+LeeSa Your right. It already feels like a lonelier place. The only conselation and it's a great one, we have his music. His spirit definitely lives there. Don't know about the "soul" where it went or didn't go. Whether it was the absolute end or just another beginning-who knows.
I love how David Bowie backs up a little and accompanies Robert Smith during one of the song's verses. Also, what a great duet of Quicksand, I love these guys and their music.
Exactly , very generous of Bowie , I'm surprised Robert even did that well , nice little surprise finding this , but one track as duet is enough don't you think .
29.10.22 To the norwegien guy i met yesterday on the the cure concert in munich who told me to watch this vid. Im so sorry i couldnt say goodbye! It was so awesome that you visited Munich with your two suns for the concert. It was great that we met!
no, no, I know who Robert Smith is (laughing). I just mean that HE idolizes bowie as much as anyone, yes he's a real pro, I guess. PS I wrote this before I knew of DB's passing, there's a lot of tears in my house today.
David Bowie arrived 1/8/1947 - BlackStar arrived 1/10/2016 Isn't it strange that when there is someone you've never met before passes, you can still feel such a loss. ….Even though we never met, David stayed up with me many a lonely night over the last 45 years - making my bad days better - my nights brighter, all while making me a better musician. ...What a talent. - What a career. - What a loss. - What a soul and thank you for sharing it and thanks for touching mine. -J.D.Gragg - - - We all know there is a footprint on the Moon - now we know there is one on Mars, David Bowie's.
This is such a hidden gem of a song off the great "hunky dory" album.. Fantastic duet with Robert Smith.. Just look at his face at the end.. Such a privilege to play with Bowie.. Awesome.
Didn't know Bowie performed this tune in the 90's. Now and then he would surprise us by pulling one out from years ago. It was always a treat. Of course, he always ignored requests for the Laughing Gnome.
+Tony Martin Yeh, there's some great stuff on here from the '90s Bowie- the absolute peak of his live career. Mike Garson, Reeves Gabrels, Gail ann dorsey, carlos alomar, and others whom I cant' recall their names for some reason. Contributed to the best Rock n Roll career ever. Sucks that he's gone. Cancer robbed us of at least 10 years of Bowie. What else can you say?!
All those artists who shared stage with Bowie, especially Smith, Reznor, ArcadeFire, Lou Reed etc. What a privilege and what an excellent performances. I love it!
+Chris Hynes I love I Am the Walrus. Fucked if I know what it's about though. Quicksand is supposedly about Hitler's final moments in his bunker (that's one story, anyway), but I don't know that knowing that is at all essential to appreciating the song.
This track was played at my uncles funeral in 1990! and ashes to ashes! My uncle was the biggest Bowie fan i have ever known or seen along with his twin sister and older brother! Both my uncle and aunt are now not here! I miss them both and they both got me into Bowie years ago! and also Kate Bush and pink Floyd! Every time I hear this song i think of Craig my uncle and dear friend! Bless you keg and Virginia xx
Shame to say I just recently heard this for the first time. Needless to say it has become one I've played almost every day since, along with All the Madmen. The chorus is a beautiful and complete summary of one's ideal Life's Philosophy.
I suffered through years of my friends being Bowie fans. I ADMIT THE MAN IS AWESOME.. but he never spoke to me.. but Robert Smith knows my heart, knows my soul know eerything that makes me tick.. knows how to lift me up, knows how to crush me.... thank you Robert Smith... and u2 dave
Yes, he opened with Quicksand in Malmö, Sweden, 97, small venue, 12-string guitar, open air, one of his greatest songs, "knowledge comes with death's release", i was at the front, lovely and great. My man. Laughing Gnome anyone? I met my wife for 20 years because of that song, hihihi ...
The influence of David Bowie's music over the last nearly 50 years before his death and his innovative, chameleon ability to be so versatile and not merely change with the times but be a catalyst of the changing times will be heard and seen by generations of the past, present and future surely cannot and should not be denied. His star in the sky will shine brightly through the ages right next to the stars that were his inspiration. (and still inspire musicians to this day) And when the next great innovator and influence over current and future music takes his or her place as a star in the sky and joins them, Bowie will be one of the first to make a place for them and say either, "I'm glad we got to play together." OR "I wish we could have played together." I would much rather talk about how great it is to watch and hear Bowie and Robert Smith together. I'm pretty sure Bowie would want that too.
i love you david bowie....you blew me away as a young girl....ill never forget you...part of me died with you...as it did with millions around the world....you were so special...thankyou for everything x
This brought me to tears, especially considering today's events. Though I feel like a part of me vanished forever at the news and I wish I was old enough to have had the opportunity to see such a legend live, I am supremely and eternally grateful for the opportunity to see Robert in November. It makes me feel closer to the music history I couldn't live first-hand.
Where was I when this shit was going down? How did I not know about it? Why wasn't I spending every dime I had to get there? Thank the gods for youtube.
am fighting back the tears. wish I'd had the chance to tell him how much pleasure he's given me over the past 45 years. And I always loved the Cure too. This is just tooooo good!!
Two rock and roll enigmas right there. They both chose a path and stayed on it. They did not take the easy route, thats for sure. Especially Bowie. He must have endured a shit ton of ridicule and ignorance because of his outlandish appearance in the early '70s. Especially in Southern and Midwestern America.
Both brilliant but unfortunately both carried on long after they ran out of good ideas. And before you start I went from Bowie to The Cure, total obsessive & consequently was gutted when they 'lost it.'
Bomba Seven well, yes. Some people either don't know when to call it quits, or they try to quit and find they don't know any ither way of life than performing. I won't knock them for that. I think it's the same mentality that got them where they are in the first place. Unwillingness to compromise and guts and perseverance. What else can they do besides watch tv all day and mow the lawn once a week.
Bomba Seven I completely disagree with you...when exactly did you think Bowie ran out of ideas, I wonder? If he had stopped in the mid 80s, I may have agreed with that comment. But he restored any doubt with the release of Outside and kept it fresh from then on.
This birthday concert is what finally made me a fan. I liked a lot of his songs peripherally (many without even realizing they were his at the time), but this live show left me with an insatiable need to consume anything I could find from him. The show was amazing and I only wish I could have been there rather than watching it on PPV. For years I kept wishing they would release it on Blu-ray or DVD and on CD. I found less-than-official copies, but I would still like to see an actual release.
Bowie looks like a villain from a cheesy 80's superhero show in this. And I wouldn't change it for the world. What an absolute legend.
That cinema style inspires on Bowie, not reverse
When I look up “legend” in my Oxford Dictionary, it just plays this! It makes perfect sense!
He's the don.
All the clothes he’s wearing in this concert ( and also the British coat from the cover Of Earthling) are designed by Alexander McQueen).
One of the first anti-heroes
They should've done a whole album of Cure & Bowie duets. Amazing harmony together.
Too late
Too much Ego on both sides I think 😆
I agree completely.
I mean , I agree, they should have done and album.
I really feel for Robert, I know Bowie was his musical hero.
May you rest in peace David, this world won't be the same without you.
+LeeSa Your right. It already feels like a lonelier place. The only conselation and it's a great one, we have his music. His spirit definitely lives there. Don't know about the "soul" where it went or didn't go. Whether it was the absolute end or just another beginning-who knows.
Hero
The little smile David gives Robert just before the 4:00 mark is what keeps me going
In what part? Bowies voice is not most powerful than Smith voice
29.10.22 To the norwegien guy i met yesterday on the the cure concert in munich who told me to watch this vid. Im so sorry i couldnt say goodbye! It was so awesome that you visited Munich with your two suns for the concert. It was great that we met!
How is Robert Smith even doing this? Seriously, I think my voice would choke up cos of the tears.
+Liora P It's Robert Smith. He is at the same level as David Bowie. RIP David.
no, no, I know who Robert Smith is (laughing). I just mean that HE idolizes bowie as much as anyone, yes he's a real pro, I guess. PS I wrote this before I knew of DB's passing, there's a lot of tears in my house today.
+Carlos Marxo I adore Robert Smith but he's FAR from the same level as David Bowie.
+DrusillaDarko They are apples and oranges. Nonetheless, David Bowie was a huge influence for him altogether Jimi Hendrix.
+DrusillaDarko Not at all.
Two of my favourite people in one place :D
My dad adores The Cure as much as I adore The Thin White Duke!
My two absolute favorites together. This is epic❤
David Bowie arrived 1/8/1947 - BlackStar arrived 1/10/2016

