i have now finished! 139 episodes + 60 episodes - 1-2 sometimes 3 per day. It's taken a few months but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I realise a lot of it is fiction, but interwoven with the historical facts made it very absorbing. I have learnt something of Turkish history, have also been exploring video clips of sights around Turkey, learnt a few Turkish words. The costumes, music score, scenery, acting - all fabulous.

Teue, and this is true across history in many cultures, not just the Ottoman Empire. In Persian Queen Esther controlled her husband. We also have Queen Abigail and Queen Herodias who got John the Baptists head cut off despite the king Herod Antipas not wanting to do it. In UK, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth. Even when a King reigns, they want so bad to please their Queen, they'll do as they day. Women have been in power all throughout history.

The sultanate of women lasted from 1533 to 1656. To say that the sultans were ruled by their wives is ridiculous. Only Suleiman' was heavily influenced by his wife, but she did not rule him. Ahmed limited Kosem's role in his government. Many of the sultans were deeply influenced by their moms.

It was a great story about the power corrupting a one's soul, leading to the sins.
What I liked the most was Sultan Murad's story and character. Yes, he wasn't innocent, but I believe his mother killed him even more cruelly than Ibrahim.
And the worst thing about all of this is that Kösem, Murad, Safiye sinned for nothing, for the power that fades when you die and go away from this world...

Turhan was cruel and true evil. Kösem Sultan was only doing his duty as Valide Sultan. Everything Kösem Sultan did was not for power and authority. She only fulfilled her duty as Valide Sultan - until her last breath, she took care of the future and well-being of the Ottoman Empire and dynasty, and fought for the future of the state. When it comes to the future or welfare of the state, children and grandchildren cannot be spared. If necessary, children and grandchildren should be sacrificed in the name of the state. The future and well-being of the state is higher than children and grandchildren. Therefore, I understand and support Kösem Sultan's actions one hundred percent. Therefore, she is one of the greatest women in the history of the world. If I were Kösem Sultan, I would do exactly the same for the future and welfare of the state. Kösem was merciful, one of the magnificent women in all history. I just love her😍

Thanks to Kösem Sultan, her grandson, Saliha Dilaşub Sultan's son Süleyman was able to become the ruler. But the cruel tyrant and witch Turhan Sultan BURIED this grandson of hers and grandson Prince Ahmed (son of Hatice Muazzez Sultan) ALIVE AND NEVER ALLOWED THE MOTHERS TO SEE THEIR SONS, UNTIL THE ROBBER BOARD, BECAUSE SHE DELIGHTED TO TORTURE THESE SULTAN IBRAHIM'S LOVERS YEAR BY YEAR. And Kösem Sultan, on the contrary, as the regent of her grandson Saliha Dilaşub Sultan, allowed her to see her son, her grandson Prince Süleyman. Therefore, Kösem Sultan was and forever will be good, great, merciful. And Turhan Sultan will forever remain a cruel witch.

    • @augustasaudriusaleknaviciu5608
      @augustasaudriusaleknaviciu5608 2 месяца назад

Shouldn't Kösem Sultan have allowed his son Sultan Ibrahim, who was overthrown in August 1648, to remain alive and risk a rebellion, the streets turning into riots and the death of many people? Obviously not. It is better to be one victim - to sacrifice one's own child than to allow any rebellion to arise in the state. Kösem Sultan did this for the good of the state and if I were her, I would do exactly the same.

Kösem Sultana should've just gone to the Old Palace, retired and just die of old age. Perhaps she could've avoided such a cruel death. She was becoming too greedily and power hungry in her old age. Even Kemankeş started seeing the truth but he was madly in love, his heart couldn't stay away from his Sultana. But I give respect to her input in the ruling of the Dynasty.

Let's go where the real journey started. A girl (Anastasia)who was from another corner of the world.. Was loved by Sultan AHMED KHAN & brought into his Palace. Nasia wanted to escape but she already fell in love with Ahmed & returned to the palace....after many years,, she renamed her as kosem means leader, perfect etc. She gave Ahmed their first son Sehzade Mehmet then Ayse, Murad, Geverhan, Kasim, Ibrahim Atike &more.. She loved her step sons as her own children.. Raised them..
When Ahmed died, he gave her (k) a huge burden on her shoulder. Then Osman (step son),Mehmet, Bayezid,Murad,Kasim & Ibrahim died in front of her. 🫀
ACTUALLY, an old woman once said kosem that she will walk in Ember and she will be the witness of the death of her loved one🥺🫤.

Nurbanu and Turhan will also be the devil to me. Kosem should have step aside and respect her sons wishes, I blame her for what happened. If there is something I learnt from Suleiman power cannot over shadow power.
As for the real girls born as Sultanas only Mihiram deserve the title, other were just seeking love and relationships, sometimes you have to sacrifice for your loved ones so you can be powerful. Atike was very weak Mihiram would have made Turhan regret her existence just like she did with Nurubanu. I love Mihiram for not shaking hands with her mothers enemies, she never discuss her problems with others expect her those girls learnt nothing about being a Sultana than to fight for their betrayed love less life.

