Bill, my buddy and I are getting ready to do the MABDR in November from south to north. Great job on this video! This was the most entertaining video on the MABDR I have seen yet! Subscribed!
Great video, I felt compelled to subscribe - didn't like seeing the 666 number up there. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. We have a group doing the MABDR in May 2023 and appreciate the recon. cheers,
@highway17adv98 are you possibly looking for another rider to join your group??.. I am also planning to do the MABDR in May and prefer not to ride it solo if possible.. lmk thanks!
Man, what I wouldn't give to have the honor of riding with Bill Pacheco. A friend and I will be riding this in June, 2022. Looking forward to it. Great video!
Nice video. I am sure you had a great time. I did it solo with zero off-road experience on CB500X and I can say it was nice but for NEBDR I should get dual sport bike.
@@doublex632 KLR will work I think. Sections 4 and 5 are the most challenging but that bike has plenty of ground clearance and can chug along in first and second gears. As I said guys do the route on 1200’s but they have more skill than I do.
Bill, What a great video! Well organized and informative for those thinking of riding this BDR. The giving of the mileage and listing of the campgrounds at the end of each section/day was helpful. Also the description of each bike by the rider was a good idea. Looks like everyone had a great time riding with Bill Pacheco! Clint
Thsnks for the video that shows what it's like to ride the MABDR. It's interesting to see that everyone rides the MABDR differently and has a different experience to share.
Thanks for a super-fun video. The videography was really well done. I know this is a stretch, but do you remember how far into Section 3 the big water crossing(s) happened? Were they as gnarly as the internet makes them out to be? Thanks again.
Thanks for watching. I don’t remember how far into the section they were, but you can tell from the video that they were not that deep. That was in May- no idea what they are like at other times…
It seems the 250 is great for the trails. Would you have gone with a. Bigger bike of using a van wasn’t an option? Looking to do the bdr but live in nj so would have a good bit of Highway to get to and from
I bought tie downs on eBay and screwed them into the wooden floor of the Penske truck. Used two straps per bike to hold them in place. After unscrewing the tie downs I ran dirt over the screw holes to cover the crime.
Enjoyed the video -- I leave in 7 days to do the MABDR south to north on a 2019 CRF 450L ---- Aftermarket - Vortex, Yohsi exhaust IMS 3 gal tank radiator guards and skid plate, barkbusters. luggage - Mosko Moto Reckess 80 I have yet to confirm Bill Pacheco really exists (other than online (grin :-) )
I really enjoyed your video. I have a few questions about this route. Would you recommend a smaller bike? I have a Yamaha TTR250 dual sport, an XR650L and a CB500X Rally Raid. The Yamaha is under 300lbs. The XR650L is about 332lbs (after mods), and the CB500X is 430lbs. Would you recommend knobbies? What is the approximate maximum distance I can expect between fuel stops? Should I carry extra fuel? It's a little hard to tell from the video, but would you classify this as challenging or easy going for the most part? If you had to put a percentage on it, how much of this route is offroad? I was hoping for about 70% or more. Thank you for your help.
You can do the MABDR using any of those bikes. I prefer using my CRF250L for the BDR's just because it is lighter, better on gas and so much fun to ride. Also if there are challenging spots (like on the NEBDR) it is a lot easier for me, as a 62 year old, to handle the smaller bike.
@@billpacheco790 Thanks for the reply Bill. I'm 55 so I know what you mean. The smaller bikes are easier and more fun. How much of this BDR is offroad? Thanks again.
@@jimhackney4727 I would say that the MABDR is probably 70% off road but most of that is gravel roads so not that tough. We saw more guys riding it on big bikes than on dual sports like we were.
Great video! I attempted to complete sections 1-3 (S-N) in April. I went down hard just after completing Tub Run rd. on some hard packed, slick dirt on my heavy Africa Twin. I am thinking about getting a dual sport for this type of riding now but know I will have to make some sacrifices with luggage, fuel strategy, and comfort riding out to the trails.
I normally ride a Yamaha Super Tenere but have found that it is too much work for an old guy like me on the trails. I bought the CRF250L last year for doing the NEBDR and loved the lighter weight and off road handling. I was able to pack everything I needed for camping without needing to leave anything essential behind. An after-market seat goes along way for a more comfortable ride. Try it and you will like it! Also that Africa Twin is probably lonely in the garage all by itself...
Well after all this, I feel like I know what it’s like to ride with Bill Pacheco! 😂 Great video! Our trip got cancelled last year so we are planning this spring’s excursion and stumbled on your video. Thanks for sharing your awesome trip! Did you link the campsites you stayed at?
Thanks for watching! I did not link the campsites so you will need to watch the vid and make notes. I would recommend that you book them early as they fill up fast. Have fun!
Lee you need to watch the video, I say at the end of each day where we were camping. Thanks for watching and sorry I didn’t include the links in a better format.
Dog Dick? That`s what we used to call those old Harley single cyl. dirt bike pieces of crap about 50& yrs. ago. Were they called Sprints? Made by Bennelli in Italy? Maybe. That single cyl. would stick out in front of the engine just like a dog with a hard on.
Awesome video! I am in my late 60's and this this gives me inspiration. BTW, what model drone were you using for the drone shots? They really add to the video.
Glad to provide the inspiration. I use a DJI Spark. It is very small and produces good quality video. It takes a while to learn how to fly it and get the best shots. My son Sam did all of the drone shooting for this video - he is much better at it than I am.

Great share Bill. So enjoyed the ride. What's it like to ride with Bill Pacheco? Priceless....a salute to you from your Canadian 🇨🇦 viewer!
Thanks Chris! I hope you get some great Canadian riding in this season.
Curious if the penske had hooks for tie downs? We are hauling 7 bikes and got a 26ft penske truck.
