One is inside only ,and one is moody sometimes in sometimes out. We receive several "presents" daily on our porch. It's so funny how each has a different personality and preferences.

@Anwar super channel and shorts I think that it at least partially depends on the particular cat. Badically what I'm saying it that it shouldnt be taken as a template for the rest of the world

My cat Is amazing. She can go outside. But she often chooses to be inside. She’s always inside at a certain time at night and she’s never let outside before 10 AM. She really enjoys her life this way.
SHe always comes in when I call her. She’s never frustrated and she’s a perfect cat. SHe’s my first cat I ever owned and I think how I’m doing things is the perfect way to do them.
She is never outside all the time. When I leave the house she’s inside. I have a giant house with toys, scratching post, litter boxes on every floor. My cat has the best life of both worlds.
. Even though she’s my first cat she’s amazing. Everyone that meets her say, oh my God she’s amazing.
She’s so friendly. Her fur is super shiny, she gets thumbs up, clean bill of health from the vet and is always praised.
I am proud of her, we have routines, we play every night before bed. She eats all organic and is my best friend.
Loving, owning, having a cat is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

I've had several cats over some 45 years. Since I live alone, for practical reasons, they have all had an indoor/outdoor life style. All have lived a very long life (17+), but one which expired from natural causes at age 11 years. I have an extra large suburban lot, which allows much shrubbery around the house and a separate area of "field" (uncut field grass and weeds), which is a mini-hunting and nesting ground. Now older than most cats, the current feline, when out, stays most of the time on or under a large deck three feet off the ground and semi-enclosed. She is very territorial, so does not allow other cats to share that space. Her food and water are in the house, accessible though a cat door at will. If she wants to socialize with me, she isn't shy about it, but spends much of her time in her own world. In winter when its cold and/or wet, she tends to move into the house for the season. Always has her litter box there. Maximum life options for the cat. Minimum upkeep for me.

thats exactly the way to do it (if one is able to ofc). ppl compare cats to dogs by saying "if you wouldnt let a dog outside unsupervised why let a cat out?" but theyre 2 entirely different animals with different needs & requirements. dogs are naturally pack oriented and dependent on us for companionship, reassurance, behaviour training etc. whereas cats thrive on independence & control, and are more comfortable coming to us on their own terms. theyre not as needy and are far more competent than dogs at managing on their own while outside. theyre not as quick to trust strangers & know to avoid certain dangers. not saying that dogs are stupid at this, i love them just as much as cats, but dogs can be easily tricked, especially if desperate and hungry, whereas cats are more hesitant to trust a situation theyre not familiar with. ive seen ppl arguing against letting cats outside and mentioning their "instincts" in quotation marks as if thats not a real argument for letting cats outside, but thats literally a biological fact? cats cant help their instinct to want to go outside. so yeah i get kind of tired with ppl like this, even tho i get why theyre saying it and there are possible dangers for cats, but there are possible dangers for nearly everything and if we all worried about it like that then no one would be able to do anything.

When I lived in VA, Fritzy was indoor/outdoor. It was a very difficult decision to keep him indoors, but allowing him outside, we run the risk of losing him, and I don't think I could live with the guilt. The cat I have now has a high intelligence. He is a Lynx Point Siamese. Almost doglike. He is very attached to me and likes to explore and do things together. He likes to learn tricks and commands. And he needs puzzles and games like hide and seek. I have to work 8 hours a day, but always try to spend my evenings, mornings and weekends with him. Still he gets bored. But he doesn’t like a feline companion living with him either. So I agreed upon that he can go outside when I am at home, a few hours after work. He loves to come back home and get cuddles. In the evenings he wants to snuggle up, check out the fridge to see what I am eating and licking the shower floor after I am done. He is so happy when we sleep together and wake up together (and so am I). So. He is an indoor - outdoor cat. I am sure he can remain safe outside, we have no natural predators where I live (except the wolf has started to come back in the forest). But I am quite afraid with the busy road next to our house as well as the night coming earlier due to fall and winter time. We will have to see. I would love to teach him to join me on my bike as well as walk on a leash. We will have to find our way.

😊🐈‍⬛ The worst part is worry. We have a busy road too close for comfort, also. When she's been gone longer than usual (she normally is in and out all day) I start a spiral into anxiety. However she was feral and adopted us but remains very independent, so we let her come and go as she pleases, 😬 She causes as much grief as raising my son did. Gives as much love too. 💕😻 She's a very happy cat. She came to us in a snow storm, about 2 or 3 months old, a year or so after my dog died, she made life happy again.

