I feel like if they had done 3rd person everyone would be saying it just looks like Uncharted or Tomb Raider. Which is funny because those franchises clearly took inspiration from Indy.
100% agree
Facts!
I agree but also is there not room to advance the genre and make this its own in 3rd person game? This could have been a chance for Xbox to make the next gen uncharted/croft type of game in their own way and advance the genre of action adventure. Yeno have xbox be the home of this type of game.
1st person looks a bit clunky
But only if you played the Uncharted or Tomb Raider games which I never have
exactly this. I think they felt they needed it to have it's own feel and identity. we'll see if it paid off
I felt the same about cyberpunk 2077 being first person only and it grew on me, not everygame has to be 3rd person seeing how recently there are less games with the 1st person view
The reason we have so many 3rd person games today is to sell skins.
Cyber punk would be terrible in third person
This Game Immediately evoked Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay style gameplay and I loved that honestly. Especially with the 3rd person during Cinematics or traversal then back to first person with general combat. Ended up finding out that Machine Games devs originally worked on Riddick with Starbreeze and so it now makes sense.
Wait. That’s awesome. Just rebought butcher bay + Athena chronicles for ps3…still looks awesome
YUP! They did The Darkness as well! You can feel all of those games' DNA really well in the Wolf games.

Honestly, I was fully expecting this to be Wolfenstein: Indiana Jones. And that sounds great to me.
F*ck, that does sound awesome!
I’m surprised they went with machine games because they are such an FPS focused studio, but because it’s Machine Games you KNOW it’s gonna be fun as hell and have super satisfying gameplay.
I believe it was because they wanted an FPS Indiana Jones game

@adrian_shepherd4003 Yeah because all we need is more tomb raider/Ubisoft clones...
The punches in the face gave me that "yea ok, this is Indiana Jones" moment too lol
I heard a Wilhelm scream in the trailer, and it got me hoping that all of the sound effects will be like old 80s movies/ programmes, like when dudes used to punch each other on the A-Team and it made that familiar, unrealistic smacking sound.
I actually thought the indiana jones game looked exactly like I expected. First person with third person camera for things like climbing. A good focus on narrative, puzzle solving and some fun uses for the whip. I'm looking forward to seeing how this comes together.
Very much reminded me of Deus Ex, so I'm excited 😆
I trust Machine Games to make this into the best game they can. Never really being into the Indiana Jones franchise, this seems very exciting.
Agreed. It has everything to do with Machine Games pedigree so far. Unlike everything else on display during the event, I still have trust in what they're invested in unlike BGS and others of their ilk.
@jynxce To be fair, Bethesda might as well be invested in it too. It's a passion project for Todd Howard and Machine Games works under Bethesda Softworks
Wolfenstien > uncharted
I really hope it turns out good
Yeah. Am Not feeling 1st person Indy either.
As a person who ended up even making an Indiana Jones hat themselves, I am super excited for this game and I just really hope that it will run on my steam deck because I had to get rid of my PC
Is my hat better.
I thought the villain sounded like he was voiced by Troy Baker too, maybe everyone is voiced by Troy Baker and it's an Eddie Murphy in Nutty Professor kind of thing. I wish the guy who played The Joker in the Telltale games got it though because he does a solid Ford impression.
Looks like they absolutely nailed it with capturing a true Indiana Jones feel. From his facial expressions to the NPC reactions to getting punched in the face to the music. I'm all in!
🤦♂🤦♂
Agree. The character model looks great. Really helps to make it feel familiar. It may not be legal to use Harrison Ford exactly but they got it just close enough that it doesn't matter to me
If the graphics are consistent, this could be a good game
1st person is kinda lame for Indy, though
The animations look horrible. The voicing and lips are off. The characters are stiff...This game doesn't look good.
It feels like it's been forever since we've had a licensed game where the devs had the balls to put you in the titular characters shoes rather than have them on screen as much as humanly possible.

Indiana Jones has already had a few 3rd person interpretations in the past. So It's refreshing to see this jump to 1st person. On first impressions, looks like Machine Games has done a great job with it.
That was over 20 years ago... I much would of rather have a 3rd person game.