So is your take / opinion on this is about the show or real history?
      Historically speaking :
1 hurrem was extremely hated by all ottomans who called her a witch and wanted to execute her, especially the janissaries and they didn't even support her sons. Also she was literally the reason for the execution of two innocent people prince mustafa and grand vizier ibrahim.
2 kosem literally saved the empire during her first and 2nd regency, she restored Order, refilled the treasury, secured borders, rebuild fortresses and encouraged trade with venice and genoa. She was the only woman in ottoman history to be called THE MAGNIFICENT and she was really loved and respected.
Also she saved the empire by becoming regent to ibrahim who wasn't fit for ruling and by becoming regent for mehmed who was too young and even turhan was too young (only 22 when she was valide & inexperienced in politics)
3 mihrimah was powerful and rich but not the most powerful dynasty Sultana. The most powerful dynasty sultana is kosem's daughter ayse sultan, also kosem's other daughters geverhan, fatma, atike all were very powerful historically especially during thier mother's Regency.
And dilruba sultan was the ONKY dynasty sultana to be abke to put her son on the line of succession which was forbidden , can mihrimah do that? Dilruba and ayse and fatma are the only dynasty sultanas to do military work. While mihrimah only supported a rebellion financially.
4 historically nurbanu and mihrimah loved each other like sisters and they ruled the harem together during the first years of selim's reign, borh were given same status and equal title of "responsible of the sultan's harem" however nurbanu was selim's harem manager and she was his only women, he even asked her permission More male heirs with other concubines.
After the first years of selim's reign, mihrimah's health declined so she left the palace.
So i dont understand how mihrimah made nurbanu "regret her existence" when in fact nurbanu was far more powerful then mihrimah during the reign of Selim and Murad, nurbanu's daily salary was 1400 akce while selim's other concubines received only Around 40 akce daily. And mihrimah received just 600 akce, also nurbanu received 2000 aspers/akce during her reign as valide sultan which was the highest of her time.
And not only daily salary but also influence : nurbanu had the entire palace and even the divan (council) at her service and she had relations with the most powerful people in the empire and she was constantly working with Venice as an ambassador in the ottoman Empire.
Nurbanu during the reign of her husband selim and her son murad was indeed more powerful then mihrimah and more influential and she had more authority over selim and murad and over the grand vizier, its a known fact that during the reign of selim it was nurbanu who actually ruled the empire with the grand vizier sokollu.
She also transferred the harem to the topkapi and made many new titles including title valide sultan (which was made by selim and later legalized by murad) and a title for her kalfa canfeda who was the most powerful kalfa in ottoman history and he was even able to rival safiye.

@@idacarlsson5974historically speaking turhan was a coward andna back stabber.
Kosem's assassination wasn't a "mistake" it was a plan to sneak at night and strangle her. During that night turhan took her son and run away in fear of the assassination failing.
She also hid the fact thay kosem was executed and told the public and janissaries that she passed of natural causes until the Janissaries found the truth in 1656 and rebelled, in the rebellion of 1656 which was fueled by kosem's daughters ayse fatma and geveheran and kosem's granddaughter kaya, turhan was forced to give up her Regency and her son literally had to beg the janissaries to spare her life.
And kosem also protected all her step children and she influenced ahmed on ending fratricidal rule and during her 1st regency of 10 years all princes lived peacefully.
Turhan cooperated with the chief agha of all aghas kn the palace Suleiman agha and with meleke hatun to take down kosem despite the fact that she treated her well. But meleke and Suleiman agha both got what they deserve in the 1656 rebellion at the hand of the janissaries

I must say. Ahmed was weak in many places. He could never make the strongest choices because he was always letting his feelings get in the way. Osman wasn’t given much of a chance because he had people whispering in his ears from the get go.
Murad would have been a great leader except for the same. He was so worried about being right even when he was wrong that he let his anger take over. It was always about fear rather than justice. If he would have listened to Kosem all along they could have been a great team.
Ibrahim was just nuts and mentally weak. I saw it in him from the get go.
Each of them had money hungry insiders that were giving poor advice and lead to their downfalls putting mother against son. People whispering in their ears over and over again for their own benefit.
Kosem was not innocent but she ruled with her heart for the dynasty and the state. She cared about the people and the country, not just the power. She just realized the mistakes that everyone was making, especially her own children. One, an immediate threat yo his brothers. One a tyrant. One, freaking nuts. Did she need to try to kill the little one, no and that’s what got her in the end. She should have just ended Turhan as she said she would. She turned into the one thing she most despised, and that was to killing an innocent child.
I’ve enjoyed the series and yes, I know while some of this is based on historical people, I know it is a show. All of my comments are about the show, not any of the people in real life. I know nothing of the actual history of these people.

Before I begin, let me ask you guys: did anyone understand what the soothsayer said?
When she mixed Köşem’s blood to that of Ahmet’s that time he got seriously ill. She told her Ahmet would heal, but that ALL her loved ones would dye between her arms…, was it a course or a foretelling??
I love intelligent and powerful women.
I couldn’t watch to the end because I saw a preview of episode 60 by chance: that she got strangled… so I stopped watching, I couldn’t go on.
Now, 2 years has gone by, and I came to terms with my feelings, and I finally saw this series to end today.
That was because I thought, she actually fought and fought… did so much for the realm… and so,so much, had happened… that I was waiting, waiting for her to be happy.
As I watched on, I often asked myself: would she have an happy ending?
So, what I think of Köşem:
An innocent girl, who Sultan Ahmet fell in love with her painting, therefore got kidnapped from her island.
Became a woman, gave birth to 8 children in which 4 sons to the Ottoman dynasty.
Who held together the state from crumbling… YES, that was what she did.
Generous, powerful Valide Sultan, whose charities fed 20,000 people a day.
Or… a tyrant who doesn’t have mercy to her own children, blinded by ambition? No.
I think the first description is right. Ottoman Dynasty was a world apart.
She lived unhappy with an immense struggle to survive and protect her loved ones where some got sick and others got blinded by POWER themselves…
    …like the Qween Mother “SAFİYE”…
and to a way of life in a place FULL OF RICHES AND POWER WITH NO HAPPINESS.
Oh! dear Köşem, that’s just how it went “your life”.
But I as another woman who admires the intelligence of a woman; I define you: beautiful, intelligent and powerful, yes.
