One thing that’s pretty neat about these two Origin Forms.
Palkia’s signature move is “Spacial Rend”, using its claws to tear a hole in the fabric of reality. Origin Palkia loses its claws.
Dialga’s signature move is “Roar of Time”, using its roar to… umm… do timey wimey stuff. Origin Dialga has a massive chunk of something blocking its throat and likely its vocal cords.

I always thought of Dialga’s, Roar of Time, as a wailing roar. Instead of hurting your eardrums, it’s hurting the past, present and future. A scream that’s focuses on everything, everywhere all at once.

I like to see them as 'Prototypal' forms, given how 'incomplete' they feel
Palkia has shoulders with no arms, and Dialga looks weirdly naked, because it doesn't have its armour.
That they look like Arceus' physical representation tells me whatever made them (Arceus itself or something else) used it as a basis, because there was probably not much life to reference from.
Though that makes me question Giratina's appearance... maybe it was an attempt at making something 'different'? And then the process got elaborated on even more later.
Btw, I also like how these designs seemingly also impact how they would use their signature moves, that's neat

I find it interesting how their origin form has the main body part that they use for their signature move absent or blocked.
Palkia uses its arms for special rend, but origin palkia has no arms
Dialga uses its mouth for roar of time, but its origin form has its mouth blocked

One thing i like about the Orgin forms is how there mouth plates match with Giratina's
Dialga's shifts upwards, Palkia's shifts downwards, and Giratina's opens sideways.

Their origin forms to me cement the idea that Arceus really is meant to be more centaur-shaped. The "neck" is actually mostly torso but without arms.
Palkia pulls this body shape off a little better, with the shoulder stubs in place of its arms. Dialga was already quadruped so the torso thing kinda gets lost a bit. I've always loved how jarring and bizarre their origin forms are.

Fucking love Origin Dialga. The sharp/angular shapes on its body really looking like crystals shaped over an unknowable amount of time. Even the one on its neck protrudes as if it originated there. Also people have noted the legs looking kind of like compass points or the points on a dial. The shimmering of some highlights. Fucking banger idk what people are shitting on it for. Do people really want a generic, aesthetically pleasing, form to eldritch beings that are said to exist at the beginning of creation??? That defeats the purpose of the Origin forms. Those people are weak.

I have actually come to appreciate the origin forms more than the base ones. They are so alien that I can see these beasts being the incarnation of amorph concepts such as time and space. Yes, they both affect the physical world on a fundamental level but have no physical "form". Origin Dialga looks like a bulky little sauropod tried fusing with diamonds, clockwork and a picture of Arceus in an alchemy experiment gone wrong. It looks more diamond/clock than animal to me. Love it.
Origin Palkia is the more 'animal' looking one, maybe for contrast? The horse bit could be how running in vast spaces is commonly associated with horses, not necessarily having anything to do with the mythical creature centaur. I'm a horse girl for it. But I think the position of the pearls is weird. It is a focal point in the design so more often than not (especially if motionless) I'm left thinking of armless regular Palkia first and the centaur half second.
In conclusion, Feraligatr is the best ❤

This video is JUST what I've looking for! I've had a hyperfixation on the designs & parallels of the creation trio since I saw their Bulbapedia article
~ 12 years ago. Looking at the new forms, I knew my dislike for them was mostly me being an obssessive grumpy old veteran. Yet I was surprised to find that as many people liked them. Especially Palkia, which caused me to go back into a deep dive into the introductory form and asking what is appealing about Palkia for it's fans:
"It pink", "Water Dragon strong typing", "Dino dragon are rad", "I like pink". Which doesn't feel very satisfactory for me and my taste / expectations. I'm now designing my own take on Palkia, with so many notes that I want to learn how to make video essays just so I can talk about my over obsessive findings.
I say obsessive, but I still haven't beaten the game. I bought PLA on release, but I've had difficulty balancing my free time with other hobbies to actually finish the story experience for myself whilst also avoiding spoilers as much as possible for the last few years (R.I.P. Surprise sudden but inevitable betrayal.) This video was very helpful for me to use as a resource on what people appreciate about Origin Palkia. I hope one day, sometime soon, I can share more thoughts about them and the creation trio to some of the viewers here.
Thanks GatorEX for making the video, and thank you viewer for reading my little rant about fictional Dino-Dragon / Organo-Mech gods.

