moved on up to a full scale Spector Euro IV (Two actually gifted to her by avery generous fan). And moving up the 5 string Spectors she plays today.

    Yes, you're correct about the sounds you get from fingers style verses pick on a bass. Some people feel it's faster to use a pick but form my experience that is only he case if you can use a double back picking motion. my bass instructor told me that in general people who played with a pick were bass guitarists but people who play with fingers are bassists. I know several bass players who were guitarists before picking up the instrument. Their style always strikes me as different, like their approach is a lot different from mine. They're good at what they do but it just doesn't feel the same to me. Ale's technique is extremely technical. She was well trained in her scales and several styles. Her approach is much more like a jazz musician, which is;t a bad thing. She uses the entire neck, shifting octaves at times to fill in the midrange, which is important as she is compensating a lot for there not being a rhythm guitarist in the band.

    The Warning song *"ANIMOSITY"* was the first song that the bass line was written to play with a pick. Their other song *"Error"* where Ale plays with her fingers & a pick.

      You can see her in the "Error" video from Teatro Metropolitan throwing her pick away at some point, then coming back to it after the "finger part". She uses what the song needs, and is VERY good at it ;-)

      There's a video of her playing Error live where you can see how she hides the pick in her hand when playing with fingers and then smoothly switches back to pick on the fly. It's like a magic trick, lol.

    I love the journey you are taking as of now, I love seeing the first time reactions of these sounds and videos. The pick, no pick bass playing idea, I'm no expert but this is my understanding. Most rock bass players use a pick because they are just there to lay the low end and just to keep the song moving along and in rhythm, it's almost like they aren't even there and never get noticed. The no pick is used more in classical and jazz type of music where the bass player is actually playing all the notes. Listening to most of The Warning songs you can hear Ale playing most of the notes and it is awesome sounding; it adds another layer to the music. IMO Ale is so underrated and is actually my favorite in the band. Go listen to some isolation sounds of her bass playing and you'll be amazed!

    Also, clearly, these young ladies are just as entertaining off the stage as they are on it. They have released some behind the scenes videos from their European tour which are well worth watching and reacting to as well. Pau is absolutely hilarious and as confident as she is, she also shows some nervous vulnerability.. in a fun way.

    Another great thing to watch if you want to see their chemistry together is their “Official Quarantine Show” from The Cave, obviously during the pandemic.
    It may be too long to react to but you should watch it at least for your own knowledge. It was recorded on their iPhones but the sound is actually really good.
    You haven’t seen Ale sing lead yet I don’t believe and she takes the lead on Red Hands Never Fade and shares the lead with Dany on Hunter (both songs are from Queen of the Murder Scene). This show was from before their album Error was released so it features their work to that point. You also get to see the Dany Dance…lol.

    If you like long interviews with the band and how they interact with each other, their likes and dislikes, their sisterhood and how touring with other bands is like plus a lot more I would recommend the Allison Hagendorf interview of them. It is about an hour long, but you get to see how they interact with each other. I know it is a longer video, but it is so good. Would be cool if you could react to it. Maybe split it up if it is too long for a complete video.

  • @jamessummerlin9516
    @jamessummerlin9516 9 месяцев назад +6

    I’ve been a bassist for more than 40 years, the pick gives a sharper attack and harder more articulate response generally being better when you’re looking for cleaner, faster, harder edge sound. Playing with your fingers gives a more tactile, softer response which I find better for putting more feeling into the song. There is slap and pop that can be done with the fingers as well that gives a less homogeneous effect than allows some notes to stand out more than others giving a less smooth more textured soundscape. Some bassist and listeners get hung up on one form over the other, but I’ve found the song should drive your choice, versatility makes a better overall bassist and while you’ll always wind up being better at one more than the other it’s better to at least have a nodding familiarity with the others. Ale and Misa of Band Maid use both pick and finger styles and this goes to show why they are very good at what they do.

  • @markspencer3680
    @markspencer3680 9 месяцев назад +2

    You get a different sound with a pick I would imagine. Ale now uses a pick in several songs. Animosity, I think 23 and she switches from fingers to pick in Error. She uses pick in their newest song. So I think it’s a sound thing. I’ve seen other bassist switch also.

    I’m not a bass player either but I’m a huge fan of both Ale and Daisy Pepper, who usually covers The Warning the day after they’ve released a new hit!
    However, I know Ale plays Spector’s with active pickups versus Daisy, who prefers passive pickups.
    If you listen to Her covers, she generally uses the same bass as Ale but it’ll have a softer tone due to the difference between pickups.
    I feel that because Ale preferred active pickups, the tone is closer to using a pick as it has a boosted element.

    Playing with a pick gives a different tone. Some punk songs sound better with pick than with fingers, for example. But there are sooooo many bassists who have no idea how to play fingerstyle at all. They are usually former guitarists who were relegated to the bass rather than natural bass players, and you can tell in how boring their basslines are. Ale does a good job of serving the song while knowing when to stand out.
    My daughter started bass at 6, with the same Ibanez Mikro as Ale. It's the smallest on the market at 28 inches. A short scale is usually 30 inches, which is the Fender Mustang and other similar basses. My daughter is now 9, and is just starting to use her full scale Jazz bass (34 inches) more often. She can reach the first frets no problem, but songs with a lot of movement give her spacing issues with her small hands, and jumping around on stage is harder because of the weight.

Their after show videos are pretty good. They show them before going on and also after. Plus they take petunia ( video camera) and see the sights on the road. I'd stick with the Teatro Met til you're done then head back for some earlier content there's a ton. Honestly, I think it really helped them out being an all sister band, though. I know they felt the skepticism especially when they were kids taking the stage at rock festivals (let's be honest, if you paid money to go to stand in the Mexican heat to hear rock and metal bands and then a band that looked like a gradeschool talent show walked onto the stage, you'd be skeptical at first, too - at least, I know I would be). But at least that made them stand out. Ya, they had to prove themselves, but it's way less of a problem than having to overcome indifference in my opinion - when people expect you to potentially suck, if you can even put on a decent show, you'll earn some fans, but if you look like a generic rock band, you'll really have to blow the doors off the place to stand out.
