  • Conor Harris discussed chronic pain in a video. As a physio I watched the video and react to some of the points he makes about specific exercises for chronic pain.
    Chronic pain is a condition that cannot be easily simplified and I think the message on RUclips can often create more problems than it solves.
    In the video I discuss the chronic pain research and why we cannot think of the human body as a car or machine that has predictable inputs and outputs.

    I consulted 2 spine specialists and 3 physiotherapists after my back injury. It started as right glute pain then eventually grew into back pain and then one day I was on bed. None of those professionals were able to diagnose it properly. They labelled it as SI joint stress, Piriformis syndrome, QL spasm etc etc because their text book assessment didn't show any symptoms of disc injury until I requested to the the last spinal specialist that for an MRI scan and he agreed. And it turned out to be L5SI protrusion/tear. The physio therapy didn't help. Doctor's suggestion was to go for a surgery. I was depressed cause i couldn't exercise, i couldn't sleep, and i had to leave my job. I was teaching Pilates.
    Then I stumbled upon PRI. Few weeks of rehab work based on PRI techniques my pain was gone. After 2 years of self treatment with PRI techniques I am back to exercising and back to teaching Pilates.
    Thanks to the podcasts of Conor Haris and Neal Hallinan.
    So please, open your mind to new ideas and stop criticising.

      @@jose-nb1ye it worked for me when nothing else was giving me any relief. What Connor Harris says makes 100 percent sense to me. Especially when I am teaching my clients and it is giving me the results. I am a Pilates instructor and I translate his theories into my method whenever I see these issues in their bodies and it works. And many of the exercises he shows here are available in Pilates choreography but how I used to approach it was different earlier. Now I started looking through a different prism after following Connor Harris and it definitely gives me what I am looking for in an individual's body. Yes there is a lot of resistance to this whole PRI theory because it is not largely known and it is not addressed by these professionals like physiotherapists and spine specialists. But I don't care anymore. It's their loss.

    Hey there. Australian physio myself. I have had chronic low back and hip oain for years. I also consider myself an evudence based practitioner. I have consulted with excellent clinicians and done extensive graded activity.
    Frankly, i dont give a fuck what the evidence says here. The PRI guys are on to something and I'm not waiting for a meta to implement. Conner isnt doing ridiculous expensive stuff either, 40 bucks for the beginner program and it worth every cent.

    You’re not quite getting what Conor is saying. He’s not saying these deviations are absolutes; there will always be variances in each person.
    But we do know the body will counterbalance itself in order to stay upright against gravity. A shift of the hips one way will most commonly lead to a shift of the ribs in the opposite direction. This is due to the proprioceptive system and the vestibular system keeping you upright.

    • @Martinphysioperformance
      @Martinphysioperformance Год назад

      99.999% of people have deviations from one side of the body. It’s not linked to pain, or else every single person in the world would have pain.

    • @Humanbodymentorshipacademy
      @Humanbodymentorshipacademy Год назад +2

      @@Martinphysioperformance nobody said it was directly linked to pain. Pain is a sensation sent by the brain to an area to provide an unpleasant stimulus to notify you of a problem in a certain area

      @@MartinphysioperformanceI'm here to tell you that you are wrong. When deviations get to a certain progression, they can cause severe pain. PRI is the science of studying the common deviation patterns, and PRI changed my life when 15+ medical doctors could not.

    Yep, the way to fix chronic pain is to just….think to yourself that it’s not that bad LOL. Why waste your time trying to find therapists who actually try to understand complex compensation patterns when you can just act cool saying “posture and pain aren’t correlated”, even though everyone who’s been down the rabbit hole of trying to get better has seen that shit 1000 times. Conor Harris constantly emphasizes that posture is a poor predictor of pain, so restoring movement is the best bet for improving pain perception.

    Well he starts by showing Conor saying "if your jaw is deviated it MAY cause these other issues" so he would check it out. This guy then says "that's not guaranteed". But Conor never said it was guaranteed. He said it may be a factor and it bears looking at.
    Also, the idea this guy is suggesting, around 3:45, is that Conor believes one exercise will fix everything. It's a ludicrous accusation and a strawman argument. Conor doesn't believe that so no reason to debunk it.
    Then this guy says that there is no evidence that dental situations might affect the rest of your posture. As someone who has lived through this directly, years before I ever heard of Conor Harris, I find this kind of video irresponsible. Someone like me might have watched this and simply parroted "not evidence based" and never improved my bite and, therefore, my neck and more long range problems. That is irresponsible advice and I can only suspect it's for clicks and views more than it is to help people.
    Then this guy goes on to say "there is no evidence that we need to be this specific" in addressing pain. At this point I stopped watching. Conor never said "guys, you need to be this specific". He said "let me show you something I've had success with with my patients". And instead of being honest and saying "I'm sure many patients would indeed improve from an exercise like this, and many others might not" (which is true of ANYTHING ON EARTH) he says "there is no evidence you NEED to be this specific".
    Well, if I said "I can't pay my mortgage" and someone said "If you come work for me I'll pay you $200k annually" and some guy marched along and said "guys, there's no evidence that he NEEDS a salary of $200k to pay his mortgage" I'd agree that the statement was correct - there is indeed no evidence that I need a $200k salary to pay my mortgage. He's right. Then I'd get rid of that guy and apply for the job. His commentary may be "technically correct" but it's also useless and MIGHT even detract from someone getting something that helps them.
    It's irresponsible.
    We're all different and there are a nearly infinite amount of variations on how each body might react to any given stimuli. If YOU have chronic pain I would personally suggest you check out Conor's channel. I've gotten a great deal of persisting relief from chronic pain from it. More than from anything else with the POSSIBLE exception of somatics. I've struggled with chronic pain for decades and been to countless practitioners and watched and tried countless exercises and programs from countless RUclips channels and online courses. Conor's channel is as legit as it gets. And this channel, at least from this video, APPEARS to be clickbait. I haven't watched any other videos from this channel, so maybe it has good content. But this video is absolutely not good content.
    Anyone can make a video that imparts the lesson "there is no evidence that any one thing is necessary". You don't even need to be a bodywork practitioner to make a video like this. I can pull up any video on anything in the world and say "there is no evidence you NEED to do this", lol. We NEED to breathe to live. We need to eat (according to most people, anyway), and we need to drink. You could argue we don't NEED anything else in life. It's a waste of time to listen to someone saying this.
    This is a clickbait video so far. Shame on you, Phsyio Plus Fitness!
    Btw, I'm in no way affiliated with Conor Harris. But I've gotten more relief per minute of his content than anyone else on RUclips, and I've gotten lots of relief from RUclips videos. Conor is a cut above - check out his channel!

