Rick is the only character to treat the Squad like they're actual soldiers he's responsible for commanding and bringing home, a very stark contrast to Amanda Waller who sees them as pawns and would be more than willing to off every single one of them if they step out of line if it weren't for the fact that they could be useful to her.

I wasn't too excited to see Rick Flag again going into this film but he actually turned out to be one of the most compelling characters in the entire movie. Glad that James Gunn did him justice after being a glorified babysitter in the 2016 film.
That shows character development on Ricks part. In the first movie he treated the Suicide Squad members the same as everyone else. He called them freaks. But after working with them I guess he gained respect for them.
This is the one I've been looking forward to the most. Ratcatcher 2 was my favorite character, but Rick Flag was ultimately the one that I ended up having the most respect for. In a lot of ways he represents the best intentions within a corrupt system, and treats his team as equal and valuable, even appreciated. (They aren't just convicts to him.)
The doctor who implants the bomb into Savant (and says, "Good dog") is John Ostrander. He's the comic book writer who came up with the modern version of the Suicide Squad (there had been an earlier version). He wrote the book for several years, and every iteration of Suicide Squad - in the comics and the movies - has been built on the foundation he laid. He also co-created Amanda Waller (whom I hope you'll be talking about in a future video).
Calling him a parent is a really good description, I never would have thought about that. Well done.
Congrats on the James Gunn shout out! I hope that means he's keeping an eye on what people are saying and how much people love this film, regardless of its box office.
I don't know if you plan to cover all of TSS' characters, but I'd be interested in a video on Milton. Sure he doesn't get much screen time, but JG did make me feel for the guy.
I know you already have a video on Polka, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on why he didn't seem to associate his mother's face with Milton.

It is indeed heartbreaking to loose him. I really like the character.
I really like Rick Flag. He seems like such a genuine dude who cares about his squad even though they’re criminals. He has this sense of respect and compassion for them, as if they are his own men and he’s responsible for bringing them home. It’s very refreshing when compared to Amanda Waller who doesn’t care who dies in the squad.
I don't know if it was ever elaborated on in either Suicide Squad movie but in the comics (the original run that James Gunn took direct inspiration from), the Rick Flag who leads the Suicide Squad is actually Rick Flag *Jr.*
Rick Flag Sr. led the Suicide Squadron in World War II, consisting of "problem" soliders (loose cannons, soldiers psychologically damaged by warfare etc- basically the ones they didn't want on the frontlines). They went on suicide missions of the weird, very dangerous and off-the-book nature (their first mission involved dinosaurs on a secret island for example).
His son followed in his footsteps after the former Flag's death leading to the version of Task Force X/the supervillain Suicide Squad discussed here.
So if the movie version is in fact Rick Flag Jr. maybe there is another edge to the parental idea you've deduced?
A Suicide Squad prequel with Golden Age villains does sound rather fun.
i love a cute detail on the beach that Rick and Harley just casually stick side by side, and he trusts her enough to even let her be behind him. in the first movie, he would definitivily never let anyone like harley behind his back without being sure he's safe.

Indeed it was really annoying that in a stinger in the film, it briefly makes you think that he survived, before quickly revealling that Peacemaker survived instead! 😯😂🩲😐

I love your take on Rick Flag, and have to agree it was heartbreaking to lose him! My hope is that June (the Enchantress) from the first movie finds out and somehow taps her powers to bring Flag back. Probably not but still....it's a hope.

They upload videos of the flag to RUclips daily, it hurt many, the truth was, I thought why a week would a campaign come out to revive it

A lovely analysis of the straight man, and in this case, also the only sane man. But what is to be human other than to help each other? Though I hadn't noticed that aspect of his last words, it fits with the character he demonstrates throughout, and I think killing him was Gunn sticking a stake through this to avoid a franchise. Depending on his next project in the DCEU, it could be that the "do better" is part of a longer arc, and I would rather enjoy that if we're being honest. A great little detail is his yellow t-shirt which translates to, "obstacles are opportunities", and I've found that statement to be one of the truest.
As a complete aside, do you do couple's counseling, like helping Venom and Eddie come to an understanding? Both movies should provide some pretty good examples... 😁
I didnt care for him n the first film but Gunn did a great job of getting me to like him, and actually mourn his death in this film. Gunn just did such a great job of fleshing out these barely known characters in so little time.
Favorite scene: "Nanue! Stay off the coms!"
There's a nice moment in the movie at the bar where Rick Flagg pats Polkadot man on the head.

This version of Rick Flag is pretty much like that cool school teacher everybody likes, sadly he doesn't make it in the film.
I'm not going to spoil it for those that haven't seen the movie, just keep an eye on Peacemaker upon watching the movie.
Also good old Karma finally catches the definition of horrible employer Amanda Waller slipping, having her wake up with a headache looking mad salty. 😂

If you would have told me when the first Suicide Squad movie came out that Rick would be one of my favourite characters in the sequel I would have called you a damn terrible liar. James Gunn did such a good job of shaping his character for this one.

Flag is great because he is someone who is accepted by society, a very decent and sane man in all sense, yet still sees intrinsic human value in these criminals and societal wretches or has come to learn to see even these criminals and wackos have worth beyond their usefulness, unlike Waller.
I HIGHLY recommend you react to and analysis the cut-scenes from the video game Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
It actually tackles mental health and self-worth in an extremely clever and delightful way. :)

Perfect analysis this is my favorite version of Rick flag better than the Rick flag from the first suicide squad movie. His death was beyond tragic and sad.

Honestly, I was angry when Peacemaker killed Rick Flag.

His final words are a double untondra it’s pointing out peacemakers faults plus the ironic nature of the name and the faults of the squad which was ment to protect the peace

Could you do blackguard, i know he was there for less than five minutes and he betrayed them but he was my favorite character for some reason, prob cause I love pete davdison, I also love how u were able to analyze weasel so deeply as if he was an integral character.