      BONUS ARCEUS FACTS:
Arceus indeed has many different inspirations, but the obvious one is Buddha. This is due to Arceus's torso crest bearing a striking resemblance to the Dharma wheel and the "thousand hands" reference in the Pokédex. Arceus has a motif of "light". Most of the iconography I've found relating to Arcues in this regard seems to be shared with both Buddha and Judeo-Christian artwork. I still haven't finished PLA yet, so maybe there's some of that Zoroastrian / Judeo-Christian "Light = good and God, Darkness = bad", that I haven't seen yet. Arceus base colours of yellow and white could represent the aureola: A cloud that refracts the sun's light to appear golden, which appears in artwork of heavenly beings coming to earth. Arceus's beta sprite and glow in the PLA opening could represent the judeo-christian god, a la the burning bush. The diffraction of light in the opening, as well as how Arceus uses the type plates in the anime, also suggest something else. Arceus's crest also represents light diffraction, with the plates being the different colours of light. A front facing view of Arceus using the plates might look like a candle difracting light. If we can take the iconography of Ultra-necrozma's (and Shagaru Magala's from Monster Hunter for some reason) base colour of yellow, perhaps Shiny Arceus is meant to be literally shiny, if not the shiniest shiny that ever shined.
As for the hoofed animal thing, it probably has to do with the sacredness of work animals in southern and Central Asia. Most know that killing a cow is taboo in many parts of India, but this was true to varying degrees for much of the history of china and other central asian cultures. This is partially why horses are so sacred in Mongolian culture. It's also likely that it's because hoofed animals are seen as more majestic than most and occur widely (except here in Oceania, lol).
I also believe the plates of Arceus has to do with traditional carving practises of the Ainu. In some parts of Hokkaido, the indigenous folk have a very special relation to carvings with wooden plates. Kind of ironic considering that much of Sinnoh's grand creation lore, with the likeness to Shinto Kami, is in contrast to a lot of real life Hokkaido's indigenous beliefs being more concerned with the physical and spiritual health of the local environment in the Kamui. At least to my knowledge. I'm probably digging too deep. Anyway, thanks for reading again.

This video was a step up from your usual ones, with greater enthusiasm you present compelling opinions and observations on an often maligned Pokémon. I had not realized some of those things about Origin Palkia, the bit about it being akin to chimeras found in mythology and religion is an intriguing parallel. Can’t say you’ve turned me into a fan but I do respect it more now. The jokes were also funnier this time around I think.

Diamond was my first game but between this and Cyrus having one in Masters made me more of a Palkia fan. Origin Palkia feels much more out of this world as a diety. Dialga feels like it’s almost there but the legs feel too goofy.
I like the common theory of Palkia losing its arms and Dialga having that weird spear in its throat as them losing full control of their signatures moves. Palkia can’t slash to use Spacial Rend and Dialga can’t roar to use Roar of Time. That could explain why their moves get less accurate but more powerful in their Origin forms.

Always been a Dialga person, it was the third legendary I was ever exposed too and was on a sick pokemon card. And playing smash brawl and seeing it all the time it was easily my favorite. Love the blue and metallic design and then getting it as my second legendary in pokemon go it did me a lot of good. I've grown more to love Palkia over the years and with more dynamic art and seeing it move honestly in those cases it looks cooler. The origin forms I used to not like but now I've grown really attached and just embraced them especially after the Pokemon Go sinnoh tour. Im hoping to build the altered and origin forms and maxing them out in Go.

I’ve liked them since I first saw them! I’m more a Dialga fan but since I picked Pearl clan during my first run of Arceus and ended up seeing Origin Dialga! I think the forms are so unique and the more time we’ve had with them the more I like the designs! I love how you can see in their Origin Forms that they’re mimicking Arceus and if you take Palkia’s ring & Dialga’s X from their torsos & out them together, it makes Arceus’s crest. That’s a detail I found out myself and I’m very proud of that fact, obviously other people found it out later on, but ya know, I’m happy that I noticed it before it being pointed out to me!

