- Duels have always been fun in Elden Ring, but the arenas and game modes available have always been far from ideal from providing a seamless pvp experience. In this video I explain those issues, and showcase a high quality mod that intends to fill the gap the game has left, at least for fight clubs, 1v1 sessions, and tournaments.

Hey it ain’t that bad (well, it is but), there’s communities springing up for the consoles as well that are making due with the base game as well as they can! Keep in mind that new gen consoles also get the privilege of stable performance in areas PC players could only dream of.

These modders need to make a simulated invasion mode with asymmetry, mobs, and objectives. That is souls PvP at its finest.
Could be an objective based gamemode, prevent the host from reaching the boss.
This would be the next step, I think. The hybridization of PvPvE that's unique to Souls. It's probably an immense amount of work.
Im fully convinced that if we ever get 4v2 in elden ring invasions, its going to be coming from the modders
@@lukelofquist3734 This is how DS3 Ringed City invasions always felt like. And by "always" I mean when the host wasn't summoning a whole gank squad and estus cancelling 24/7.
@@jacobestersoninner walls minigame was the best - the host and summons try to reach the next bonfire, while invaders try to stop them by gradually falling back and using strong mobs to their advantage. The section with harald knights was always the most chaotic and hilarious.

Ngl in terms of barrier for entry, all the downloading, moving around files, etc. part is really going to prevent some people from ever attempting this 😅

This is very true, still, I wanna put it out there because it’s a great option that I and a lot of other pvp ppl have even pretty thankful for. And it’s not like we don’t play the regular game.

@@Sliznark installing elden ring mods is very easy tho just move files around do exactly as the video says. much easier than other modded games :P like skyrim for example, some mods in there are crazy weird to install haha
its pretty simple tbh, anyone who has used mods before should have no issue getting this running.
i really do think this is easily the best elden ring channel, the edits are good and you display lots of knowledge in topics. please keep making videos and maybe recommending them to fromsoft, you are elden rings saving grace

This may sound like a jest, but the way ER pressed its fanbase by lack of support/content/complexity/balance seems to have created a particularly unique pocket of PvP-minded modding. In no other previous Souls game did I see this level of investment in idealizing just what kind of potential the PvP had, though I might be ignorant here.
This is extra impactful considering that From isn't done with ER themselves, which means that a very small, very specific, set of people were faster and smarter than the developers.
I mean it’s not even just in PvP, look at Seamless Co-op. It’s just an objectively better experience than vanilla co-op cuz it’s just the scuffed co-op of previous games but without the cool RPG/covenant elements. They would have have to really outdo themselves on the design of co-op to make ppl prefer it over what seamless offers.

Outside of the PvP community, it is indeed rather frequent to see players recommend each other seamless co-op. Perhaps more than frequent - just standard at this point that if a casual player is putting out content of themselves playing with friends, someone will show up in the comments to let them know the mod exists.
Well, Dark Souls did have Remastest, that added in Halo levels for PvP and massively increased how many people could play at once. Honestly the most fun I had in that game.
To be fair, FromSoft is not known to be good at technical side. They are one of the best for game design, like world building or gameplay. The ideal way for them to do is to co-op with people that are better at technical side, and they stick to the game designing side.
@@dominiccastsI just finished my first run of that mod, and I enjoyed the hell out of trying to run a Doc/O'Malley run with just a plasma pistol and rocket launcher: running past enemies when possible and lighting bosses up with the SPNKr

unfortunately the lack of ping filter in the game and the fact that disabling cross-region doesn't seem to do anything means that blocking other players on steam is the only thing you can do to avoid high latency, which isn't really a solution since it only prevents you to matching with this one person at a time but it's better than nothing I guess
Cross region is a Japanese exclusive feature. Because of course it is.
@@lususnaturae881 That's just a Miyazaki's cheap trick to at least mute JP players' complaints as if they don't do this, JP players will suffer more than NA and EU players because of the geo distance JP has with other countries.
POV: Me playing in JP with a global version of the game I bought before, and can only match up with CN RU BR players right now.
i quit the game because all my opponents is over 300 to 400 ms...

