Yes it is amazing how bagging the past by people who were part of it has now become a sport ? They were great days and all had fun and unlike grunge it was a Good Time For all.
Yeah, I never understood people who trash talk 80s rock/metal. Even during the 90s, although there were some great bands, I thought the general scene was too pretentious and lacked the fun, playfulness of 80s music (and 80s fashion). People teased me for listening to 80s music instead of "The Current Thing," but history is in the process of vindicating bands like Dokken.
The amusing thing is those bagging it were fowling it and jumped aboard the latest thing . I hated and still do all the grunge rubbish and Nirvana have a lot to answer for .

This guitarist is kick ass. Killer heavy riffs, meaningful solos full of memorable melodic phrasing. In a time of go as fast as you can guitar players, it's nice to hear a musician go back to the basics and actually play solos with a pleasant hook again. Great song, keeps you coming back to make sure you didn't miss anything.
Being a professional acoustic drummer for many moons this is currently my favorite song due to the guitar work by Jon Levin and I have always admired Don Dokken. Long live real musicians and Rock and Roll.😊
Wow. This is bad ass. The last I saw Don was in the Hear n Aid video. there is something about true maturity that gives an even greater weight and respect to all of this.
Dokken was a huge part of my childhood and teen years. I listen to them to this day. I'm glad to see he's still rockin', even at 70. Don does a lot of reflecting on fame and life, it seems. "It's Almost Over," from over a decade ago, touched on continuing to make music and perform, and now "I'm a fugitive from life," seems to touch on mortality.

I’m so happy to see this group back at it. They were my second concert I ever went to in the 80s at 15 years old when they opened up for Loverboy at a fair. Security let my friend and I go down in ga. We left my mom in the stands as soon as they came on to go rockin with Dokken. Great concert. Dokken still has the same vocals and sounds that they had back in the day.
Don is without a doubt an Icon in the music world, a triple threat: Singer, Song Writer & Producer, he knows how to take the most simple word(s) and make a hook but even more he knows what classic Dokken is suppose to sound like and captures it with all iterations of the band. Outstanding work man!
He was also once a fine guitar player. He had decent lead abilities too. Breaking the chains is so unique because it's the only album don plays alongside with George. Dokken sounds better with 2 guitar players
Dokken welcome back . Great song . Your one of my favourite bands . I’m so lucky to get another album from you as are your millions of fans around the world. Can’t wait to buy it . Keep on rockin don you still have it

Those power chords and licks, wow. Great production/effects supporting Don's vocals too. This is solid Dokken right here -- take it from an old-fart 80s metalhead who's been a fan of theirs from the start. Thank you Dokken!!
Songs like this is why Dokken is still one of my favorite bands. Their albums are the soundtrack to my life, and the journey has been amazing these past 45 years. Definitely getting the new album.
Don Dokken is a master of melody. Say what you will about his voice here, but those vocal melodies stick with you. Guitarist is great, too. Sounds like Dokken of old, only with an older Dokken. I'll buy this when it comes out.
I saw them in old town Vegas a couple of years ago, and George guested on a couple of songs. I loved the way Don adjusted his voice to fit his capabilities. They absolutely killed it!! And this song is pretty good.
@@Thirdgen83 Believe me, I was already *painfully* aware of that! I've skimmed through a few modern Dokken concerts online. Don barely has a "studio voice" on this song. That's why I'm excited for the new album. I can actually *hear* what he's saying! 😆
Don sounds the same, but without the vocal strength he once had. Then there's a singer like Geoff Tate who still has the power, but doesn't quite sound like the same guy. Time gets us all in some way.
I saw these guys not too long ago and they killed it! We all thought Don sounded really good. The pipes may not be as strong as they were as back in the day but he still did the songs justice and got the job done. Jon Levin was amazing too! All members sounded rock solid! Definitely be on the lookout for Dokken in your town. They were easily the best sounding band on the bill.
Lots of respect for Don. Despite health issues, he's still rawkin and putting out music. This one doesn't disappoint. Can't wait to hear the new album.

