- 4th November 1956, Trafalgar Square rally. Aneurin Bevan delivers one of the great anti-war speeches, condemning the government's decision to take military action against Egypt in the Suez crisis.
Shame on the people below mocking Aneurin Bevan's ill health before his passing. A man with more talent in his little finger than all the Tory trolls commenting on this combined. Stop biting the hand that feeds...you all benefit from the NHS, which was Aneurin Bevan & LABOUR'S vision.
His name is whispered with the reverence of an Angel here in wales 🏴
As well it should throughout the world. Phenomenal figure all too often ignored
One of the truly great orators
Aneurin Bevan was one of the greatest politicans in British history. The NHS is one of the things that make Britain great. Bevan was a man of principle and it is ashame that we do not have more politicans like him today.
Quite a story how the then private health industry was told it was going to be nationalised. Wasn't popular with doctors!
♥ Aneurin Bevan ♥... I couldn't resist naming my son after you! You are truly missed! Socialism is the light! Thankyou for saving so many lives!
Great speech, What an orator.
As an ignorant American, I never heard this Bevan speak but now that I have... He sounds spot on in his assessments and you British should revere his legacy as much as any other great speaker.
A truly great, great man, we have nobody in Parliament today that deserves their names mentioned with his.
A True Hero ✊♥️
“We never had liberty” . “We had to fight for it” . Quote ; by Aneurin Bevan
Many of Britain’s Working Class have forgotten that now .
Not on the battlefield but at home! 😢
What a wonderful man. His vision was beyond reproach. Read "In Place Of Fear", it shows a man who clearly saw not only what was required in the 1950's, but what would be required in the years that were to follow.
It is a sad, very sad day when people such as "Harvey Carter" who have, no doubt, used the services of the NHS "Bite the hand that fed them". Too stupid or too ignorant to thank their blessings.
"Will he be a successful liar?!" - kills me every time
A ridiculous and callous comment. I cannot stand the ethos of Thatcher's cabinet but I would never wish pain and suffering upon any of them. Surely you can appreciate Bevan was a selfless man of laudable morals and principles, even if you don't happen to agree with them. It's a shame all politicians today are vacuous careerists by comparison.
Anybody have a download link pleeeease?
Saved millions of lives
What were they chanting at the end?
I think it's "Eden must go".
(offtopic, but seeing the uploader's username I cannot help expressing the thought - you uploaded this video and have a username referring to Wagner's opera? are your interests perfect or what)
I’m here because of Michael Sheen
Did you see the play then?
@@kawaiilotus I saw it live at the NT and it was amazing! Michael was amazing!
@MrRobertJameson Come now Bob, it's not 100% inevitable you will be a virgin forever. Chill out bro.
Love Nye!
Bevan was a romantic and emotionalist. He thought international relations was based on morality, who's right or wrong. He didn't understand that power is the basis of international relations. Unsurprisingly, Bevan attacked British rearmament against Hitler in the 1930s.
I believe he understood what you are saying he just rejected it! Rightly so.. If we don't oppose these evils of nations then we are all doomed.
I don't like the man or what he stood for either, but don't lower yourself to the standard of the Thatcher haters etc.
Unlikely, as the British mandate for Palestine had expired almost a decade earlier.
Hmmm, I think you're confusing socialist principles with totalitarianism
The NHS was going to be introduced whichever party won the 1945 General Election.
Bollocks. The Tories voted against it 21 times.
The Tories were against introducing an NHS and voted against it. That made Nye Bevan call them vermin.
Total nonsense - the Tories fought the founding of the NHS tooth and nail.
A comment of such stupidity is precisely why the least 10 years had been such a catastrophe for the UK. Confidence in ignorance is the perfect formula for failure.
Did it hurt when you got cancer Nye?
Wow. Absolutely zero class.
I hope you get to feel that hurt too.
Lol I would make you feel alot worse than cancer ever could retard
Is that your Intelligent Comment of the Week? You sad character.
Given the shit Bevan shrugged off in his time, you'd have to do a bit better.
Bevan supported fascism.
Tell me you are politically illiterate without telling me you are politically illiterate.