@@aubreyleonae4108 Yes! I can relate. My cat also adopted me! And he was also a stray, brought to the shelter. My neighbour adopted him, but he chose me instead of her. Haha. But I really feel that he had a home before that. He is very easy going. He clearly chose me as his human and follows me around wherever I go. He lets me do whatever because he trusts me completely (and I think he can sense it that I will never betray his trust). Yet, he still likes to explore the outdoors. I can understand. I am a bit of “stray human” haha, so you can’t keep me indoors for too long either. So I let him outside when I am around & when it’s light outside. He always returns. And deeps down, I know he always will. But somehow when there is love involved there is also this feeling “ahhhh something can happen to him”. It’s not that I don’t trust him. I do. But well, “the world” you know 😅 But there is so much to see and explore! Water. Soil. Butterflies. Other cats. Sunshine. I totally get it ❤😊

The village Council offered to find them homes as barn cats but were turned down. Last winter was a hard one and most of them died, not due to the cold, but because of local foxes and coyotes. Very sad. Luckily, my mother had trapped one mother and her 4 kittens. They're still doing well on the farm they were relocated to. I've had both. My most recent cats have both come from stray/feral situations and neither showed/has shown the slightest interest in going outside. Neither look/ed at an open door as an invitation. I also had a cat with epilepsy (on meds) that never went outside. Otherwise my cats have had average lives as hybrid indoor/outdoor cats. It was normal. The current trend of indoor only is relatively new.

He also has some problems with peeing and doesnt like using the litter box that much. Hes also very fit and fast and wins a lot of fights

When growing up, I had an indoor/outdoor cat. He lived to 21 but he also ended up at the vet several times due to things that happened to him outside. He got hit by a car once and broke some bones. Luckily, he managed to drag himself home. He also had several surgeries to remove birds bones that got stuck in his throat. My current 20-year-old was an indoor/outdoor cat in a village for the first 12 years of her life. When I got her, I lived in a city near a busy street, so I didn't let her out. She's never tried to get out, so it's been fine. My city has a bylaw that your pets, including cats, have to be in your yard if off leash. Good luck keeping your loose cat in your yard! And now I live in an apartment and pets have to be on a leash any time they're outside. I'm okay with keeping them inside and they seem happy. I'm going to try leash training the 2 younger ones. I think that would be a good balance.

Spooky liked to go outside, every full moon she'd have to go out. She would come up to my bedroom window and wake me up in the middle of the night when she wanted back in. She did that year after year. I kept a good eye on her in the daytime when she'd go out. I would put her in the house when I went to work. She 21 years😊. My Russian blue cat Ringo used to go out roaming around for 9 or 10 days at a time before he'd come back. He did that for 5 years, he came up missing a week before last Christmas. I think they'll live longer being indoor cats 😸.

Good informative video!! Can remember growing up in 1970s that we had 5 cats: 1 cat was strictly indoors but would let her out under strict supervision and by leaving the door open so she had a quick escape route whenevr she felt threatened: all the other cats were indoor/outdoor, and they would leave home for various lengths of time. 1 of the cats was gone for as long as 6-months and we wrote her off as either dead or being adopted by another family. Then one day, she just returned and would not leave the immediate area of the house for the rest of her life, though she would still go outside. Eventually it came down to the cat's decision whether they left the fenced-in yard that we had but they all seemed satisfied by just going out into that yard and exploring the older they got. Of course, cold-weather months you could not get them to go outside even if you paid them. MISS those cats!!!

It's intresting that this is such a controversial topic, but it also kind of makes sense. It's an important ethical dilemma, just a cat specific version of it. But people sometimes forget that despite the disagreements everyone just wants what is best for their pets.

Now the 3 are so much indoor cats, that the polydactal got extremely stressed out for his latest claw trim.

Hey, I'm so happy to hear positive stories , I'm in transit with my cat , he showed in the community where he lived mostly outdoor, slept indoor , for 5 months , had other cat has a friend and dogs , but always depending on human attention. Fast forward and I had to move house , and now soon we will move again to a new place for 5 month's. I've been training him with harness and a few times he escaped or I let him out a bit alone , he comes back when called , but we don't venture to long ..I think I'm messing it up by not sticking to one routine, we will move again in 2.weeks , to the snow for the winter season and a part of me would love to have him roaming around , but I know it's now safe , I think there will be more cars etc so we will have to go out with the harness. Amy tips for an anxious cat mama , trying her best by trying a little bit to hard. He is happy enough , judging by play time and sleeping positions , but every morning he wants out for a while . So I need to compromise I think. Thank you so much for any help

I had 2 outdoor cats. Both of them needed life saving care. One cat ate 2 rats and was near death...i got her Vet help in time. My tom cat developed mast cell cancer tumors on his ears. His ears were amputated but the cancer kept coming back andveventualky cost him his life, dying after a ear ablation and dramatic scalp surgery to close the surgery. He died 40 min after the surgery. The sun is very strong in the Philippines on a white cat. He got cancer on his nose too.
Its indoor only if ever again because he was also burned with scalding water, caught mange, was attacked by a dog and got fungal infections, ringworm and ear infections.
Indoor would block all of that torture.

