100% correct. The only important note I'd add is that disabilities are completely different to all the other characteristics mentioned. People with disabilities are, often, at an actual, *material* disadvantage. And it is is justifiable to discriminate in their favour in certain circumstances (to what extent can be discussed). For example, most people would have no problem with disabled parking. And I include mental disabilities, learning disabilities etc in this. When you hire someone “because” of their race or “diversity”they won’t be “included” because they weren’t a merit based hire and everyone knows it. If you really want inclusion you need to end diversity hiring. Do the trading for unconscious bias etc but you need to end diversity hiring because the way things are everyone looks down on someone seen as a diversity hire. I could claim diversity status to get hired but I make it clear to my interviewers that I don’t want any points for diversity. If I’m not the most qualified candidate then don’t hire me.