I'm glad they took a risk and made it first person, its gonna be fun
Actually, being first person is sticking to their strengths lol the only risk is upsetting people who can't enjoy first person games for some weird reason
I'm glad...I want to be Indy not watch him ....this is great
Yeah, good FPS adventure games don’t come along too often. Might get this and Metroid Prime 4 in the same year. Fingers crossed

The way he whipped to distract the enemy to take him out from behind looked so school
I think Troy Baker is doing awesome (from what we've heard) voicing Indy. Maybe it's just me but he sounds dead on. Can't wait for this game.
Same thing with whoever voices Marcus Brody.
The pitch and inflection seems really on point with Harrison Ford, definitely took me a while to accept it wasn't just Ford
@@StingRayo98there’s no need to act like that because someone has a different opinion than you
It really does sound pretty dead on, sometimes it fluctuates but from what I’ve heard I think he was a great choice to voice Indy
I’m a huge Harrison Ford fan, have been for years. So when I heard the voiceover I thought it was him. The actor has nailed it, if Ford was to voice it today he’d sound too old and gravelly…sorry Indy..This guy sounds like a younger Jones, so yeah it’s all good and I look forward to the game.
It's exactly what I was expecting.
I wasn't expecting first person
@@JakeBaldino Its Machine Games. I figured there was an 80% chance of it being an FPS.
Jake Baldino jump scare
Same here. Because I knew MachineGames was developing it, I was expecting it to be first person because that’s what they’re known for.
It looks like it has 3rd person in specific situations but sticks mostly to first. I'm all for it. It does make it more distinct from the other Indy-likes out there, and I fully trust MachineGames knows what they're doing with that decision.
One thing that is missing from this gameplay is disguises. Indy disguises himself (mainly as a Nazi) in the original films. It would be such a missed opportunity if there isn't a Hitman style disguise mechanic that allows you to tackle situations differently than just stealth or all guns blazing. With unique dialog and story tied to those disguises.
Great point! I can imagine at the very least one whole disguise scene in the game. It feels obligatory
@@JakeBaldino yea I assume there will be a part of the story where he’s disguised, but if it was a totally optional part of the gameplay it be so much better. most games could learn a little from the Hitman games tbh ha
I really would have liked it in 3rd person.
As an Obsidian fan boy, Avowed is definitely my most anticipated game this year. I like the direction they're going with the combat, but I hope they do a bit more to distinguish it from TES games in some way other than just the hot swappable loadouts. And while this showcase didn't do a great job showing off narrative elements, that's the one thing Obsidian consistently nails so I'm not worried, especially with a PoE veteran in Carrie Patel at the helm.
I'm with you on that one 🫡 And I'm sure it will have its own identity! They made such a great job with outer worlds. I feel pretty confident 🤞
I have no doubt in Carrie's abilities, as she has done some great stuff with Obsidian. However, Avowed hasn't really hit me like I'd hope it would. Hopefully it'll be better when it's finally released and I'll really enjoy it.
I also feel a bit bad for Josh Sawyer, as I feel this isn't really what Eora should.
The best option would be to include both 1st person and 3rd person view that the player can choose between.
I typically much prefer 3rd person because it causes less motion sickness.
Lots of great games in 1st person.
Not all games work, with an option for 1st and 3rd person perspectives.
I agree that would be nice to have both options, alltho I like first person too because u kind of feel more like u are in the characters shoes and in that gameworld. But first person view does not work well in every game. Let see how it works in Indian Jones.
FACTS! It would've been better if they made the game both 1st person for the people who like that perspective and 3rd person, for people like me, who like that perspective! Good comment 👊🏿
Troy Baker did such a good job with the Indy impersonation. Excited for this title!
3:37 Yeah. The face punching would’ve sold me as well. 😅
Super hyped about this game! I hope they can do better with a series of games than they did with the movies after "The Last Crusade". We also always need new adventure/archeological/fantasy type games.
switching the camera perspective every time you climb a ladder or rotating a puzzle piece is crazy, I think they should limit it to cutscenes like CoD campaigns.
3rd person would be a great throwback to Temple of Doom.
Lmao. It actually looked exactly what I imagined when they first announced it. I was stunned when I saw the first-person footage. Looks amazing.
Troy baker voicing Indi makes it even better!
sounds like he's doing decent. Ford is a tough act to follow for anyone
The voice acting is amazing by baker
Does it
I'm honestly tired of hearing him in everything
@@shazz3r5only cuz you know who it is, you've heard 100s of repeat performances without even thinking about it
Game looks great but I’m 100% in agreement with you! The idea that 1st person is supposed to be the ideal way to experience this is undercut by the fact that they are switching back and forth between perspectives. For me the perspective comes down to what is the game about? It’s Indy, a huge IP., I want to see myself playing as Indy. It’s akin to my issues with Cyberpunk, I make all these cosmetic choices making a character I want to watch that character in action. Same with Indy. Also I keep seeing the same response of “people would compare it to Uncharted”, thats such a silly argument. You don’t make decisions because people will compare your character to the other games that were inspired by your character!
Who said first person is the ideal ? They choose to go with first person cause it would work better with the combat they designed, and switching between perspective isn’t a problem
Yep, I'm of the camp that this game would be better in 3rd person. I want to see Indy if I'm playing Indy.
At this rate we'll never know if MachineGames can successfully make a 3rd person game.
@@ni9274 Todd Howard literally said it in the video.
@@langleymneely he always exaggerate
I have no preference between 1st and 3rd but things like the spider crawling on your arm scene clearly works better in 1st person view than in 3rd. Both Indiana and Machine Games do not shy away from a little bit of horror and 1st person does make scenes like that more, well personnal.
1st person also give a different feel than 3rd in Stealth gameplay as your cone of vision is more restricted.
Whether 1st or 3rd is better for me depends more on how it'll mesh with the other gameplay mechanics and general feel of the game. And we won't know that with a few minutes of footage.
Speaking on the music aspect of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, I believe that the game is in good hands with Gordy Haab, because he has already worked on music for the Staff of Kings, SW:ToR, Battlefront & Battlefront 2, Jedi: Fallen Order & Survivor, and MultiVersus. It sounds really good for me and it was nice to hear some familiar music now and then.
I think first person allows them to differentiate themselves from something like the uncharted series. I feel like this seems like a good hybrid as well with larger actions such as swinging and high action being set in 3rd person. I’m excited over all.
If it's not broke, don't fix. It should of been like Uncharted. Platforming and fist fighting just works so so much better in 3rd person.
@@jahimjauh-hey5653 it's not about fixing it's about doing something different. If every company went by ur logic we would still be playing only side scroller games and tetris