glad you mentioned the combat ordeal 1v1s. they are my favorite arena mode, but activity is pretty low. usually i get a lot more casual, just-for-fun fights in this mode, and when i do get the occasional competitive player, they are usually quite good, better than your average arena duelist, and usually seem to be queuing up for the same reason i am - to have a bit of fun, try new stuff, fish, work on swaps etc. its ideal for me since im really only interested in *very* casual dueling and save my tryharding for ganks. the only significant downside to this mode is the very real possibility of being stuck for 5min in a match with someone who has insane packet loss, with no legit way to leave. in this situation, i have to admit, as soon as i realize someone has consistent, heavy packet loss, i just alt f4 from the match. i dont have the patience for 5 straight minutes of fighting someone with an unplayable connection. would be great if i could just use the finger sever and forfeit the match.
I don't get the feeling of "I love fighting this person, I want to do so again" that often, but I very much feel it when I do. It's nice to get a break from the players just running me down with halberds and offhand rapiers and people who just seem to hate all mages: you feel it when someone casts Barrier of Gold when you're using THORN SORCERIES ONLY.
I wish I could play this mod, I really do. That cosmic map especially is just my kind of style.
The fact that this mod exists makes me very happy to be a part of the community. But the fact that we will never get something close to this from FROMSOFT is very sad. If they paid better attention to the community or honestly just 1-1 copied this, that would bring a lot more people to this community and make PvP better.
Honestly, this is what deeply frustrated me with Elden Ring as a whole. They seem to have focused entirely on their game as a solely singleplayer experience and multiplayer is basically just a rudiment left from the previous game. They probably thought since they already had the system in Dark Souls 3 why not just copy paste it, but they never bothered to actually adapt it to the new state of the game with open world. The fact that there are no covenants in the game, that would give you at least some motivation to engage in online, absolutely broken co-op that doesn't let you freely explore the world without resummoning 100 times an hour, no riding your mount in coop which makes it sometimes completely unplayable and also lead to absolutely ridiculous invaders farming when you just sit in an inacessible spot and AFK while invaders just kill themselves/leave your world. I feel like From Software have 0 interest in supporting the community that to this day keeps these games alive instead of just beating it once and leaving. It's the only reason I got 1000 hours in DS3 and would gladly spend more - it's online. And they just slap it in their new title now because it's expected to be there, but don't bother doing anything with it to make it at least somewhat work.
@@kinezislp508 people whined and bemoaned the fact that invaders actually were a threat and slowly nerfed them down until now the system is against them. Seamless co-op and 20 player co-op shows that it can and would work with actual time and effort put in. But they do not want to bother to even put in 2 more slots onto invasions.
They never should have bothered. I said it before and I will say it again, they should have just never bothered with implementing invasions and brought the arena mode in sooner and added more game modes than just the three variations of combat if they were never going to put more time into the open world invasions infrastructure. They balanced everything around the open worlds strengths instead of accounting for stuff that would go down.
Day one was lawless as hell and ended up against the health of the game. Invaders had to learn to play dirty and exploit which only made the games health get worse and worse.
Exactly: make it a DLC and make me pay 5-10€, but for God's sake take it seriously

just an idea i came up with and thought id share
they're generally screencapping themselves anyhow, either by stream or just to have receipts. That being said, reputation is incredibly important in the community, so if you're caught breaking the rules and stuff, you're pretty much permanently labeled as a scumbag, so there's a very heavy incentive to play clean.
Great video as always. What a shame we have to go through such a rigmarole just to make the game as fun as DS3 was, but at least it's doable. Too bad we can't get good music or lore in the same way.
I have one more question, do you have any plans to make a large team based map akin to a WOW battlegrounds? I think it would be really fun to have a game mode where each team had to protect their boss and base from the other team. And the boss would be really strong so it can't get ganked.
If seamless COOP can support 128 people then that would be epic.
are there larger maps sized about the same as the base game arena? i ask this because im not convinced that arena size is an issue, i could be wrong but as far as i know status effects partially help the problem with passivity. as for running away constantly being a good strategy, i disagree unless the person is using regen, which i would assume is banned for competetive play, and could also be restricted in this mod possibly.
i only say this because i think it might cause people to go down the path ds3 went down regarding old wolf vs pontiff in the case that old wolf HEAVILY favors weapons that have the ability to damage people via backswing when forced into a corner when that only is a possibility on a handful of weapons, and furthermore is only a threat on 2-3 weapons alone, and a small handful of dual weapon setups.
i love the idea of custom matchmaking, and this mod sounds amazing, but i have a strong feeling these arenas are going to favor similar setups and actually stagnate the meta more than it will promote usage of more variety of weapons unless heavy use of aux is done and actually used in a manner worth considering.
It's sad that the fans are capable of coming up with far far more fun shit like this then the professional devs at fromsoft who are literally paid to do it. The jousting arena looks dope now if only we could customize our horse.

