Makes me glad to see Lawrie's channel grow from a man who loves trains and talks about them to a whole goup of people who love trains and actually play an integral part in not only saving some trains, but helping out whole railroads! Quite the arc. But if i had one thing to add, i would higly recommend placing a well-stocked toolbox under the bench in a sturdy bracket, a folding saw, wrench and a crowbar sound like excellent tools to always have on such a verhicle!
It looks like it has that really satisfying feeling that you can see the ground moving underneath you at some rate, but its still taking a while. You can really see the progress being made.
Hey lawrie! If you would like to see some narrow gauge drezyny, i would recommend seeing the Bieszczadzka kolejka leśna station Nowy łupków. The station has been abandoned from the 90s, but it was restored and now the mostly abandoned line is being restored. The operational part of the railway runs a few diesels, 2 steam locomotives and a very nice little Museum. I would love to see you go there :)
No, sadly I'm not involved. I went there once last summer. However, they will be most likely active in the spring-summer times. Especially between 1-3 of may, we have a holiday in Poland, and from what I've seen on RUclips, the are always there at that time
A couple of years ago, I saw a narrow gauge line somewhere in Europe. There were spots washed out and crossings paved over, but it was great to watch converted micro cars running the line. I wish that I knew where it was.
This was beautiful, i'd love to do something like this too. Only thing the video was missing was the "firing up" process involving Lawrie just eating a sandwich
LMM Crew you may want to build or buy a lighter version (150 lbs) such as the 3 wheel Rail Velocipede. They were used on many railroads here in North America and Worldwide for track inspection and maintenance. BTW, next time take your Still chain saw with you!
You're a very privileged person to get to do what you do. Most like me in the states can't afford much of anything due to the economy and other reasons. Don't know enough of the UK to say anything of the situation there, but it's for sure you're very privileged to have all these opportunities to have all these great experiences. Very wonderful video, and I do wish you a very safe day.
I wonder if some branch lines could be reopened as commuter lines using modified versions of the beer bikes you see in a lot of cities. You could even keep the beer..... 🙂
I wonder what locomotive or locomotives it will have later... like it already has the bike rail thing and to know that the country which im from has a line next to the mainline is cool.
It might be now. Diesel is much cheaper to run than steam. At least they left the track in place so a train could still be run on it if needed in the future.
This is cool, but after pedaling that long I would most likely be taking painkillers for a few days. Also, isn't the narrow-gauge railway in Sroda also officially closed and only used for tourist trains? They have steam engines though.
I feel like it wouldn't be too hard to replace like an electric or race bike's wheels with some train wheels and actually get some speed as well as more relaxed gear ratios when following the principle of once its in motion it should require less power just like with an actual train. The jack is pretty ingenious, I've seen a few US based rail vehicles but none had a jack like this.
could even combine them like they do with some modern e-bikes, where the motor provides assisted power while pedaling, though I can't really imagine the power required for something do this weight
Good luck to them. Remember folks - if you need another excuse to do this, every Euro you spend helps these guys create railway preservation as a thing in Poland.
As good as these projects seem, and as happy as i want to be, lets be real, the PKP will rip up the rails cuz 'Uhh, according to section 6429A, paragraph 5, word 1, the.' and just rip up the rails like they did with the Chabówka Branchline, as i call it, or the Railway line No. 104. I do wish them success, but because this is Poland, i don't think much good will happen until SKPL or a company comes in with help.
@@lmm Obviously, yeah. There's a similar thing around area of the Bieszczady mountain range, formerly part of the Bieszczady Forestry/Forest Railway. The railway does operate, still, but part of the line is now dresine-run.
@@lmm We had the same thing alongside the attempted preservation of the railway here, though, obviously that failed, and any attempts at making the railway come back, is bordering on impossible.
all that is missing is a Fireman shoveling Bacon Butties into the Engine(s) .. lol
We should have taken a picnic!
Here's wishing for Poland's heritage railway scene the most success!
Yes indeed! Hopefully the start of something great
This feels like it needs an annual time trial event. The Tim Traveller would definitely come and make a video about it.
Oh that's an amazing idea!
13:54 new thing added to my bucket list, ride on a little man propelled train, next to a big full size train!
It was a pretty amazing experience
Well, you can't get much more environmentally-friendly than that! What great fun... but carry a bow saw on your next visit!
Yes, we thought that.
There's several properly closed lines that we'd love to explore with something like this
A log saw, coffee maker and gears would be helpful. Great fun. Thank you.
Yes they would!
Oh I love it! We have similar vehicles on some heritage railways in France, we call them “vélorails” (rail-bicycles)
I'll have to look out for one!
The most abandoned thing here is the chain at 3:47 😮
I watched it back in the edit and wondered how much harder that made it!
Probably a lot. That chain is VERY rusty. If you come here again, bring some oil with you.
I can't understand why they make the effort to build such a vehicle and nobody cares enough to take the minute to oil it up every few months.
How both crazy and intimidating it must be to go through a crossing adjacent to the mainline! The passengers must have been so confused!
It was quite surreal

