Nsmith99 Thanks! Steve
jesus christ you're a good drummer. i'm a huge Art Blakey fan and i love the vintage Pearls, so thank you for all of this
That's some of the best drumming I've seen in a while!
VanLuedewich Thanks!!!
The kit sounds incredible. Don't be fooled, Steve Maxwell is a very fine player. He would make a cardboard box and a plastic bag sound special.
Those Pearls sound incredible!!! Fantastic playing as well!
Mr Maxwell, I love what you sell, I love your kits, I love your playing and I love your tuning. I just lost about 10 hours watching your RUclips channel. Don't stop!
Totally agree. Steve's knowledge of drums and history is amazing, and his playing is top notch. Love it!
R.A. Thanks!!
Nice nice nice. Art would be impressed with your chops Steve. I'm a huge Blakey fan and devotee of his unique style and sound. Art played several makes of drums during his long career, most notably Gretsch, and briefly, the Italian-made Hollywood Drums. Then later, Pearl til the end. No matter what brand he played, as soon as you heard it, you KNEW it was Art. Those great press rolls on the snare, the incessant hi-hat, and his toms were pure Africa in their tone. Sad to learn of his son's passing. I wasn't aware of this tragedy until now. Art gave so many great young talents their start. I'm just wondering what happened to all the drums Art owned over the years. Guessing all the many tours and gigs Art did, took their toll.
Blakey played Sonor at the end.
Always a pleasure tol listen to you play these beautiful drums my good friend !!!
WOW !..Fiberglass shells are something special.. I just recently acquired a vintage Pearl President 5 piece drum kit with Phenolic shells, and they're so warm and punchy..The finish is a beautiful and rare gold Grain Pearl.. Great sounding kit in this video, and playing as usual, Mr.Maxwell ;) Cheers !
Great playing Steve...amazing chop you have there! Can't believe 1 person to date has given you a thumbs down...absolutely no appreciation for great drumming!
Hi Steve, I love your playing! I was in your drum shop in 2014, but I didn't saw vintage Pearls, this is an amazing acquisition for your museum! Congratulations!
Great playing Steve...amazing chops you have there! Can't believe 1 person to date has given you a thumbs down...absolutely no appreciation for great drumming! Keep up the good work!
Now that sound send me to the moon.. grate piece..
Yeah Steve! A number of drummers really liked the fiberglass resonance back over the years. Grady Tate and Alan Dawson both played Fibes at different points of their careers as well. You also played the solo in an Art Blakey style...that did not go unnoticed. Art was so tribal. Love it!
Lou Contino Thanks Lou!!!
Wonderful playing!
awsome video! first time viewer and just subscribed. love your playing so much
It is an authentic machine gun of rudiments, nice and jazzy old school taste, congratulations.
Great playing Steve😉
Steve is amazing!
One of your best solo there Steve . If not the best ! Very nice sounding Drums and playing as I said . Good Stuff !
Thanks!
Super!
great playing
This guy's geeking right out :)
Not a pearl fan, BUT-
I JUST LOVE THOSE CRAVIOTTO'S!
Great solo man!
Hey steve, this kit is a Mid 70's kit. By the way, love your drumming!
I was gonna say, I had a 9 piece kit in the same color & I bought them in 74. Still have them too!
That SNARE.......
I think you mean from the mid 70s!
Man, I'd love that snare on my drums kit! Do they make a 3-ply maple-poplar-maple with re-rings by any chance?
What was the original Pearl snare used with this kit.
That kits from the 70s not the 80s.
Love Steve Maxwell! But I keep thinking he's interchangeable with Bun E. Carlos ;)
Steve, if you were selling ice water, you could tell eskimos how goooood it is!! Ahhhhh....
+brandonhill72 Yes, you are correct: Steve is a remarkable salesman: He can take any drum's damage, defect or flaw and turn it into a selling feature! :)
What happened to Art’s original snare.?
the drums are nice but the real deal in this video is the drummer himself!!
Timon Martinez Thanks! Steve
Should have used a Pearl snare with this kit, to be fair.
No wonder those snares are very expensive... paying for sound and quality.
jesus christ what a drum solo.
fuck.
Thanks!
Great sounding drums -- terrible cymbals though.
Exactly! How dare Meinls be in the same universe as Art Blakey.
More of the drums...less of featuring the drummer!
+Curt Landis -So you think that 2 minutes straight of drumming isn't enough ? What did you expect from a demo ? A 20 minute solo ? A "demo" means just that.. A short "demonstration" video of the kit.. I think Mr.Maxwell featured more than enough time on these great drums..Furthermore, "More of the drums...less of featuring the drummer!" LOL ! What does that even mean ? Without the drummer, there is no "more of the drums being played.".. With that being said, i mean no harshness.. I just found your comment hilarious.. Peace..
Curt Landis Son you need a good lesson on what a drummers drummer is, cause your clearly out in left field somewhere! Try giving it another listen but don't watch, just listen to his technique.
