    Incredibly clear and well illustrated steps. Just waiting now for replacement battery to arrive from Ebay (£8.95). I suspect the reason for battery failure in my case is that it cannot withstand being left on charge for the 48 hrs it had been since last working without issue. As I cannot be 100% sure of the quality of the replacement battery, I will only charge it in the open away from combustible material and for no more than a couple of hours. Like a previous comment, I no longer have the receipt. The item was no more than 8 months old and little used.

    I could wade through this replacement procedure I am at an age where I have more important things to do like ensuring I wake up tomorrow. It is disgraceful of Karcher to not make the battery replaceable when the product is still in good condition. This is just cynical built in obsolescence to make more sales at the cost of damage to the environment. Perhaps some legislation at federal level (Australia) is needed.

      Yes totally agree with legislations that should impose easy batterie replacements for all battery powered appliances. I have a vacuum cleaner that need several soldering points to be replaced . Should be like on cameras .

    The battery is marked as 3.65v - what would you expect the in-circuit voltage to be? Mine is 2.2v - no LED on charging although adapter providing 5v. Do I have to remove batter to check true voltage ? What constitutes a dead battery voltage wise? Thanks

    • @ionicindustries
      @ionicindustries  4 года назад

      If the voltage is below 2.7V then the battery has failed, unfortunately. Check the PCB for signs of water damage too, as a new battery won't fix that.

    The new battery that you install, is more powerful, lasts longer? Do you know if this possibility exists? A battery that lasts much longer than the original one that does not last at all charged, I await your answer, greetings.

    • @ionicindustries
      @ionicindustries  3 года назад

      The batteries in the link in the description are higher capacity than the original. They will run for longer before they need recharging again.

    Where it says unhook the two recessed clips in the bottom of the vase cover, which direction actually unhook it as I've tried all ways?

      You should be able to unhook them by pushing with a screwdriver as shown 47 seconds in.

  • @jamesbatley1879

    There "seems" to be a problem with the section that describes how to remove the base cover as in "MY" unit there are NO recessed clips (as pointed out by the blue arrows) visible without totally destroying the base in the process of "trying" to follow the instructions. Perhaps they modified the assembly after this video was made. I wonder if anyone else had the same situation and if so "how" did you solve this access problem?

    • @ionicindustries
      @ionicindustries  5 лет назад

      Yes they might have changed the design. What is the WV model number marked on the casing of your one?

    • @ChrisBetson
      @ChrisBetson 5 лет назад +1

      @@ionicindustries The clips are still there but there is no need to disengage them - it is the side clips that hold the base secure - it will come off once they are released.

    how do you know if it is the battery at fault? I opened the same model you have and found corrosion around some of the terminals, so I used flux to clean up the PCB. but it did not get it working again. when you have it plugged in should it be able to be turned on? All of the chips looked OK at a visual inspection so I don't think any of the diodes are blown. It's not mine so I don't know what the normal operation of the machine is (eg lights when charging) Thanks in advance

    • @ionicindustries
      @ionicindustries  7 лет назад

      The corrosion could have damaged tracks on the PCB so it's hard to say. Normally, the battery lasts a shorter and shorter time after a full charge so needs replacing when it only lasts for a minute or two. If the machine is totally dead even after charging, and it has internal corrosion, then no-one could say for sure if it's the battery or the PCB.

    • @SwishGavigan18
      @SwishGavigan18 7 лет назад

      wouldn't say it's the tracks anyway they look fine. might just rig up a normal battery to the terminals and see will it even switch on. It was working and brought in to charge and then wouldn't work after that, so I don't think it would be corrosion internally in a chip, so unless the battery went that low that the voltage won't come back up in it is the only other thing I can think of. Not the best of design of a product, you would think that they would put hot glue over some of the components.

      It could be indicating a fault. Will it charge up and run? If not, there might be water damage or the battery could be dead.

    Just stripped our WV2 down as per the video. Checked the battery with a multimeter and it's reading 4.0V so I'm assuming it is ok. However, not getting any voltage at the motor terminals when the power switch is switched on and off. Any ideas anybody?

    • @suethompson5145
      @suethompson5145 5 лет назад

      There does look like there may be some corrosion on the pcb, near where the switch is attached. Not certain this can be cleaned off without damaging the pcb? Have contacted Karcher as unit only 2 years old. Their policy is send it to them and they'll knock £10 off a new one!! Very disappointed! Thanks for your video though, very helpful. S

    There is corrosion on the PCB in one a friend gave me to fix. Not something i'd expect from KARCHER, but poor design if it lets water get to the internals. Had a look with a magnifying glass and all looks good, but without a circuit diagram finding out what has failed is a bit hit or miss. I've cleaned the board but still no voltage at the battery when its put on charge. Battery is 0 volts so thats had it. Not impressed, for fifty quid there is very little in it, and what is in it is of very poor quality. I wont be buying one.

    • @ionicindustries
      @ionicindustries  7 лет назад +2

      Depending on how cynical you're feeling, the battery could be soldered in either for reliability reasons or for planned obsolescence purposes!

    • @mbaker335
      @mbaker335 5 лет назад

      Because the battery is not supposed to be replaced. Perfectly normal to solder them in. Including soldered in fuses. Thermal cutouts are crimped in but not considered replaceable. These vacuums are dirt cheap so are considered disposable.

  • @RobBatt
    @RobBatt 3 года назад +1

    What an advert for poor Karcher engineering. It would have been possible and preferable to make this useful item with an easily replaceable battery as used in Dyson hand tools. As someone else commented the whole machine is likely to end up in landfill because Karcher saved a few pennies on this disgracefully wasteful design! No wonder we have a plastics problem.

    • @stewartbedford6932
      @stewartbedford6932 3 года назад

      Fully agree, Karcher Australia were less than responsive when I pointed out that my window vac still worked but wouldn't re-charge and how easily it would be to make the battery replaceable. Regret I no longer have the patience to install a third party battery. My only course of action is not to buy a new one.
