I have seen a lot of SUV camper conversion and I have to say I love yours. It is simple and you have all the stuff you need and the sleeping area is roomy, great job!
Nice rig. Tri-fold in the roof box really frees up the space. Too many people squeeze these massive beds into a tiny space and all they really have is a gigantic bed....😉
great job... i am considering a 2006 hybrid highlander. and saw your setup.. very nice.. i will be a little restrained due to the hybrid battery but liking the idea of increased mpg ( esp with current issues) like the teapot whistle in the outdoors... awesome
I have a 2007 HiHy. Good luck finding one right now! FWIW, the battery is under the 2nd row seats, so would not change the layout of this design from the floor up (would only take up some of the underfloor area forward of the brace between the rear shock towers).
@@MarcillaSmith i just found one with 98000 miles on it!!! true costs are higher than i would like but it seems to run well and is all complete... just change out the stereo with bluetooth and a back up cam and its good to go the hybrid battery seems to charge well also! now to find a rack and awning, some solar and a fridge, and it is ready for the summer!
Love this! I just got an older Highlander and am inspired to camp convert...thanks for walking us through your process. Looks great! PS...if you have time could you share the link for the tri-fold mattress? Thank you in advance.

Nice conversion! Thanks for sharing. One question -would you please share a link to the ceiling lights shown in the video? I noticed that they didn't flicker as LED lights usually do. Thanks in advance.
Brilliant putting the mattress on the roof! Never would have thought of that. Thanks for making this video. I'm trying to figure out how to get a toilet in there, even just a bucket to use during the night (old lady here up every couple hours LOL). Maybe remove the front passenger seat? And was thinking you could more easily use the front seats if instead of using a curtain, you used black window covers, so nobody could see in?
Great job! Love to see the different iterations and prototypes. What is the height between the plywood on the floor up to the ceiling? I would like to know how I could fit a bike in there.
Good question. 38 inches. I could think of a couple ways to fit a bike in there. I crammed my vibe cruiser back there last week. But thought a rear hitch mount bike rack would probably be most optimal.
@@AHumanEndeavor this is good news! By simply removing the front wheel, my bike is 36" high exactly. It will safely fit inside the car. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
@@AHumanEndeavor I was watching a video by Broken and Coastal's channel and he has a great bike mount. Forget the brand, but it's upright and has a swingaway arm. And you can attach other things to it besides just bikes. Very cool.
I used an extra piece then I would use it to separate the main area from a loose items/storage space. Truth be told, on my last trip to Montana I didn't even use that extended piece. I wound up using the rear space of the vehicle as is and it worked great for cooking etc...
That's pretty cool, I am going to go look at a Highlander today for this same reason. I was wondering if there would be a drawback to putting the bed platform higher up to get it closer to the side? Great job!
Obviously? It's an SUV, not a high top van, RV, or an apartment. By definition it is always going to be vertically cramped. Think of these vehicles more as hard-sided tents for sleeping and with a few more comforts that you are intended to live out of.

I caught a glimpse of a blue rhino propane tank. Hope it was for home use, if for Van Yikes! Ask why are all RV n trailers are attached outside. See you cooking with a good size propane. This was mentioned not just for you but those who are starting their builds. Gma in me comes out on this stuff llololol

"Doable and possible." Thanks for the encouragement and sharing.
Honestly? It looked like you made a Toyota Highlander into a teardrop trailer only THIS teardrop trailer has an engine and a steering wheel!
Bravo!
I love how you lived with it and built it as you felt it made sense!!! super smart.
Invest in some folding solid TV trays. I love them as cooking tables, prep tables, computer table. You can cut the legs to fit into the suv.
Really liked how you showed step by step and how your build changed along the way. 🙏🏻
I have a 2000 RX300 and I've been thinking of retro-fitting just like this for a while. Nice job and good luck!
Great job! You did what you needed and got on the road!
Ooow I really like that chair. It looks very comfortable

Love the shelving ideas! And the day vs night options.
I love this. I just got a highlander and I think I’m going to try to do this this week!
Nice job. Gave me some ideas for my build.
I liked the video. I would seriously consider doing this to my Highlander.

Does the hybrid highlander have climate control like the Prius does?
@@brandonmedina5071 no it is not as climate functional as the prius... maybe toyota should make a lifted AWD prius right???

Thanks for that video, how many inches do you have. Before to put the bed platform, from floor and top ,
Would you able to sit in without banging head on roof? For me that’s must have feature in van life

My consideration/want was for headroom. But there is room to build it over the wheel well
Nice job! My 2003 Mitsubishi Montero has a similar layout. What mattress do you have for your adventures?
is that you on the guitar?
Yep
