The kit sounds incredible. Don't be fooled, Steve Maxwell is a very fine player. He would make a cardboard box and a plastic bag sound special.

Nice nice nice. Art would be impressed with your chops Steve. I'm a huge Blakey fan and devotee of his unique style and sound. Art played several makes of drums during his long career, most notably Gretsch, and briefly, the Italian-made Hollywood Drums. Then later, Pearl til the end. No matter what brand he played, as soon as you heard it, you KNEW it was Art. Those great press rolls on the snare, the incessant hi-hat, and his toms were pure Africa in their tone. Sad to learn of his son's passing. I wasn't aware of this tragedy until now. Art gave so many great young talents their start. I'm just wondering what happened to all the drums Art owned over the years. Guessing all the many tours and gigs Art did, took their toll.

WOW !..Fiberglass shells are something special.. I just recently acquired a vintage Pearl President 5 piece drum kit with Phenolic shells, and they're so warm and punchy..The finish is a beautiful and rare gold Grain Pearl.. Great sounding kit in this video, and playing as usual, Mr.Maxwell ;) Cheers !

Yeah Steve! A number of drummers really liked the fiberglass resonance back over the years. Grady Tate and Alan Dawson both played Fibes at different points of their careers as well. You also played the solo in an Art Blakey style...that did not go unnoticed. Art was so tribal. Love it!

Man, I'd love that snare on my drums kit! Do they make a 3-ply maple-poplar-maple with re-rings by any chance?

+Curt Landis -So you think that 2 minutes straight of drumming isn't enough ? What did you expect from a demo ? A 20 minute solo ? A "demo" means just that.. A short "demonstration" video of the kit.. I think Mr.Maxwell featured more than enough time on these great drums..Furthermore, "More of the drums...less of featuring the drummer!" LOL ! What does that even mean ? Without the drummer, there is no "more of the drums being played.".. With that being said, i mean no harshness.. I just found your comment hilarious.. Peace..

Curt Landis Son you need a good lesson on what a drummers drummer is, cause your clearly out in left field somewhere! Try giving it another listen but don't watch, just listen to his technique.