This is the best Dokken I have heard since the classic mid-late 80's lineup and output. Don's voice sounds great, and Jon Levin is a beast. I can't tell you how much joy it brings me to see a guy my age (an attorney, no less) out there shredding peoples faces off 🎸! Thank you!
Don looks great in this video, seems like he's been taking good care of himself. That proves to me the dedication he is showing to be the best he can fronting the band while adjusting the new material to his vocal capabilities giving us a new musical perspective...
He's 70 years old, he said in an interview that he's had some health problems and can't play guitar anymore... I guess he means when he writes he can't play guitar because I never saw him on stage with one.
@@metalmike570 Actually, Don used to play lead guitar before he brought George into the band. After 1983-84, I didn't see him playing rhythm guitar on stage anymore; I guess he wanted to focus on his vocals more at the time. But then, in Dokken's acoustic sessions, he is playing again. He had a botched neck and spinal surgery in 2019, and it caused his right arm and hand to be paralyzed, although he's getting some of the movement back. Poor guy has been through a lot.
@@ForeverMPH Much respect for Don Dokken. I know he was a womanizer back in the day but hey, that's rock n'roll for ya. He was and is still a rock star only older and wiser too. There's a lot of these great old metal bands coming back now. Priest with Halford, Saxon with Byford etc...
Fantastic song from Dokken! Don’s voice is so good, Jon has become an amazing guitarist, and the whole band sounds wonderful. Very happy to see and hear Don doing so well, especially after all his health problems. We’re still Rokken with Dokken!
I am 50, a Dokken fan since 1980s, and I can't stop crying. After several bad Dokken albums, Don Dokken the legend without George Lynch Jeff Pilson and Mick Brown will be releasing Dokken's new album. I just watched this new video from the album, it is a total attempt for returning to the roots.Very good song, with truly classic unique Dokken melodies. Once we were all young. Long live Dokken!
Absolutely triumphant. If this is to be the last we hear of Dokken, it's a hell of a bittersweet farewell. All the best to Don and the rest of the band. Your sound is a huge reason the 80s are the pinnacle of American pop culture.
Don Dokkens Vocals have changed, even from Broken Bones, but I really like this song! I don’t expect him to sound like he did in the 80’s or 90’s. The only thing missing here, is George Lynch but I really am enjoying this song. Ive been waiting for a long time for a new Dokken album! Don writes AMAZING songs and no matter how his voice sounds, you can STILL hear Don Dokken. I know this new album will be great!
Fan since 83. I was there for everything metal. I knew the moment I heard Don and the band, we would all grew older together. I still listen to all their albums on vinyl and the turntable. This is great American Metal. Stay true and keep rocking.
About time the youtube algorithm did something right. I haven't been following any bands current, just listening to awesome stuff, like Dokken. So I had no idea a new album was coming. Sounds absolutely grand and that guitar work just hits the spot 👌 Great work guys. Glad to hear you're still nailing it after all these years.
Don is honestly in as good a shape here as he was on Lightning Strikes again ! The song also has the classic Dokken sound, the lyrics are introspective and the symbolism of Don sitting on a throne under the Dokken Logo is not lost on me! Excited to hear the full album 💜
To be able to fight back from what he's gone through, and continue to put out great music like this, is just unbelievable. God bless you Don. Thank you for keeping the spirit alive.
What a great surprise with the new song and upcoming album. Back in the day (middle school) I was a huge fan of the band. For all the Dokken songs that led to great times/memories thanks. I genuinely hope that Don is happy and healthy. Stay safe everyone wish you and those close to you nothing but the best.