Hey tell me more about your mouse+kb experience. I've been playing a 100% free aim mouse playstyle since early this year and haven't since looked back at my controller. It's such a fun way for me to play the game.

FROM really needs to put more effort in the multiplayer aspect of their games, there is so much untapped potential and they seemingly don't care.

where can i get the automatic spectator cam?
Do you think you can add a matchmaking system so that everyone who is connected to seamless coop and this mod can find each other ? someone managed to create a mod that let you do pvp in Sekiro by using the Steam P2P functionality
You could setup the mod in a way where it matchmakes through steam lobbies alone, and only matches with other users of the mod. However, the exact execution of that is important if you don’t want to split the player base too thin across different mods and such.
I think ideally we have a framework for matchmaking server emulation down well enough that we simply have an open platform (like ds3 OS) where people can connect to servers which have their own mod requirements, and matchmaking mechanics.
If someone makes a good enough UI and installer, you could make it so people could download the required mods for a server with an adjacent button before connecting.
There’s a lot of thinking and planning to do, but we certainly know most things we want to do are possible. It’s just execution that concerns me the most

I like these ideas because of these problems I slowly became a villain and use strategies that are SCUMBAG level to try and get around the stalls and some people were manipulating their connection to get a free kill on me or use that dumb talisman with longer invincibility frames I eventually became disappointed in pvp and myself.😢

Did you switch characters after loading one other up? If so, restart your game and load the one you don’t have the items on. Also verify you have Seamless coop on the bottom right of the title screen

Recently got back to DaS3 PvP. I love ER for its PvE, but its PvP is a shitshow. DaS3 PvP still have a long list of dumb stuff that I hate, but its bearable.
But can you play with randoms or need to have a party?
There isn’t a direct way to play with people without talking and choosing a password outside the game

and knowing elden ring players they're a majority of ragers that would personally attack someone over something in-game related, be it ping/lag related, or abuse of strong weapons (example : power stance spears) or annoyed by builds (example : mage builds) or just simply raging over losing.
afaik all the networking modders have not raised any alarm bells about the networking in Elden Ring allowing for ppl to attack ur computer through it, they fixed it by the release after they raised the alarm bells of exploits in previous games.
But yeah, if you play with someone with this mod you basically gotta trust that they won't secretly or explicitly cheat. The vanilla game isn't impervious at all to hackers either, but the easy anti-cheat does pose a barrier-to-entry for ppl that would want to cheat
My god, forcing passive players to be more aggressive because of limited space to move around would make PVP so much more interesting.

The biggest issue isn't the size of the arena, its the fact that players can endlessly dodge because dodge does not have a minimal cost requirement. That said, the ability to duel over in the mod helps a ton.

Great now we aren't losing all the co-op players ( a.k.a the only invasion targets ) but also fracture the player base further by splitting the pvp players between this shit mod ( dont get me wrong the mod is "cool" and well made it just pisses me off that elden ring on pc is basically dead because normies thought elden ring was a fun co-op romp instead of the transient encounters summons and invasions are intended to be). From dropped the ball when they didn't sort out the horse back stuff and there for dropped solo host invasions this gave everyone the idea that invasions are opt-in. and no covenants really hurt players getting into it.
Old comment but i completely agree with all this man. Such a godamn shame. Tiktok really brought a tidal wave of normies to this series, and with how shit balanced the game is, its no wonder they dont take the pvp seriously.

I mean, Elden Ring pvp just feels like a sweat fest anyway. I know theres always been optimization in Souls pvp before, but this game feels like i always see the same few sets of armor and weapons, with the same combos of spells and ashes.
It looks like it's so boring.