I actually like Dialga's origin form more than Palkia's. The girdle is simpler than Palkia's and doesn't look quite as much as though it's made of plastic, and the fact that Palkia's lower body is almost JUST a horse was kind of off-putting/distracting. I like that Dialga is now all angles to further contrast Palkia's rounded, flowing shapes.

I'll always think of Origin Dialga and Palkia as less "primordial" as if it's an original form, and more like it's been driven to try and copy Arceus in a bid for more power in their confusion and rage from the rift, maybe emulating both Arceus and Giratina in that regard.
That said, I LOVE the origin forms of Dialga and Palkia, they just look so awkward and _wrong,_ like they Should Not _Be._ Seeing them for the first time ingame being so shocking and almost disturbing, and then being hit with eurobeat of all things???? Combining the two made for a fantastic experience. The difficult fight mixed with all of these fun factors made for a huge smile on my face while I was yelling in panic. 1000/10 game

It's interesting that you mention Laventon because while he does believe that Origin Dialga to be its true form, Origin Palkia is instead called Palkia's strategy to gain Arceus's powers
It's a distinction that goes back to his entries of their normal forms too, where Dialga is called a revered Deity while Palkia is called a feared Deity
Those are technically a small distinction, but in general it seems to me that PLA somewhat wants to depict Palkia in a light that's a bit more sinister than Dialga's

Somehow it connects to Explorers of Sky all of sudden considering how much of an aggressive enforcer Palkia was and Dialga appearing more of a benevolent observer or the fact when you deny recruiting Dialga to your team he walks away sulky and disappointed

I love the origin forms for both Palkia and Dialga. I know that a lot of people don't like them because they seem chaotic and unsettling, but that's the entire point. They're ancient eldritch deities trying to mimic their creator, they're meant to look out of place.

And for dialga they managed to do that. Butpalkia's shoulders? They don't look eldritch or unsettling. They just look goofy

A more or less interesting fact about Origin Palkia: It is the best Pokemon to use in Pokemon Go in the Master League, which is the league with all the legendaries, so you actually do see it very often there^^

Origin Palkia clears origin Dialga designwise
But regular Dialga clears base Palkia so it evens out

I've gone back and forth over whether I like base Palkia or Dialga more over the years, but generally I have the opposite opinion to you. I wonder if we're less inclined to like the origin forms of the one whose regular form we prefer, but the origin form of the other one gives us something new to appreciate?

I never liked Palkia's design with its head hunched forward awkwardly like that. But the origin form, oh boy does it hit right.
Making the base form quadrupedal fixes everything tho, I'm tempted to draw it too

If Origin Dialga didn't look like it was choking on a barrel all the time, it'd probably have a good design, but yea Origin Palkia looks far better.

I love Dialga's original design more than Palkia's but they destroyed origin form Dialga design wise. Palkia's design looks real cool although I wish it had it's hands in ghost form. Just floating translucent limbs

Arceus is normal type but even arceus probably knew the power of dragon type pokemon so that's probably why the creation trio are dragon type

I like Palkia and Dialga's origin forms, but they feel incomplete in a meta way. The gradients and lack of detail on their lower body (especially in origin Palkia) make the designs look like the devs ran out of time. I like how weird they are, but I feel like they needed more time in the oven.
I do see the vision tho, something about the true forms of the gods of space and time being horse dragons is really striking to me. Origin Palkia pulls this off better to me, and I agree that Dialga doesn't look different enough.

I like both Palkia's designs, as for Dialga's not so much for the origin one, the neck and those two spikes on it's feet don't look good like it shallow something, and got stuck in It's throat. It's other dinosaur form is good though.

I definitely prefer Palkia’s Origin forme; I prefer Palkia over Dialga in general. But I eventually came around to Origin Dialga after building a deck around it in the TCG.
It’s such a fun card and takes advantage of the comfort a lot of meta decks play their engines onto the bench with. And it’s even better now with the Temporal Forces Metang!
