Greeting! And right at the beginning, I wish you a Merry Christmas and an excellent coming year. Greetings from Finland! I like your videos and I also dream of having my own farm where I could implement similar projects =) P.s this is already my third channel through which I subscribe to your channel =)
TGIJP...Thank God its Jons project! Your humor about your frustrations entertain the world! I appreciate you taking on the repairs instead of farming them out. Hollywood can't come close to your productions.
Just a thought.... I frequently watch much longer videos so that's not an issue... Your working knowledge of things makes the time fly and much appreciated. Best of luck to you!!
Great place for a break, Jon! I appreciate going through and making guesses at how the machinery functions, and then learning what's ACTUALLY going on, and getting some expert opinions on what's OK and what needs replacing. Much more interesting than just throwing dollars and parts at it! Looking forward to part 2, and seeing the old girl come back to life!
I kept saying to myself “just send it to Area Diesel” as you were trying to loosen that ball nut. I was sure you were going to break it but I was obviously wrong. Never underestimate the determination and resourcefulness of a farmer. That was very satisfying to watch.
Area Diesel are fist rate..learned of them thru Wes..and followed Wes on the tour of their shop..remarkable folks who are class acts..honest and excellent results..good of you to give them a proper shout out John..
Jon, good for you, I have watched quite a few of this or similar pumps like it, torn down and then they are sent of to a pump specialist, like ADS, so it’s really great that they are working with you. I have watched a few of there repairs and those guys are awesome, very knowledgeable and a great representation of there business. Can’t wait for part 2. I’m watching this at 0410 hrs in Australia, now mate that’s how much I like your vlogs
ADS seem like a very Stand Up Straight sort of folks, and what they do is extremely specialised, yet in moderately high demand, so if they can spend 30 minutes on the phone and mail out a kit of parts to FC101 instead of investing 10 manhours of work into the pump themselves, they get the good PR of being helpful, John gets an interesting video out of it, and Matt Diesel Creek gets to be good-naturedly ribbed for John figuring out how to pop that ball fitting loose without shattering it
Great job getting the pump apart. My stress level was high watching the disassembly. Cannot wait for the rebuild. Sometimes the easy jobs turn into a lot more. Those make the best videos.
More great stuff! Just as a suggested precaution for the future: when I'm connecting a battery to old stuff with janky wiring (as in this case), I'd always loosely 'secure' the earth/ground cable terminal clamp with a vise-grips or similar, and NOT tighten the clamp bolt. This gives me a quick-disconnect if/when the smoke and fire starts escaping. There's nothing quite like flailing around with a wrench or a pliers while the wiring loom is converting itself into an incendiary device :-)
There is a fiber governor disc down in the pump they usually come apart and block off the fuel return line that has a ball check in it, I don't know how many times I took them apart and cleaned the little pieces of fiber out to get good flow to the return to make them run right you just don't have a governor. Make sure you don't roll those umbrella seals on the shaft when putting it back together you will be hatin life.
Everyone: *sad face* at not seeing it rebuilt. Also everyone: That means more videos!! Thanks for the effort to tear down, very interesting mechanics for the era. No computers, just hand drawn engineering.
I have been an avid fan of your channel for awhile. Diesel Creek as well. Northwest Hillbilly too, and others. Thanks for sharing. Area Diesel is quite the safety net as they have amazing resources and craftsmanship. Good luck, looking forward to #2.
John, you didn't have to have part 2 tomorrow. I am just happy that there is more. This video was great! And it is extra great of you to work extra hard to get part 2 so quickly. You really are a good guy!😊
Please never worry about the length of your videos, they're very interesting your explanations are interesting, your self depricating humour is endearing and your voice is very soothing.
How the heck do you know about such seemingly obscure things as a weighted basket (whatever that is)? I would love to see you make a video about your background and how you learned all this other than, "Well, I just mess around with it!" I am pretty sure a "John's mini-bio" would be a hit! There was that rock-climbing reference (from a lift video), your ability to explain things well and other clues are tantalizing! I am thinking that you were a teacher who at one point who did some climbing as well as caving. What seems to be Blue Water static rope made an appearance more than once. Inquiring Minds Want to Know. Or, to put it another way, I am nosy!
I think its 99% self taught via youtube and other online sources. He mentioned he was actually working in the construction industry as a framer before he became a farmer, at least thats what I remember.
The only thing missing from you being a heavy equipment tech is... self confidence. your a solid guy... just remember even if you go above and beyond oem spec on a repair their will always be someone who will find something "wrong" with it great job!
In this throw-away world, it's so satisfying to watch someone bring something back to life and then use it. Good luck with this one, probably need to attack the fuel tank asap, so you don't have the problems that you had with the dozer.
Jon, I look forward to watching your video, every week. Tomorrow is going to be a tough one for me. Anniversary of losing my mom. My plans were to sit and cry. Now I have another new video to watch! I know it's not what you planned, but man does it help me look forward to something and get my mind off things. Even if just for a short while.
At first by curiosity and to improve my english, i'm finally totally addicted to your videos. So happy there will be an second episode soon, have to negotiate with my wife now...
Your's is the best channel on youtube to learn about equipment repair, be it generators or farm equipment. One can learn a lot from how you explain, perform the repair, and handle the sticky situations. Thanks for keeping us informed and entertained.
I really enjoyed this episode John. I found it so interesting. If I was doing that job, then I'm afraid Area Diesel would be getting a box of bits😅. Can't wait for tomorrow.
Oh my days .. I love my Friday hour with John (😳😉) .. cup of tea and settle down and I begin to get Deja Vu .. and then he mentions Matt at Diesel Creek … now I remember 😉🤣 then the best part is .. there’s a part 2 tomorrow.. cracking 😉 Look forward to it .. kettle will be boiled 😉🍿 Keep up the good work John 👍😊
Great video as always, Jon. I would not crank it without at least cracking open the oil drain plug and seeing what comes out of there. When the oil level is too high, there's always a risk that the crankcase is full of water or coolant with oil floating on top. Not the best thing to run trough the bearings.
MAN that pop when you finally got the ball screw thingy loose was so satisfying, had a similar experience the other day while removing my old AC unit, getting the tubing loose after fighting with it for 20 minutes gave me so much relief!
Man I love these. I know nothing about what he is doing, but I am glued to every minute. It reminds me of Sherlock Holmes novels. I watch Sherlock figure out the mystery, bit by bit, Then finally ... success. So satisfying!
With what you have found in the fuel pump, things look ominous for the future of this track loader. But I think you said it was not a bit of equipment you needed, but rather is a fairly inexpensive RUclips project. Good luck and keep them coming! I’m sure the majority of your loyal fans value your teaching and like the depth of your work. I sure do and my mechanical background is very limited.
I am excited about this new project. These restoration/rebuild series you do are so much better than the heavily produced ones that cut out all the trials and tribulations. It is just so much more real seeing a farmer figure it out without having a $20k special machine that was given to them as a sponsorship to show how "easy" it can be. Thanks for these, truly.
The lever on the left side of the dash is the reverser, if you're smart and it works put it in forward and never touch it again and just use reverse on the transmission. They are notorious for giving trouble. They are a PITA to work on and very expensive to repair. Farmer John in Ga. is a wealth of knowledge on those things and has a ton of parts both new and used for them. You will need them.
At 7:50 the lever on the dash is a shuttle shift to go from forward to reverse in any gear without the clutch. I have a 1010 crawler , just hope you never have to replace the cylinder liners. This tractor was the worst design ever. May the force be with you. Check your timing by moving the flap on the bellhousing by loosening the round head screw and sliding the metal flap up out of the way.
Hi John, I am thrilled that you are taking on this JD 1010 crawler loader. I feel your pain watching you tackling the fuel system. Two years ago, I purchased the same model crawler (1963). It was running and working at the time. I have only used it briefly, about 4 times the first year. The main issue with mine now is the steering clutches. When purchased the right side steered, the left didn't. Now the left side steering linkage is broken. So now it looks like a complete final drive tear down to repair it. Great video and work you are doing. Best of luck getting yours running again. I'm hoping that yours doesn't have any other issues, however if I could choose who to watch do that job, it would be you. Thanks
Part 2 will be ready tomorrow, I promise! Have an awesome weekend folks!
i gotta say this channel is on my mt rushmore of youtube channels, just pure content. no waste of time, regular uploads, as good as it gets.
Two videos in one week!. Is it a Christmas gift? Thanks :)
It’s called a Bristol wrench. I have one that took me forever to get. No one will tell you what size it is. It’s top secret I guess
Tomorrow 🤩 now i know why i wanna wake up early tomorrow 😂 Very cool John, thanks a lot 😊 Greetings from Germany, Chris
Greeting! And right at the beginning, I wish you a Merry Christmas and an excellent coming year. Greetings from Finland! I like your videos and I also dream of having my own farm where I could implement similar projects =)
P.s this is already my third channel through which I subscribe to your channel =)
LONG ............... I PERSONALLY ENJOY LONGER VIDEOS !!! REALLY LIKED THIS ONE MAN , GOOD JOB !!!
That thing is making oil!!!👍😂
and asphalt.
That is one nasty injection pump. That's about as bad as it gets. Great job cleaning it up. Can't wait to see part 2.
Something tells me, you've already seen it.
THANKS for keeping Jon and Matt running!
steve
You could take a train locomotive apart blindfolded and reassemble it upside down under water with only your left hand!! Amazing skill set sir
LOL! 😆😂🤣
4014! Jon probably could have rebuilt
Big Boy! I'd be watching nonstop, but
Ed wishes he could be there, (Ed

