So stay tuned:)
Sitting around and watching your videos up here in Michigan it’s cold and windy today

Are these huts booked in advance or do you just turn up? What happens if you arrive and there are no more bunks, is a patch of floor provided?
Hi there! We did book all the huts in advance. We were going to Austria during popular months (and during covid), so we wanted to be sure there was room available. However, booking the huts can be done quite last minute. Especially if you are going by yourself or just the two of you. If you are going with a whole group, it is better to book a spot just to be sure.
It depends on the hut you are going if there is enough room. Some huts are super big like Karwendelhaus, some are super small like Dalfaz Alm. I heard that huts can't decline people after a certain time, because of safety and that there are always a few spots left for people who are 'stranded', you know? But to be honest, I am not sure about that and just heard that somewhere. So I would check that if I were you haha. Best is to ask the huts themselves what their policy is. And in our opinion it's better to be safe than sorry, so we would prefer booking a spot before you go.
@@Hikaholics Thanks for the great response. After doing the Camino, I'm still in the expectation that I can simply turn up at these places and hope for the best. The issue with booking is that you never know whether you'll actually make it and it's always best to be flexible when hiking so I'm glad to hear there's some contingency for simply turning up, even if it might not be optimal. Cheers.
@@Hikaholicsthe part about not turning away people is true for huts of the cotegory 1 (above a certain hight). They can´t turn away anyone who turns up. If there´s no space left, these huts usually have a Winterlager (winter quarters) where the people can lie on matresses on the floor
That’s really good to know! Thank you!