@@mbreinin In a way he sounds more like George than George himself. During the reunion it was obvious how George just wasn't the same guitarist anymore. His style changed and doesn't fit Dokken currently. Levin though, fits like a glove
@@MichaelHolmgaard I think George also improvises way too much, his parts hardly ever sound the same as on the record. Jon nails it though, much better live player, he hits every note just like on the album.
That dreamlike quality is still there! I am younger than dokkens most succesful albums, so their music has always been on the radio and was a favorite long before i learned any english. But this one catches me just as much with the lyrics!!! 🤩
Very surprised at how good Don’s voice sounds on this record. I don’t know whether this is a result of studio knob twiddling or Don is really getting his voice back, (I sincerely hope it’s the latter), but it’s always great to hear some new Dokken stuff. This is great.
Rock and Roll rules !!!
they have had voice processors for years, just like guitar processors. I have owned and used many. What blows me away is the way they make that black dude in Alice in Chains sound like Layne. But I agree they had to do some work on this to make Don sound this good. What also trips me out is how Stephen Pearcy of RATT got his voice back naturally. For many years his voice was shot from drinking and smoking, He cleaned his act up and got a vocal coach and he sounds great like he did back in the 80's. He has had cancer too recently and lost alot of weight. He is really doing good now.
I saw this thumbnail and was hesitant at first based on Don's health and what he's had to overcome. This song is amazingly good! It sounds like it can fit right into Up From the Ashes IMO. Great song...strange video but great song. I needed something new from my genre! This is it!
I'm glad to see he's donning (no pun intended) a Cross of Christ .. and I pray he's found Faith in such. I ABSOLUTELY want to attend CONCERTS in Heaven ... like a double-header with STRYPER (check out their track 'Blood From Above' .. amazing) I'm reminded of the great song "TILL THE LIVING END". This songs proves Don can still write hits and still is doing what he loves in spite of some health and age challenges - thanks to Dokken - and i will be buying this when it's released on CD - and I'll keep rokken with Dokken !!!!!
@@michaelmarshall1713 Grunge music was so lame, and now all these millennial/zoomers wanna bring it back with their trendy Nirvana shirts and those stupid fanny packs. I say bring back big hair and epic guitar solos instead.
@@Sam-lm8gi Do you remember Diving For Pearls ? I like the era as it was the USA versions of The UK Glam Scene . All fun good songs no miserable poor me crap.
Classic Dokken sounding. Great guitar tone. Jon is a great player.
Holy crap, the guitar tone, fills and solo are next level. Beautifully balanced and clear.
Sure Don may be unable to hit those classic highs we all remember and love, but he's been doing it for decades, to me there's still something about his tambre and vocal phrasing that keeps me coming back... His songwriting is all his own, still remains top shelf, and he always finds solid players... Jon IMHO has been the closest to capturing that killer Lynch tone!!!
I'll continue to support his musical vision! 👍🎶🤘
well said. Totally agree about the guitarist and sound
@@juvenalmartinez7960 sometimes I swear it's Lynch had you not told me and I'm a massive Lynch fan. I recall a post where they even met and George said he did those songs justice! It doesn't get any better!
New dokken!!?? Holy shit, I renovated my entire house while blasting these guys. They still sound awesome, and they're still Dokken, didn't cave to new trends, they're still the sound I love
Funny- I framed, insulated, hung tin, and ran the electrical for the interior in my shop listening to Dokken, Ratt, Hardline, and Winger. Those were the four cassettes I had out there and I didn’t have a Bluetooth receiver hooked up yet lol
Hey...I'll gladly throw on sum Dokkin so you can come over and renovate MY house! It seriously needs it! I'll even throw in your favorite brew in my fridge for ya!😃😃👍👍🎸🎸🎸🎤🎤🥁🥁