It's been mad hasn't it!
And yes! It certainly needs a toolbox
It looks like it has that really satisfying feeling that you can see the ground moving underneath you at some rate, but its still taking a while. You can really see the progress being made.
It was amazingly good fun
Had a smile on my face for the entire video, this was brilliant! Well done to all involved!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hands up I want to have a go, looks like a right laugh; but also keeping a line in some sort of service
As always great content
It's great to see it being used for something
What an incredible way to see the railway. Stunning scenery too.
It's a real pretty line!
This was so fun, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone whose in the area
Thanks for making it happen
Certainly a unique episode of LGL😂.
Great video, Lawrie 👍.
Glad you enjoyed it
The best and funniest thing I've ever seen on LMM.
Pleased you enjoyed it
9:00 Never leave the depot without a chainsaw!
Probably a wise idea 😂
Somehow i don't think a chain saw (or any saw) would be allowed on the plane.

@iwostrains I'll have to investigate
Epic Lawrie absolutely epic. 🤣. I do hope they gain the support they need to make it a successful heritage line. 👍.
Me too!

Sounds interesting wherever it was!
What a genuine delight! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a polish person, I approve.
Excellent!
Thank you Lawrie, what a great outing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Happy new year Lawrie 🎉 And hope you had a great Christmas time.
Same to you!
This was beautiful, i'd love to do something like this too. Only thing the video was missing was the "firing up" process involving Lawrie just eating a sandwich
I missed a trick!
Awesome!
Glad you think so!
Great video I have watched videos where people have made ones like that and went out exploring !
Always been a dream of mine

I've had a go on the Velocipede before. They're good fun.
Long have we thought of building something!

I'm hugely privileged to be able to run the channel - but it's not been without huge sacrifices.
We've got that in Austria too. There is one draisine line at Ernstbrunn and another one somewhere in the Ybbstal.
Oh really? I'll have to visit
That just looks loke so much fun 🙂
It absolutely was!

Everyone would be knackered before they got to work!
Come to canada, we have so many abandoned railroads and pedal carts like these!
I really must
How did you prepare the engine and what does it run on? Also Is it powerful enough to haul anything?
If you noticed one engine was in far better condition than the other!
One kept konking out
@lmm didn't sound like there was any misfires either.
Hoboi, theres a *lot* of trees growing in the gauge. Best of luck to the project.
To be fair, we went in winter when the place is normally closed.
They do more maintenance during the warmer months
Quite a work out
The best thing was we could set our own pace
@lmm true
i've been on these before in france, they call them a Vello Rail, a fun way to do a heritage railway IMO
Very much so!
@lmm the only disappointing bit was we didn't get to see you firing up the engine (eating a bag of crisps) 🤣
@Hitperson Should have had a seen of waking James up
@@lmm 🤣🤣🤣
Please can you bring this back with you next time? We'd like one.
Be hard work out the colliery!

Apparently there are some diesels down the line
Where did this line used to to go from/to? When was it abandoned?
It ran from Grodzisk Wielkopolski to Kościan.
I assume it closed due to it not being cost effective to run.
It might be now. Diesel is much cheaper to run than steam. At least they left the track in place so a train could still be run on it if needed in the future.
I was hoping to see you get your oil can out on that chain!
Did really need it!
great shafe
Thanks!
It is cold day today
It was then too

The best thing about it was we set our own pace which helped.
There is a a bit of narrow guage heritage, standard guage is much less common
Rail Biking is not unusual in many parts of the world. I went rail biking in the Ardennes in Belgium several years ago.
I've seen it in a few places like NZ. Never actually done it
I feel like it wouldn't be too hard to replace like an electric or race bike's wheels with some train wheels and actually get some speed as well as more relaxed gear ratios when following the principle of once its in motion it should require less power just like with an actual train.

Yeah, making a motorised one wouldn't be too hard
could even combine them like they do with some modern e-bikes, where the motor provides assisted power while pedaling, though I can't really imagine the power required for something do this weight
Good luck to them. Remember folks - if you need another excuse to do this, every Euro you spend helps these guys create railway preservation as a thing in Poland.

@@lmm Exactly!
Why does it actually sound like a real steam locomotive as it goes past
It's got a good clatter!

You are so close.
that poor chain is so dry
I noticed when going through the footage. I wonder how much harder that made things!
They could do with a railcar
Yes, that would be great.

idk man, looks like a bike to me
@@meniscus3500 Technically, it's a quadricycle, the bi in bicycle means 2 wheels, this has 4
Is it two bicycles stabilised by each other? Each has two wheels on the rail?
@lmm I guess you could consider it this way.... Have you also considered.....(I'll tell you on discord 😁 )
Practice a bit more on your straight face, and this one is excellent for March 32nd.
I did think about that!
first,just saw the upload
Good job!
I experienced something similar in France last year:
