On October 23, 2019, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, broke ground for the construction of the Western Children and Adolescent Hospital in Montego Bay, The facility, which is a gift from the People’s Republic of China will be built on the grounds of the Cornwall Regional Hospital for US$43 million, Prime Minister Holness also acknowledged former Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller, for the initial work done in lobbying with the Chinese for the hospital,
The Western Children Adolescent Hospital will be the first of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean On completion, the eight-storey hospital will have a 220-bed capacity, in-house pharmacy, emergency room, dialysis room, plus administrative offices, a food court, and accommodation for employees,
The hospital is expected to complement the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston by providing increased access to specialised paediatric and adolescent care. When completed, the state-of-the-art institution will treat children and adolescents up to 18 years old across western Jamaica. The hospital, however, is being financed primarily by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, which is providing external financial support. The Hospital was scheduled to be completed in 2021 but work ground to a halt because of the novel coronavirus pandemic in 2020, Workers on the project went back home, to China, The work on the project resumed back in 2022,

We need a Children's Hospital also in Madeville as it will be able to serve that region. It is too far in an emergency to travel all the way to Montego Bay and Kingston.
Staff will need routine training and good patient care. Also good communication skills and attitude.
💯 I agree with you to have more of these types of hospitals in case of some emergency 🚨 it will definitely save lives.
These kinds of facilities are expensive to build/maintain....with the completion of the East-West H2K (provided that they don't take it South to Black River), Mandeville will be roughly 25 minutes from Mobay...
...with the bulk of Middlesex's population being between May Pen and Spanish Town the next type A/Children Hospital will be best sited geographically between those two towns for spatial access convenience.

Most renovations at times can be unpredictable when it comes on to estimates etc. As a person in construction we started a dock repairs which includes underwater repairs and deck repairs upon starting project contractors realize their is much more structural repairs needed also above water deck repairs. Now the price will just balloons up
Appreciate this feedback very much. I just hope for both of the projects to be completed without any more delays or surprises.
Hpefully when jamaica economy improves further all parishes should have type A hospitals with paediatic care. Kingston and Montego bay is too far in an emergency.

If Jamaica gets to the point of needing a type A hospital in every parish then they'll need to DECENTRALIZE central government fiscally and technically....think about that which is even more important..
Montego Bay if you don't realize is the "capital" of the COUNTY OF CORNWALL. Jamaica needs to be decentralized governmentally into regional county council local government to strengthen the resource smaller/weaker parish based municipal corporations fiscally and technically in the most optimal cost-effective way...
Western children's hospital is a gift from the Chinese government. The people of western Jamaica should thank Portia Simpson Miller for choosing a children's hospital as a gift.😊

Can you make a statement without including politics into it? Politicians are elected by the people to work for the people! Why do you think they are doing you a favor? They are civil servants, meaning they work for us and not the other way around! Stop looking up to them like little Jesus!

The hospital is 8 storeys actually not 6 and the government of Jamaica is funding it as well more money was allocated in the last budget.

Having the building alone doesn’t make it good. It’s how efficiently it is managed, and having enough trained staff. They may need to get some Cuban personnel.

@@BrownBossJaTourseither do your homework properly or simply COUNT THE FLOORS...Kingston/Spanish Town hospitals only go to six floors while the Western Jamaica Children Hospital is eight and the CRH is ten....

Similarly early Kingston media reports claimed that the Pinnacle would be 25 and then 26 storeys instead of the current 28...out of ignorance/jealousy...so please count the floors and don't echo their Kingston bias..
