  • What do you think is going on? I've never had it happen before.

I had just transferred these bees into a timber box for a client, and they immediately absconded, leaving all their brood behind. I caught them and put them back in the box, but they went again.

So, I decided to donate the brood to another colony and treat these bees as a swarm, giving them a fresh start in a HiveIQ EPS box. The good news is that they approve of the new box!

I also explain how I use smoke when handling swarms and why I never use my smoker until I have found the queen.

    Это потрясающе 👍👍👍
Как же все по-разному работают с пчёлами)
А почему не стряхнуть сразу в домик?

That is strange. I've never had it happen.

    Sounds like they are swarming

This is an interesting video. As an experienced beekeeper, I learn a little something from films like this. I already use sugar spray. But I might in the future put my swarms in a box with a few old comb frames. I felt for you when bees crawled up your t-shirt.

A lot of people put old combs the box with swarms but I don’t for two reasons: 1. Old frames have the pheromones of the old colony on them and can create confusion and lead to the swarm absconding. 2. Swarms are primed to build new comb and will draw out beautiful new combs for you, especially if feed copious amounts of thin sugar syrup.
      Just something to consider 👍