best performance of the whole show. their voices together were stunning. I love both and didn't expect it to sound this amazing.
This is such a hidden gem of a song off the great "hunky dory" album.. Fantastic duet with Robert Smith.. Just look at his face at the end.. Such a privilege to play with Bowie.. Awesome.
That's one of the biggest smiles I've ever seen on Robert. Aw.
...that smile at the end.
I'm crying. This is the best 5 minute ever for me.
i'm in awe of how PERFECT Robert's voice is for this song
Didn't know Bowie performed this tune in the 90's. Now and then he would surprise us by pulling one out from years ago. It was always a treat. Of course, he always ignored requests for the Laughing Gnome.
+Tony Martin he didn't - Smith suggested they sing this
+Tony Martin He should've invited Ronnie Corbett to do The Laughing Gnome with him LOL.
+wee wudgie Yep!!!! His debut album is GREAT. Also, "Let me Sleep beside You" is a TOP TUNE.
+Tony Martin wow, I didn't know that David did this song with Robert either.David did like to surprise us a bit! R.I.P. David
OH BOY! these two are such genious separately! see them together is pure joy, pure magic!
If only they were naked.
this is the most important video of the whole world wide web
What perfect harmony . . . two legends, throwing away ego and sharing the stage perfectly.
All those artists who shared stage with Bowie, especially Smith, Reznor, ArcadeFire, Lou Reed etc. What a privilege and what an excellent performances. I love it!
Absolutely amazing, one of the greatest and at the same time Most underrated songs of Bowie's catalogue
I have seen the whole concert and I must say it was wonderful, Bowie singing with Smith, Lou Reed, Foo Fighter…
Best performance from that night IMO
Two of the absolute best.
robert has such a gorgeous smile
I LOVE this duet. Total magic
what kind of people don't like this its lovely
this is a SONG this is MUSIC
-sigh-
they can suffer v.v
One of Bowie's best songs.
Do you understand the essence of this song and what is about?
+Chris Hynes What kind of question is that?
curious to know if one understands the meaning of the song when claiming it to be one of Bowie's best....thats all...quite simple really
+Chris Hynes I love I Am the Walrus. Fucked if I know what it's about though. Quicksand is supposedly about Hitler's final moments in his bunker (that's one story, anyway), but I don't know that knowing that is at all essential to appreciating the song.
+Kobbe occult
I think Robert Smith was (is?) a Bowie's fan admirer and i'm a Robert Smith's fan admirer too! This song suite him so well!!
khr rss yep you’re right Bowie is Roberts idol x
@@rachaelwebb9906 Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars was the first vinyl Robert Smith ever bought.