If you read this and your cat likes to go outside, I urge you to either leash train your cat or get a catio.
A catio is an enclosed space outside that lets your cat get the benefits of being outdoors without all the dangers.

I prefer the mixed option whenever possible. A ratio of 2:1 indoors:outdoors seems be be a healthy balance. Many indoor cats that become overweight do so because they are left alone all day by humans who work and don't have the energy to engage the pet in play when they get home, the cat is left with far more food than it needs and it's only stimulation or comfort from the boredom and loneliness is food, then sleep, then more food, then more sleep.

Our lives are enriched by four cats and we are lucky to live in a large 100 year old house with a rambling garden with trees, grass, bushes, a large lawn and a pool. The cats are free to move in and out of the house as they like. They frequently catch lizards and occasionally catch a pigeon, but it is rare that they catch other birds. One of the cats is an excellent rat catcher and he and his sister spend part of the day hanging out near our compost heap whre occassinally rodents are to be found. It is shaded by a guava tree so they have somewhere high to lurk and check out the scene. The only complanits are from the neighbour's large dog who can sense cats but cannot get at them and from the guava tree whose bark is scratched without mercy. Views of the rats are not known. The cats usually spend the night on our bed or near us. We have the best of both worlds.

All my cats just showed up at my door and never left. Some of them are TNR (Trapped Nueter Return) cats. Meaning. Someone or organization trapped feral cats and fixed them, brought them back and they made thier way to my door. With much patience, these cats let me pet them as much as a socialized cat. They seem pretty skilled at avoiding coyotes and cars being that they've been arround for years.
One day, a very beautiful fluffy ginger longhaired kitten showed up at my door and he almost came close to being eaten by coyotes so I brought him toy mom's house and we planned to keep him in the garage until we figured out how find him a home. It turns out he like living in the garage and he would be let out during the day. 4 years later he still lives in the garage, gets let out right before noon and comes back to be let back in dusk. If we want him back earlier, we just ring a bell and he always comes back. That cat is now my mom's cat and his name is Dino (the cat featured on my thumb nail icon.) He seems very happy with the arrangement and has never had any close encounters with coyotes ever since. He is also great company when we work in the garden.

Too many cat owners just chuck cats outdoors as it's easier and involves no effort. It should be seen as the same as having a dog. Walks on a leash, stimulus and being kept safely. After letting one of three cats out for about an hour at a time twice a day for his life of 8 years, I now have changed my mind and I'm not going to allow it anymore. One of my other cats I let out now and then got bit by a dog, had to take him to the vet cuz he had a bad limp, and thankfully he's doing really well after 4 days on Zorbium and rest. It just scared me and it took a lot out of me. So I had been leash training the kitty that goes out the most that I'm now going to keep you in and I've taken him out a couple times for a little bit of walking. He only flopped over once and did fine. He really likes just sitting on the porch with me with his leash on so that works for outside time. I also got him a stroller. I feel sad he can't go out. I'm taking away the most important thing to him and it really kind of hurts, but I'm in a neighborhood on the outskirts of town. I can't be sure there's not some wacko in the neighborhood who shoot him or hurt him, but if I lived in a more country atmosphere with reliable neighbors I wouldn't have any problem with letting him out through a cat door whenever he wanted.

Then two weeks ago this cat viciously attack our cat...what the vet called the "killer bite"...full face on, he had deep bites in lower jaw, three deep bites in his head and neck and badly scratched eye. Vet has said that for his own safety he needs to be an indoor cat from now on. This is proving hard as he looks so sad and depressed now that he has more or less recovered and is off all his meds. He has always hated a litter tray and we soon realised he got very agitated and meowed loudly when he wanted the toilet. But now what do we do? How to keep him happy and motivated for the rest of his life.

