  • Proof that you can play Metallica on ukulele! "The Thing That Should Not Be," written by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Kirk Hammett and performed here by Amy Kucharik and "Fiends" With Benefits -- Michael Valdez on drums, Greg Toro on upright bass, and John Borecki on backing vocals and percussion. We played for an event called the "Cthu-Luau" back in April, and I was working up some pseudo-exotica covers. John suggested I check out this Metallica song about Cthulhu rising from the ocean. (Just Google it if that sounds like gibberish to you!)
We were both kind of surprised and very delighted that it actually worked as "exotica" (although the band couldn't resist rocking out!). This is our rehearsal video, so there are a few little hiccups in my playing, but sadly, we didn't get any video at the actual event.
Side note: I'm wearing an unrelated Cthuluau T-shirt. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who had the idea for a Cthu-Luau, as there is a shirt and another song besides mine.