Farmcraft is prob my favorite channel on RUclips!!❤❤😊😊
Yay! You deserve a very Merry Christmas! Because you're giving us one!
That air hammer/torx bit combo was mint!
This is my opinion. Your longer videos are not a bad thing, I'm looking forward to part two. 😊
Agree. This whole video was a gem!
I usually only like long videos
Great advice with the fuel pump.
I am a great believer in "If you don't know how something DOES work, you will never know why is DOESN'T work"
Cool old John deer track loader Jon @FarmCraft101
Nice job on getting that ball out of the pump without breaking it, I bet that felt good!!
TGIJP...Thank God its Jons project! Your humor about your frustrations entertain the world! I appreciate you taking on the repairs instead of farming them out. Hollywood can't come close to your productions.
Don't know why you don't keep going I'm doing just fine sitting here watching. Thanks for taking me along
Totally agree. 👍
"I do believe we just ruled out an easy fix". Genuine LOL!
Awesome sauce, nothing says a great weekend when a dormant machine awakens! Good luck
My jaw dropped when you got that off without breaking it, Bravo!
I work the telecommunications industry and the positive has always been grounded for the corrosion reasons you mentioned.
I enjoyed this video......I was bummed that it was over....
John, if anyone any man is the one to take on a project of this scope, it's you. I love you videos, man. Thank you.
Just a thought.... I frequently watch much longer videos so that's not an issue... Your working knowledge of things makes the time fly and much appreciated. Best of luck to you!!
Woo! So glad Part 2 is coming out tomorrow. This is already a really interesting rebuild.

