Roger can actually transform at will, though at first he wasnt able to, which prompted his departure from ruby's village and letting her learn to fight against the wolves that attacked her home
Also a lil weird detail, roger's dark gent skin wolf form is a white furred werewolf, which is somewhat like whitefang, the werewolf that initially cursed him, so in a way, if whitefang were about to transform into a human, he would look like dark gent roger