      I agree with you and have just recently found site and Conor posts.
      Up until about 8 months ago I was in fairly active state, running and then I started to get plantar fasciitis in right foot and some tenderness in top right ankle. I had PF before but this time it didn’t seem to work it’s way out so went to Ortho Doc, took XRay and said “ nothing broken” and diagnosed as Tendinitis with PT. It took awhile but this eventually resolved…however, these symptoms moved to left ankle and leg - intermittent electrifying pains in left ankle and calf seems worse lying down and so bad that we did MRI foot and ankle which was fairly unremarkable and showed some peroneal tendinitis and again PT but not getting better and pain seems to be worse and is now including foot, calf, thigh and buttocks ? My primary Doc has no idea and I am going to see another Doc this week for another evaluation. Have you guys gotten MRIs to confirm your issues? I am considering am MRI left foot, leg and buttocks area to see if we can figure out what is going on- is it sciatica with peroneal or ?? This is painful, can’t walk and looking for resolution or is it degenerative disease or?
      Frustrating, no sleep and trying not to abuse pain meds - ibuprofen, gabapentin etc. Any suggestions? Is there any way to reach out to Conor! Thanks for listening.

    As someone in the physiotherapy field I wish people would have a better understanding of an individual's qualifications before believing them. Conor Harris has often been wrongly identified by viewers as being a physical therapist, when in actuality he does not openly disclose his qualifications on amy platform. However, at some point I recall him being a strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer with a BS kinesiology. Therefore, hes not a medical professional, so all his advice should be taken with a grain of salt and all viewers should consult a physiotherapist for proper evaluation.

      3 licenced physiotherapists couldn't even recognise that I had a disc protrusion. Even after the diagnosis they couldn't help me with any routine to relieve my pain. So these so-called credentials don't work for many of us. Apart from spending all that hard earned money we get no help. After understanding the PRI techniques and following Connor Harris I worked my way to being a practitioner and teacher in Pilates. Now I can exercise consistently and efficiently without getting any kind of pain or muscle spasm IF I am sticking to PRI theory. Not otherwise.

      physio here. No matter how much I agree that someone without a medical license should not give medical advice, when so many people in comments section saying how much Connor's advice has helped them relieve their chronic pain when no other medical professionals they visited have been able to, one must re-think about our profession and our supposedly medical knowledged. Despite all comments being anecdotes, but the fact his channels gain such HUGE following, and that is not something easily achieved. You can talk all the crap you want, but if you can bring results, since all people CARE about is results i.e. pain relief, then I don't think you can be really against someone who helped more people than you as a medical professional have. Besides, his advice are merely just advice, he never claimed if it guarantees pain-free, so why don't someone give his advice a try? if it doesn't work, then go find someone else who can?

    Connor's thinking seems to imply a tremendous amount of fragility in the body that doesn't check out. Adaptive, succesful, non patholological muscular compensation for deviations are real. The focus on posture doesn't always check out.

    Just a heads up... you probably know this, but Conor is just speaking in generalities. Your rebuddle, especially towards the beginning of the video is nitpicking and providing conjecture to a video in which Conor doesn't have the opportunity to defend his position on these points. Generally Conor is correct, you are just expanding on his concepts.

      Are you suggesting that imbalances can NOT cause pain? Lol, think it over. The answer is obvious. There are tons of humans who live life in pain caused by imbalances and tons of humans who have removed pain by balancing different systems of the musculature or body. Nobody said "only deviations can cause pain and all deviations cause pain". But it's a self-evidence fact that imbalances DO cause pain for many ppl. Possibly most ppl with chronic muscular pain.

    • @mailsandymurali
      @mailsandymurali Месяц назад

      The problem is none of the professional doctors or physios address this issue. They never tell us that the human body is asymmetrical. I heard it for the first time from these PRI podcasts. We all address our pain and approach the treatment from this premises that the human body is symmetrical. That means we are already starting from the wrong premises. Of course we always talk about muscle imbalances. But that's not what PRI says. It talks about a structural imbalance.
