I find it kinda weird that, while every single anime at the Anime Awards has a single Key Visual to represent it, here comes JJK, flip flopping between 2 Key Visuals. I think that Shibuya arc isn't supposed to be there, cuz no way Gojo had a better voice performance than Mahito and most of JJK's nominations were from Hidden Inventory. So weird to me.
Gojo was absent for most of the season, they probably put him in there because of popularity like how they put Demon Slayer on almost every category

Gojo had a lot more screen time this season than Mahito and Demon Slayer isnt there for popularity, it actually slaps in the categories its in, now if there was a "best story telling" and DS was there THEN it would be due to popularity, but if you want an actual example of popularity nomination look at Luffy and Eren in the "best MC", cuz Eren sure as hell shouldnt be there, you can barely call him the MC in this season, and Luffy definetly isnt top MC material.
It's sad that Undead Girl Murder Farce got snubbed. One of my favorites of last year.

Regarding Bucchigiri's supposed situation...... I blame both Director and Studio; The Studio because they should have standards to what they release, and the Director because He/She should have made sure beforehand that the Studio is giving them a schedule that's compatible with his/her vision and ambitions. Maboroshi was amazing, definitely not for Makoto Shenkai fans, but if you try harder to understand the meaning behind every component of the movie, you'll love it as much as I did. I'll give it a perfect 9/10. Also, Like your choices on the CR awards (Even though, it's almost completely unlike mine😅😅😅) but the only ones I REALLY disagree with are: I put Vinland over JJK for AOTY, and Chainsaw Man for Best New anime.
Is this an opinion formed around knowing something behind the scenes? The director probably has less authority than you might expect.
@@justasinglesummon3912 No, juat talks online and I can tell from this director other works, that he/she always has very HIGH ambition and vision and it almost never get achieved on her shows (some episodes look insanely good you would question how is this airing on TV, but alot of the episodes vary between 6/10 to 8/10). Some talks online are saying her character designs are hell for animation directors (I know she isn't doing character desgin, but alot of her shows share the same complicated, heavy detalied and beautiful designs) and they're struggling with them and the schedule isn't helping at all (Don't know the details of the schedule). Also, the Director MUST have at least an idea to when this project is supposed to air beforehand. If not, then the industry is fu**ed.
Loved the video as always. When you talk about great storyboarding, what do you usually look out for?
Really depends on the nature of the episode. As a general rule of thumb, I like when the shots look dynamic/complex and serve as more than just a way of showing the characters. Interesting shots, angles and motion, also how symbolic the shots are, this stuff matters. For action scenes, the overall flow and choreography (not limited to hand to hand combat) is important.

My take on Maboroshi is slightly better than yours. Not in a way yours bad theoretically.
Just like you said, the visual are stunning. Well, this has been a project for years, it is expected to be.
The soundtrack itself is a charm to ears. It's melancholy and eerie really draws me in for the first time listening it. A really good piece from Masaru Yokoyama.
The plot does confused me. The movie basically tells you to at least watched one Mari Okada works first (which is less or more complicated) before watching Maboroshi. I've seen one and I still got confused. But I'll be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.
Overall, I enjoyed it. Especially that finale.

gachiakuta is in my top 3 manga rn, mainly cause the paneling and characters look so damn cool. both villians and protagonists have baller drip for a trash world

Some small feedback, try using some Spitfish (free) to edit your audio, it lowers the annoyingly loud S sounds which this video had some problems with

Excluding the art direction, CDs, and Hell's (+for no reason One piece...)I think the nominations were fine.
Solid choices (although too mainstream).
This is probably their best year.
I feel they are getting better (hope in the next 10-20 years they start including people who actually watch other anime besides mainstream but whatever)

What makes Tanaka best VA this year compare to Yuki Kaji? At this point, I imagine Tanaka's screams are mostly bank.
Animation wise OP can't touch CSM, JJK, Bocchi, or heavenly.

