One thing to remember about the MacKinnon footage that people seem to forget is that Landy is sitting right next to him, talking to him, and actually acts like a captain on the bench when people on there blow up on each other.

    Keefe’s legacy in Toronto:
    - Losing to a 42 year old Zamboni driver who works for them
    - Getting embarrassed in a play-in bubble playoffs.
    - Twice losing to a COVID ravaged Canucks team.
    - Blowing a 5-1 lead to the last place Senators
    - Dropping Freddie for Jack Campbell in 2021 but sticking with Samsonov in 2024.
    - Blowing a 3-1 series lead to Montreal because Galchenyuk was your best hope.
    - game 7 2022 and game 5 2023.
    - getting embarrassed by Marner anytime he tries to discipline him

      - that game was impossible to win. if the leafs win, there's a huge uproar from the league for putting their employee in net in a game they were losing and end up winning the game
      - yeah, losing to columbus was embarrassing, but that was also his first ever time with "playoff" hockey in a covid ravaged season, so it's forgivable
      - that canucks team went on to beat every other team in the division after battling covid, so that's a pretty lame cop-out
      - they also came back 4-1 against tampa (in the playoffs), 4-1 against tampa in the regular season, 5-0 against columbus... etc. pointing out his "performance" one game of the year and dictating a coach's ability is ridiculous
      - they *needed* to drop freddy at that point. i loved freddy in toronto and would've loved to keep him, but at that time campbell was significantly out-playing freddy, and it was a good thing they did swap to him. as for samsonov in 2024, look at samsonov's record/save % from january 2024 to now. now look at jones', now look at woll's... tell me who you would put as your starter for game 1. if you say "not samsonov!" then you're just foolish.
      - yeah, that series was abysmal, and he was stuffed into a locker
      - both those games were really close, well played games by the team? they just came up short. what's the point you're trying to make here?
man i'm so sick of these comments, i don't like keefe either but the fact that you guys have to move goalposts so much to make a point makes me not want to support your cause.

What if Matthews says "If you trade Marner, you have to trade me as well"? I think Matthews is the real cancer in the lockerroom. He is so talented and was born with a 6th gear...the problem is...he rarely uses it. Matthews is so talented that he never had to work hard, bust his balls or go to great lengths to win. He never learned how to work hard. This is catching on in the locker room and maybe he doesn't have to work hard, but for other players that are not even half as good as him - these types of players are following him - because those guys NEED TO HAUL ASS just to survive. The leadership is not there. Keefe hasn't lost the room...he's scared to say anything bad against the players. the coach is SCARED of his own players...to the point where he won't even say anything in pressers.

It’s reminiscent of NBA players like Durant or Harden who are happy with scoring 32ppg but are a huge liability defensively. They just don’t care and will proudly say “they pay me to score”. That’s what separates guys like Jordan and Kobe, they want to be great at EVERYTHING. Take pride in their defense as much as offense.

I blame the coaching over the 'mix' of players.
The issue with trading Marner at this deadline is that the return is going to be extremely low. Every other team knows the Leafs want to move off of him and his no trade and contract complicates everything. Anyone thinking they'll get a player like Keller out of a trade is just setting themselves up for disappointment.
I can also see him pulling a Sundin and saying 'nope not moving, I believe in this core,' and he maybe right if they bring in a better coach. The 'we're just going to sit you in the press box' thing just sends a message to any other player looking to sign long term with this team that they don't respect the players and unlike Vegas, can't deliver a winner, so why should they sign here?

Here’s the thing about Marner. As a flames fan, I look at him and I see a player like Johnny Gaudreau. He’s a better than average hockey player, maybe even a great hockey player. But he has no drive and no passion that I can see. He has no willingness to sacrifice himself for the play or the team. If he had the puck and someone comes within 5 feet of him he’s panicking and either passing or dumping when he could push and make a play happen. You watch Matthews play. Hes not afraid to get bumped around if it means making a play. He’s not afraid to go down and block a shot. Sure he’s a little bigger guy than Marner. Than go look at Brad Marshand and the impact he’s having out there, and remember that Marshand is one inch shorter and 10 pounds lighter than Marner. McDavid is nearly the same size as him and watch McDavid play.
End of the day, unless he gains that passion and that drive to fight through to make a play, he will never be successful in the playoffs.

His edge work and skating overall has been really poor this series and that is something that can take a long time to come back after an injury. If you're going to let Matthews, Nylander and Tavares have excuses for why they haven't been good you have to give it to Mitch as well. He was Toronto's leading scorer in the playoffs last year and he is the guy they turn to in every situation. I agree he hasn't been good enough this series, but the other members of the core four deserve just as much criticism. Marner hasn't been any less effective than the rest of them.

Problem is, year after year, he’s shown he can’t do it in the postseason. The organization still has to abide by the contract that it signed, regardless. Also, in the post game if you listen to William nylander, you can hear that he's congested and his voice is all messed up. I'm sure he is dealing with something nasty.
Also, my wife has had migraines since college, and they are not trivial. She spent many days in bed, in a dark room with ice compressors on her forehead. It's a horrible disease, because as she puts it, "Sometimes I am in so much pain that I can't even see straight, but because it doesn't show on the outside, nobody knows."
Anyhoo, I think we are going to find out that the Leafs are very very banged up right now. But, they can't say a word about it, because they would get roasted...by us.

  • @liltiger3
    @liltiger3 Месяц назад +5

Here's the thing, Matthews, Marner, and Nylander are all right now dealing with legitimate issues to explain why they're performing lackluster in these playoffs. Matthews has a mystery illness that's likely to keep him out for Game 5, Nylander had debilitating migraines (which I disagree with Adam, I do think it's legitimate, the man had to get tinted visors because of them), and Mitch is coming back from a high ankle sprain which is very difficult to come back from. For any other franchise, their three best players dealing with these issues in a playoff series would be a good enough excuse.
However, this isn't any other franchise. This is the Matthews era Toronto Maple Leafs. Their most well known trait is choking in big moments. They were plenty healthy in 2020, less so in 2021 with Tavares out but that's still no excuse for M&M disappearing that series, they were healthy in 2022, and in 2023 they were healthy going into the second round against Florida and they got rinsed. This team has done nothing but lose and fail to come up big in playoff series, so even if they're all hurting right now no one cares because even when they've been healthy the result was still the same.