I'm excited for Indy! Didn't expect 1st person, but it looks like it loves the source material
I feel the same Way
Yeah we’ll see how much they love the “source material” when they showed who their senior narrative person is and that they’re making it suitable for “modern gaming audiences”
This looks fantastic!! So pumped
Part of indiana jones film franchise is seeing him fight and run around, imagine if the newer indiana jones movies having the action scenes in first person camera view? Action movies have done it for a few seconds during a specific scene, its the most xbox thing that they continue to release. Hopefully blade is 3rd person
I did the same thing when I saw FP instead of 3rd.
Pretty excited to explore ancient ruins in avowed and Indiana jones
I was obsessed with Indiana Jones as a kid, I have high hopes for this
Hey Jake! Your videos are awesome. I always wanna know what you have to say before I buy a game. I love to see your passion for a well crafted, well helmed game and you've pointed me to a couple of my favorite series and games
Honestly looks sick, was already a big fan of both the wolfenstein reboot and the Indiana jones series and I'm very excited!
Would be good to have 1st and 3rd switchable camara 1st person for puzzles and stuff 3rd for general overlay of the landscape where we decide which camara we choose
This is what I was hoping when I seen it
I didnt see a video about it on your channel so whats your thoughts on Dragon's Dogma 2?
Great video Jake. Long time viewer. Appreciate your good natured affect. Keep it up.
Im glad it’s not what I expected. Perhaps it will be something I never knew I needed this whole time.
I’m glad it’s in FP. Otherwise to me it would just feel like another uncharted re-skinned as Indiana Jones.
Nice shoutout for the "Wilhelm Scream," and yeah, wow. That is a nice touch in-game. And damn, I REALLY want Avowed to be good.
I'm not even the biggest fan on 1st person myself, but I can see that working. As long as they provide several opportunities for you to see your character in game (like Deus Ex series does when in cover or doing other things), I believe you will still feel attached to the character. Voice Over will also play a very big role there, especially for the moments when you see only the hands.
I'm a game developer and content creator myself, and several games that I expected to be 3rd person went on to be played in 1st person but turned out very good - like Alien Isolation. So let's see! Definitely a capable team behind the game.
I am sold on this game, I love Indiana Jones so much and I can’t wait to play this and see where the story goes
Completely agree! I wanted a fully 3rd person game, but this game looks phenomenal and won me over! Even tho I’m disappointed it’s not fully 3rd
Hey, Jake. Where did you get the yellow letter Metal Gear Tshirt? I Love It!!
This Indy trailer genuinely hyped me up. Which for some reason is really hard to do lately. I’m thanking Machine Games for doing something interesting with the gameplay convinced me first person was the right choice in the trailer. Plus the whole jumping from one plane to another was so dope.
This will be great in VR. :) The problem with video games portraying Han and Indy, it costs a lot of money to have Harrison's actual likeness. I worked with the designer for the Indy pinball machine back in the day, they had the license for "Indy", but not Harrison, so they actually had to go out of their way to make him not look like Harrison, while still capturing the flavor of the Indiana Jones character. Also, when you get down to it, the Wolfenstein games were basically Indiana Jones games in spirit, with all the Nazi killing.
Legit machine games might as well change their name to Nazi killing games at this point lol.
That's me one issue with the first person. It looks like it should be VR combat.
I felt the same way about the 1st person Jake, until I watched the gameplay vid like 5 more times. It looks like it’s gonna work well in 1st person. Especially the exploration parts. Also if the whip, and gunplay mechanics are done well, it looks like it will be fun. Like for instance if you could disarm an enemy with your whip, and grab their gun in the same motion. Could be some cool combat gameplay mechanics. Also if it was 3rd person, it would Undoubtably be too much like Uncharted.
It would work very well for VR as well
You could do the whip and weapon steal in Emperor's Tomb.
And if it went first person, it wouldn't be too much like uncharted, since uncharted didn't invent the genre.
Uncharted is too much like Indy
@@mikewazowski8368 I know Uncharted is basically an Indiana Jones knockoff. But what I’m saying is, if they made the game 3rd person, it would likely play, and look like the current Uncharted games. Going 1st person will make the gameplay different.

