Who would have thought that this old radio theme tune that us Brits are so familiar with could sound so beautiful. Lovely performance and superb arrangement!!

Oh wonderful! The mandolin is fantastic!
Another Eric Coates composition, Knightsbridge, provided a very evocative signature tune for a long vanished BBC radio programme, “In Town Tonight “. Hubert Bath’s stirring march, “Out of the Blue “ can still be heard introducing “Sports Report” on Saturday evenings on BBC Radio Five Live during the football season. It’s done so since 1948, but had to be restored after being inexplicably, and briefly, replaced in the 1970s.

Only you could manage to dig up a vocal version of that thar lagoon. Tom Hanks was shouting "Wi-i-i-ilson!" when he should have been shouting "E-e-e-eric!" We need a vocal "Barwick Green" to go with this. British Light Music rules the waves (and village greens!) 😁🎶

I play this on the piano and like every arrangement, it comes with its own challenges. In this case, the challenge is to emulate that Harry James tremolo, vibrato especially on those long, sustained notes. Matt does this very well with the mandolin, an instrument particularly well suited for this. This became a signature piece for Harry. My music has a copyright date of 1930. James' recording I believe is from 1941.
