I as 8 years old sitting on St Ives beach in Cornwall. The beach was full of noise and radios. My Dad had one. I remember asking my Dad why all the men were hugging each other and my Dad said we had won the world cup. That was my first real memory of what being a football meant. Many years later having supported Derby County for most of my 64 years, being a football fan and taking those precious memories is what this wonderful game brings .

History Today (July 30) 30 July 1966: England 4-2 West Germany (World Cup Final). In 1966, The Three Lions won the World Cup trophy for the first time.
Interesting to thing that the majority of men there watching that match who were over about 38 years old would have fought against the Germans only 20 years before.
I was 11 yo watching from home on a Council Estate in Oldham ,Lancashire riveted to my seat watching the TV broadcast in black and white. I had to wait weeks to see highlights in colour at The Odeon cinema ! . Believe me when I say that THAT was a better Gt. Britain. Boris Johnson was still a spunk stain on one of his dad’s sock’s.
Englands finest hour, no substitutes, a heavy pitch and ball, extra time and no time wasting and throw a hatrick in too. Hursts second was definitely a goal, Hunts reaction and lack of follow up proves this and footballers were honest then and Hunt confirmed this after the game it was well over the line. The camera angles were poor and can distort the view and modern technology can't prove either way. It does look from the raw footage that it crosses the line and remeber the backspin makes the ball bounce back out at a strange angle quickly after hitting the floor. RIP the greats of 1966 and hopefully Geoff can get to 100 and see England win a World Cup before he passes away.
You should thank the slant-eyed Soviet Azerbaijani linesman and WWII. Modern technology has already made a clearcut decision in the meantime, the ball landed smack on the goalline. To add insult to injury, the Azeri named their national stadium Tofiq Bahramov :-)
This is a single victory for the Germans. And I hope that the wind of history can change the fate of the match. We really must take the victory away from the British. The only reason they have any national achievements is because of Russian stupidity.
As a 9 year old on holidays in Denmark. The "neighbours" at the property of our rented cabin, whose kids my brother and I had made friends with during our stay, had invited us to watch it on TV. Our parents kindly declined with the explanation that on holidays we can take time off from "that box". Therefore, we sat in the cabin, listening to a German radio station reporting the "misery" unfold.
@@ClassicFootball Thank you. And now I feel dumb - I joined the video a couple of minutes in and only just now see it starts with the title "1966 World Cup Final"! Thanks again.
The only colour footage of the game is from the documentary Goal. It's a great doc too and, apart from football, gives a good snapshot of England in 1966.
It is not the full match, but it is all the BBC have. Someone decided to edit it down to fit a two hour slot when it was broadcast on the tenth anniversary in 1976 and the original was not kept. ITV have the full match in lower quality, which is the basis for the colourised version. German TV do possess a copy of the full game recorded on videotape in full quality, and this was rebroadcast at some point in the 90s (I used to have it on VHS)
Two minutes or so of normal time to go, England 2-1 up and in touching distance of the World Cup and they're still on the edge of the West German penalty area attacking. No thoughts of time wasting in them days!
Is this the original commentary? Not one of those retrospective commentaries made decades later? The audio quality sounds a little too good for 1966. Some of the 1986 World Cup games have a worse audio than this.
Fascinating... on the 3rd English goal, Roger Hunt had the best view of the goal. He was right there, only a few yards away,. Hurst later said that Hunt, being the prolific striker that he was, would have fought for the rebound had he thought the ball wasn't over the line. Instead Hunt immediately raised his hand and looked for the referee. I could not find anything online about what Roger Hunt said about Hurst's goal. Kinda interesting... he never said anything???

55 year's later England came very close to winning a 2nd major trophy the Euro's they lost the final by only one penalty in the penalty shootout
A precious memory of Derby would be to pay back the clubs they cheated in 2021

Avevo 8 anni e mi innamorai degli inglesi ❤
Klasse
Good game match England vs Germany never forget that
Yes, great game and no dumb repetitive side ways passing

Hard to believe the England women could possibly achieve the same feat as these did in 2023!

What a good game. When was this match? And why is it in grayscale?
1966 World Cup final
@@ClassicFootball Thank you. And now I feel dumb - I joined the video a couple of minutes in and only just now see it starts with the title "1966 World Cup Final"! Thanks again.
It was the last major football tournament broadcast in black & white. TV transitions were slowly transitioning to colour in the 1960s.
The only colour footage of the game is from the documentary Goal. It's a great doc too and, apart from football, gives a good snapshot of England in 1966.
オールド·ウェンブレーでのドラマ
Who’s watching before the final of euro 2020?
Me! I watched live in 1966 with about 80 people crammed around a 21-inch black and white TV; this time I'll be sitting in a comfy armchair.
Shut up likes beggar
if its the full match, how come its not on for a least 2 hours?
Are you dumb, a football match is 90
Plus extra time is 120 mintues how is that 2 hours??!!
It is not the full match, but it is all the BBC have.

@@PressureOnJulianIt's probably not a match German people like to rewatch tho lol
Germany had second goal wasn't free kick and everybody says england cheeted.😂😂
I love how germany clowns crying about this match😂😂
Germany went on to win 3 more world cups and 3 euro's after losing this match
I think it was the last championship that Great Britain won. In the 1890s, it beat the Germans 11 to 0.

Ja, es ist der original Kommentar vom BBC Reporter Kenneth Wolstenholme.... Der deutsche Tv Reporter war damals Rudi Michel.
It's the original commentry by Kenneth Wolstenholme.
When England were good 👍
14-18, 39-45, 66. Great memories!!
Somme and Passchendaele are great memories for you?

I’m sorry to say it as an Englishman but the football is atrocious it’s so slow.
footballs were a lot HEAVIER in 1966 and so were the boots