63 year old Bowie fan
Saw Holy Holy with Tony Visconti at The Barbican
They sung this.
I cried.

I’m sitting here watching this whilst wearing a Bowie sweatshirt. I miss that man so much - he was part of my life. Til I see you again starman.
by the gods, this song is beautiful. it makes my heart hurt and soar at the same time. I miss you Bowie
Two of the most beautiful creations.
THIS GOES TO MY BROTHER WHOM I LOST A WK AGO SEE YOU IN THE END R.I.P MATT

This is one of my favorite Bowie Songs.. A jewel off of Hunky Dory,, I always seem to like the little obscure songs Bowie does...
So provocative, so mysterious, such writing.
Absolutely brilliant both of them x
This song, this duet: pure magic. It’s so beautiful that brings me to tears.

Simply superb! Guitar on " A Forest" by the Cure reminds me of one of the tracks on Bowie's new Black Star album ....
2 of the most unique voices- 2 of the most brilliant music minds
They sound amazing together. #RIP
Beautiful song, beautiful men! Ahhhhh! :D

Missing you in 2021. Happy Birthday,David.💌
Incredible performers, incredible men
What an amazing performance.
That was perfection!
What beautiful voices... wow.
ohhh jeez what a smile...im crying like a baby.
I love that Bowie always kept a 12-string acoustic handy and often performed with one (as here). You just don't see them much these days.
'And I'm living on'...
He is.