I really enjoy when you tear things down and explain how they work. Easily my favorite channel.
Always a laugh to see the seals😂
You're a far, far braver man than I, Gunga Din, to tackle that fuel control.
Nothing better to start the weekend off like a notification from Farmcraft
You sir are absolutely my favourite RUclipsr , awesome content 👌👌
YOUR THE MAN JOHN. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
You can tell it's almost Christmas! Thanks, it looks like a lot of hard work but I'm sure the old girl will be grateful to you.
The latest news was great, I can't wait for it to happen tomorrow. John, we glad to have you.

Aussie Aussie Aussie!!!
@@Hyratel I thought exactly the same about Matt messing up the extraction of that piece to
Great job getting the pump apart. My stress level was high watching the disassembly. Cannot wait for the rebuild. Sometimes the easy jobs turn into a lot more. Those make the best videos.
It’s nice knowing I can always throw it all in a box and send it to area diesel. Takes some of that stress off!
And you... have an awesome weekend... don't do what I wouldn't do!!😁😁
More great stuff!
Just as a suggested precaution for the future: when I'm connecting a battery to old stuff with janky wiring (as in this case), I'd always loosely 'secure' the earth/ground cable terminal clamp with a vise-grips or similar, and NOT tighten the clamp bolt.

Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
South East Washington state
High marks for trying it yourself..❤. (No matter the outcome..)
those are some nice looking gauges
You explain stuff so well. You'd be a really good teacher.
If you get that pump back together and it actually pumps fuel I will be one impressed son of a gun. Good luck, love your "I can do this" attitude.

Always very satisfying to watch your progress John, I respect your tenacity !👍👍
Why you making me wait man... just kiddin... you are the best... Great stuff, as always!
WOW! GOOD JOB! CONGRATS!
If I bought as many ‘toys’ as you (lathe, mill, plant vehicles etc), I have a feeling that I wouldn’t stay married for very long. Good luck my friend.
Saw it sitting in a bunch of videos! Hoped we’d get to it sooner or later, and here we are! Weekend is a go!

My bet is that he has a degree in mechanical engineering. He definitely knows the lingo.
I agree!
I thought he was a high school Industrial Arts teacher. If they even have those anymore. And I agree, would be interesting to see a bio video on him.
I think its 99% self taught via youtube and other online sources. He mentioned he was actually working in the construction industry as a framer before he became a farmer, at least thats what I remember.
Remarkable work, I take my hat off to you.
Looking forward for part 2.
This is going to be a very fun project to follow along with! Best of luck!
The only thing missing from you being a heavy equipment tech is...
self confidence.
your a solid guy...
just remember even if you go above and beyond oem spec on a repair their will always be someone who will find something "wrong" with it
great job!
Love your channel, Jon. Love your thought process and your willingness to try and fix most things.
Jon make your videos as long as you want and most of us will watch every minute.
I really like watching you fix parts that most people (myself included) just replace and go on.
Good call on repairing the pump for us to watch!
In this throw-away world, it's so satisfying to watch someone bring something back to life and then use it. Good luck with this one, probably need to attack the fuel tank asap, so you don't have the problems that you had with the dozer.
Not a problem, love the long videos,I’m looking forward to seeing more tomorrow.
The vibrating aero-hammer was a stroke of genius.

Great video, Jon- I admire your 'can do' attitude. Looking forward to Part 2.

Well done John, I enjoyed that, looking forward till tomorrow. Bob
A dreary Friday afternoon and a new video from Jon. Life is good.
Thanks for not letting us wait for a week on part 2🎉🎉
Greetings from Thailand, a place where glow plugs are not required. Looking forward to part 2.
Thank you John. One hour well spend. I will be there tomorrow. Great work.
Omg that Pump is Disgusting Holy crap at all the Debris Jon 36:40 @FarmCraft101