Total dokken vibe....I'll be purchasing this
Don has been thru medical hell so it's so great to see him back in action. This tune is 🔥! Jon has proven once again he understands his assignment and what it means to Dokken fans. Keep Rokken Boyz!
Dokken's new album is always welcome... Gives a breath and a touch of nostalgia in these dark days. Thank you.
Yes this song Sounds Good, Nostalgia? well No original members But Don
he should just call this band " Don Dokken" like his 1990 solo Album.
@@MetalHeart8787 reunion happened, but most of bands have no original members (at all) now and they still may comfort you by listening. We need original members to stablish nostalgia? Yeah! Musicians change and move, but they keep walking despite of that... Your point is valid but feelings may came up with music.
Agree.. These days are Dark.. The Music is literally a time machine.

@Classic_DM Yes. John Levin is killer.
That would be the very talented guitarist/attorney Jon Levin . Dude is super cool too
Love that guitar
@@toma.4808No kidding, he's amazing
Being a professional acoustic drummer for many moons this is currently my favorite song due to the guitar work by Jon Levin and I have always admired Don Dokken. Long live real musicians and Rock and Roll.😊
Impressive and true to their sound throughout. Big props to Don and the boys.
Sound is straight from the 80’s, impressive to keep it 80’s in today’s recordings
not really, the drums are still too bombastic and in your face compared to the 80s standard, check out Enforcer "Nostalgia" and hear the difference
1. The song is fantastic, sounds like proper old school Dokken
2. The video is so campy ridiculously great, did Michael Scott direct it 😎👍
hahhahahhahahahahahha yesss, i love
Lol very possible…
Great scott production
Agree - sounds like the best of Dokken ☘️😊❤️🙏🫖
The video is cringe. It almost completely ruined the song, but I listened without watching the video and the song is fantastic
Wow. This is bad ass. The last I saw Don was in the Hear n Aid video. there is something about true maturity that gives an even greater weight and respect to all of this.
Don has brought us some really great tunes through the years. This is another one! I'm glad Don is still writing, singing, and sharing his music!
You can't expect to hear the voice he once has.voices change with age.Don did an excellent job with this song.
maybe you should research his medical issues. it is more than just age.
They were a part of my teenage years as well. I've always thought that Dokken's songs have a lot of meaning.
AMAZING song and video guys!!! Still Rokken with Dokken like it was 1981 again!!! Thank you all for the great music and memories!!! Love the outfit Don… that’s such a classic style… looking very “Back for the attack” … LOVE IT!!! Stay healthy and stay safe!!! God bless you all!!! 🙏🏻🙂🤘🏻😝

Oh yes I have seen Tesla many times too, they are awesome! 😁Yes you guessed my RUclips name. 🤘80’s were incredible partying and rock n roll!
Cheers to dokken 🎉still
Rocking today 🔥

He actually doesn't sound to bad. They did wonders in processing maybe. But I like it that saying was good
I heard he had vocal cord surgery? Among other issues
I like the fact that this kind of bands come back again with a new album. The song is great!!!
I saw them in old town Vegas a couple of years ago, and George guested on a couple of songs. I loved the way Don adjusted his voice to fit his capabilities. They absolutely killed it!! And this song is pretty good.
Things are always changing- but one thing that always stays the same is Dokken’s ability to create amazing, melodic rokken songs!
Diffently got the melody and the voice to go with it
Rokken with Dokken!
Don's vocals aren't the strongest but they were so much better than I was expecting. This new album, which comes out in the fall, sounds promising! 🤓👍
That's the magic of the recording studio. He'll never pull it off live.

This is the best Dokken I have heard since the classic mid-late 80's lineup and output. Don's voice sounds great, and Jon Levin is a beast. I can't tell you how much joy it brings me to see a guy my age (an attorney, no less) out there shredding peoples faces off 🎸! Thank you!
Don's voice sounds great?
@@scottstember3933 For 70 you bet your ass.
yes it does.
Don sounds completely horrible and that's with studio effects
@@scottstember3933 Can barely hear his voice. I think they did that for a reason....

I think the only bad album was shadowlife the last 3 were badass imho
I really liked Reb Beach on Erase The Slate
Broken bones is very good
There's the Dokken I've loved for years. So glad to hear new music from them.
Absolutely triumphant. If this is to be the last we hear of Dokken, it's a hell of a bittersweet farewell.
All the best to Don and the rest of the band. Your sound is a huge reason the 80s are the pinnacle of American pop culture.
It had to be amazingly awesome, to follow the 70's you had to bring your a game.
Lynch is missing, but the guitarist on this song, I believe his name is Jon Levin, does an incredible job!

Don is honestly in as good a shape here as he was on Lightning Strikes again ! The song also has the classic Dokken sound, the lyrics are introspective and the symbolism of Don sitting on a throne under the Dokken Logo is not lost on me!

Very surprised at how good Don’s voice sounds on this record. I don’t know whether this is a result of studio knob twiddling or Don is really getting his voice back, (I sincerely hope it’s the latter), but it’s always great to hear some new Dokken stuff. This is great.

Wow this is killer. I love it. Dokken has always been one of my top five bands. Very happy to hear him again. 🙏🏾❤️✌🏾🤘🏾
Whatever studio magic they used on his voice, they did great just getting him to sound like this. Great job and Levin cooks as always.
they have had voice processors for years, just like guitar processors.
I ABSOLUTELY want to attend CONCERTS in Heaven ... like a double-header with STRYPER (check out their track 'Blood From Above' .. amazing)