@@MazingerDestro I'm pretty sure the animation was excellent, and it didn't even get nominated either, which it probably deserved over AOT to be honest. Also Tanaka's Luffy is literally the main reason to watch the One Piece anime, and Luffy is a better main character than Denji. Agree on the Soundtrack tho. Also best action is a pretty fitting category for One Piece. You just seem to assume that One Piece has literally no reason to be there, when in fact, it deserves all of it's nominations. It's like if you ignored that Star Wars existed for the Academy Awards in 1977.

@@MazingerDestro that’s an interesting thing to call some of the most talented animators in the industry. Also, it’s not worse than that. I could get behind saying that it doesn’t reach its highs, but to say it doesn’t hit the minimum is dumb. Also we aren’t talking direction.

I recommend reading Tenmaku Cinema. It's a manga which was serialized in Jump around mid 2023. Unfortunately, it got axed just after 20-is chapters. It was a really good manga with honest effort and passion put into it, had a small but genuinely supportive fanbase which enjoyed and looked forward to every chapter, but sadly, Japan didn't like it enough. And thus, spoke the axe.
Honestly that is pretty common. I feel like Shonen Jump has a lot of small but dedicated fanbases, but that can’t be everything.

i mean overall it’s mostly deserved stuff. Gojo and Geto’s nominations are strange in their categories, but like the shows for best anime of the year and other categories like that are fantastic.
the list of characters for best main character is just the best characters they could have been.

I mean yeah they didn't put some good anime in art direction,character design like bleach tybw,heavenly delusion which was disappointing. But CR awards are just pushing their agenda by putting more popular show in every category that's it 😒.
This tybw season wasn't that good to be a part of any awards tbh. I agree with heavenly Dennison. The most funny thing is hell's paradise being on the list.

Actually loved this week's one piece episode (1091), well in terms of animation it was pretty consistent well atleast better than the still frames treatment that some episodes get , but my favourite part was the animation style , unique from the wano one but yet suits one piece so much.

Vinland not getting nomniated as best Ost is criminal. And, gojo's voice actor getting a nomination for best VA even though he was there for very few episodes if hilarious.
Even nezuko got nomination in best VA in english dub version when she only said good morning in entire series

as a manga reader id say the first act is a lil weak but act 2 is A LOT better, but by the looks of it the anime is doing it better (so far)

The thing that got me beyond mad, was that Mahito's JP VA was not a choice in the awards. They put fucking GOJO (who had no real noteworthy VA moments this season) over him which sucks, but makes sense because its basically a popularity contest. Mahito is the greatest voiceacting I've heard this year, nobody else even gets close.
Hmm, excuse me? Yuichi Nakamura had incredible performances throughout the end of Hidden Inventory, specially his talk with Geto, he absolutely deserved it.
@@carloscauan7967 I read your comment and rewatched it, I do agree with you a lot more than when I wrote this comment, his work in Hidden Inventory was really good. I still think Mahito did a better job, cause almost everytime he opened his mouth it was incredible (the entirety of 'you are me'' after killing Nobara is the first thing that comes to mind) I rarely hear VA work so superb that I get chills on my body (especially how Mahito tends to scream as long as he can, then end it on a whine like a door hinge)
@@anusaukko6792 i think it has to do with consistency, sure, Mahito's VA hit those key moments PERFECTLY, but outside of them he was "just" great (just great bein like a 9/10) while Gojo's VA was just incredible in every scene and also hit those key moments perfectly, so while i think that Mahito's VA's best moment ("im just like you") outshined slightly Gojo's VA's best moment ("throughout heaven and earth i alone am the honored one"), i do think that overall Gojo's was just a bit better.

In other news: Brave Bang Bravern apparently exists and it’s literally insane. But it’s not a generic isekai, but a good mecha show, so it’s not really up your alley. Also as for Crunchyroll being popularity contests, of course they are, there’s way too much goddamn anime, so a lot of shows are going to be missed even if they choose all the right candidates
