@@lmm May I ask where the intro's background clip is from? Quite an odd mix of steam locos? I saw some probably Germans and the others seemed to be British(ish)?

I just have to say, I love the sound those tipper wagons make when they rattle and bang along. it's glorious! Also: a motor rail and a line of tipper wagons is just absolutely, perfectly industrial.
I just love those small diesels. I drove several at Bala in the 1990s. I mainly drove 'Indian Runner' and Lady Madcap there, as well as the larger BB loco (Western lookalike) Merionydd, with her large bus engine and power-boat controls (great seats too!!!). Great days!

It seems so long ago this was on. I was there on the Sunday and really enjoyed watching the locomotives on the field railway. Those peat wagons were trouble though as I must have seen them derail at least 3 times.
Have always been curious, what keeps being handed off and on when a train leaves the yard?! I notice a little padlock on em! Thanks, and amazing video as always!!
I don't know what the padlock is for but they are using the it in a token system. It is used on sections of track that have no passing loop. You are only allowed on that section of track if you have the token, there is only one token that way the trains can not crash into each other because if you haven't got a token you aren't going one that section of that track. Hopefully that helped I'm not great at explaining things 😋

In the very early days they built a lot of steam tractors and rollers as well as some small steam rail locomotives. Have a look at Ruston, Proctor and Co.
At most railways you need to be passed out as a passenger driver before you can drive a train with any passengers (this means training and exams). Its to cover all the legalities and insurance for any issues that should arise. I've been a volunteer fireman at apedale for a while.
