One thing I’ve always struggled with as a gospel drummer was mastering the ghost notes. I’ve always noticed great drummers have so much control and technique that shows when you hear those well placed ghost notes. I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere PA so I didn’t have the big city influence to learn from other drummers and I feel like that’s the one thing that’s missing.
I understand, for sure! & for your ghost notes, you want to play those, with your wrist pointed toward the drum. To practice those, hold your wrists over the snare about 6” and focus on hard taps. That exercise helped me. 👍

LRLRLL Then applied permutation RLRLLL Then orchestration RLRLLK Then dynamics RLRllK Then more Texture > RLRllK K The phrase is 6 notes so in the space of a 1/4 note thats 1/16 triplets. To syncopate play it as straight 1/16 so it moves over the bar line taking 3 measures to resolve. Adding an extra kick at the end but don’t change the subdivision, which further displaces the how the pattern sits in time seemed like another idea that was used. This is a cool lesson on a topic I heard Stanton Moore call “musical mileage.” (Worth looking up the player and phrase!)
Rudiment is a 6 stroke roll, displaced to start on the 5th note and then the first note on the right hand double is substituted with the kick, Goes from, RLLRRL to RLLKRL for the substitution and then displaces to RLRLLK Or a 5 stroke with kick at the end lool

A variation of a paradiddle based on the sticking however you group them in 5’s but the kick is the seasoning you add to complete it