I just hope you’re an advocate for zoos aswell, seeing as lions live roughly twice to be twice the age of wild ones on average, are safe and well fed and can also be given small enclosures that try to recreate nature. Yet, if you could speak to a lion 99% of them would rather be in nature, experiencing and seeing new things every day, having more land to roam, while also increasing the chance of death, dieing of starvation, or disease. Just because 80% of animals live longer in captivity does not make it a good thing, unless you stay inside all day you’re a hypocrite, going outside drastically increases chance of death, dieing of disease, even being on the road as a good driver makes it more cramped likening odds of someone else or you dieing while driving. Stay inside, do nothing, have no stories or experiences and live til 90, most people would rather die at 40 living a fun life filled with adventure, tons of stories, meeting new people, and experiencing all that the world has to offer.

According to this video despite ALL possible cons of the outdoor cats, including ALL possible cons of an outdoor cats, it's the best for the cat to be an outdoor cat. I agree it is sometimes dangerous for cat to be outside and had taken mine to vet on more than one occasion with bite wounds, but it's a lot cheaper than fix indoor health issues I'm not worried about. In addition, outdoor cats are a LOT smarter. Statistics on life expectancy of outdoor cat vs. an indoor cat are either biased or absolutely wrong. An outdoor cat can die young fighting, but in most cases cats establish themselves outdoors and continue living. My neighbor's outdoor cat lived for 32 years.

    • @authenticpoppy

I'm not sure, but it must include strays and ferals. The life of non-spayed and non-neutered cats is rough and short. Kittens in a stray or feral situation often don't make it to their first year, so that brings the lifespan down considerably as an average. I have tried to find out where the statistics for this come from and what data they are using, but haven't found it. I'd love to know because I agree, it sounds shockingly low.

After that i got a indoor cat that lived until 23, she once escaped (we thought she was sprayed) and came home pregnant, she died like 3 years ago, we still have her son which is now 12.

I imagine if I opened my back gate and allowed my dog to have a wander around the streets, roads and scrap with any other dogs...or rats.....etc and shit in someone's garden who might be not happy about having cleaning up my dogs shit and let him know about it..by whacking it with a shovel...or less violently post the shit back through my letterbox...lol...either way i imagine hed not live long before he comes a cropper.....we have 4 indoor cats who are perfect ly slim and very agile..(it not like they can go to the supermarket and put out their own food and be greedy and over eat....fat dogs and cats are the product of humans over feeding them...that said ours only eat until full and then go off and do other stuff..)...they have free run about the house up and downstairs...up and down the stairs like they're been on amphetamines lol...apart from my music/guitar room and the kitchen..are always playing with each other and practicing fighting and hunting with each other...one minute theyre grooming each other..or cuddled up asleep...next they're like bruce lee in enter the dragon..lol...so they don't get bored or depressed...or lonely when we are at work......that said in a rural setting..or if its a "working " cat on a farm ..not so much a loved pet but just another animal to be used by humans like we use cows pigs sheep etc to kill and eat...I can perfectly understand an outdoor cat ....it a personal choice...with no right or wrong way....I must say that the recent cat that someone lets out every day and that keeps shitting in my garden and trying to kill the birds nesting in the trees ..(hey its a cat and by nature a hunter so it perfectly natural for it to kill prey..) will if my dog catches it probably unfortunately get very hurt if I'm not able or around in time to intervene..(hey its a beagle who thinks it's a wolf and it's perfectly natural for it to attack any threat or prey that comes on its territory) ....at the end of the day I love my cats as they were all unwanted and rescue kittens who in ones case been mistreated ..one was like skin and bone when we took her on and my wife hand fed her until she got strong enough to eat...she melted my f××

All the indoor/outdoor cats I’ve known have lived till over 10. I really don’t get where that study comes from, but I’ve never seen a cat that didn’t make it last 5

My first cat get beaten by Racoons, he opens the window break through the screen and scape even when I put something to hold the window. I use hormones, treats, toys to calm him down and nothing seems to work he cries all night. He was found in the backyard and now I have two baby cats they are rescue I hate to se them suffer and I am thinking to keep them inside.

Con: They may try to bring inside whatever they caught, which is not limited to mice and rats. My friends had a cat who got turned back outside because the woman noticed the bat wings sticking out either side of his mouth.

to me, if I lived in the country and had a great outdoors, I may consider an outdoor cat, but on the whole I know they’re much safer inside for me it’s less nerve-racking. And of course i have made them the biggest °CATIO° you’ve ever seen! It’s almost their own house!

@@weaponizedknight7316 same, I was so confused with all this talk about indoor/outdoor cats since it would be considered absolutely crazy to have an indoor cat where I live (except if you live in an apartment ofc)