@@daksans6764 Uncharted copied Indiana Jones, and Tomb Raider. But the Uncharted games are better than the Tomb Raider games. So I wouldn’t call it a poor mans version.
I saw a dev interview.... the reason for 1st person is because you get the look and feel of Indiana Jones trough his eyes and i Agree 100%. I saw some gameplay and it looked absolutely briliant from that perspective... pure genius.
With everything getting remakes/remasters, I wouldn't complain if we got an Emperors Tomb remake with tighter controls cause platforming, fighting, and shooting are all pretty clunky but it was a good game.
I feel like I'm the only person that wasn't disappointed and was pleasantly surprised by it being an FPS.
I'm glad they're doing something unique and that uses the strengths of their studio and isn’t just an Uncharted rip-off that stars Indy like what the Survivor Trilogy Tomb Raider games did.
It's crazy to think that not too long ago everybody was complaining that every single player game was a 3rd person narrative driven action game 😅 how the tables have turned
If you notice in the trailer, they actually did the famous wilhelm scream at 1.35. Something that was done in most of the old movies.
I get enough 3rd person over the shoulder games on my playstation. It's refreshing to get a good 1st person game of this type
This does look great. I don't mind it being 1st person, but I am curious how will that combat with whip turn out. It looks a bit strange at first
It looks fantastic and this is coming from a person who prefers third person gameplay.
Love Indy this will be a great title.
Can’t express how disappointed I am that it’s first person, I want to SEE Indy
when it was announced that the game was being done by machine games I had a feeling it would be in first person and I was a bit disappointed that I was right. but the fact that the game switches back and forth between first and third person depending on the action (ala riddick), that means there is always a full character model, so the possibility of them adding a full third person mode, or even better, the ability to switch between first and third on the fly (ala suffering) is not out of the realm of possibility.
I'll be completely honest, I haven't been truly excited for a game since maybe Fallout 4 (although that turned out to for naught), but I'm finding myself excited about this in particular. Whatever one can say about how the combat and level design progressed throughout the Wolfenstein games, the story was solid and the 'ride' of the game was overall enjoyable. If they can replicate that in the Indiana Jones universe, with cinematic cutscenes broken up by stealth sections, action setpieces and puzzles, with the usual Machinegames polish... Like i said, i don't normally buy into hype culture, but I'm very excited for this release.
I like the first person thing. It makes the game its own thing.
We have so many 3rd person over the shoulder adventure games. I’m happy it’s first person because my initial thought when they announced it was it’s going to be really similar to tomb raider/uncharted. I’m glad there’s a big focus on puzzles too and 1st person seems like the best fit for that.
Strongly disagree, we have too many 1st person games. So if someone made a 1st person military game, will you say that game is similar to a COD or a Battlefield?
@@KennyJordana There’s a lot more 3rd person adventure games out there than 1st person. Yes if someone made a first person military shooter, of course comparisons would be made to both those games. That’s literally like making 2 separate games
low-key happy to see a fresh first person take on this action-adventure treasure hunting genre and the gameplay seems quite fun. we've got enough 3rd person games in this genre, i.e., uncharted and tomb raider games. while it would've been fun to have this in third person im still quite excited to see how it impacts gameplay and if it feels different from the existing games in this genre.
Are you kidding? - I am totally stoked for this!
I reckon it’s cheaper to make a game in first person rather than third, because you don’t have to animate in a whole bunch of character movements, and that cuts down development time/ is simpler. Also, they probably realised they can’t compete with Naughty Dog in the 3rd person realm, so are trying to dodge that bullet by going first person, and maybe even trying to stand out, cause it probably looks exactly like uncharted or even Tomb Raider in third person.
I agree though, at least a 3rd person option would have been good, the silhouette of Indi in his hat and with his whip is what our eyes want to see when playing the game.
Totally agree! They missed the mark with first person but I will try it as I am fan.
Hey Jake, it's also interesting to say that, if I'm not mistaken, Ninja Theory has said that Saga was gonna make the first game feel like an indie game or something like that, and now they mentioned that "shorter experience" thing. Still excited for the game, but i thought that was weird
