@@MarketPowerYT I am! Doing my undergrad in economics & finance at a small university in Canada (University of Guelph). Hoping to get into an ivy league economics program for a masters or phd though, with the help of your tips!! Honestly I'm more motivated and excited than ever after watching your videos 😃

This is huge for me now, going into my senior year. Wish I had it as a freshman. I think it's important regardless of if one ends up attending grad school. Having that target in mind makes helps prepare for applying for future careers. The GRE might not translate directly, but the GPA and letters or recommendation certainly will.
Wow this is not a bad video however the Yale PhD Programme is one of the most Competitive Schools that one can apply for. So for 2020 this is a really great video in the short and long term. It is really common to get loads of rejects before one has the scheme to success in the programme of thy choice.
Just came home from a seminar held by a professor from Yale who's from my country. Pathways to PhD was one of the topics. I can tell everything you said in this video, he mentioned each of them with same emphasis. It definitely isn't flowery.
Thanks for such a great video. I'm still undecided between a PhD in Economics, PhD in Finance or PhD in Business Analytics. and I barely have 6 moths to come up with a decision.

the biggest mistake i made as an undergrad was not become close with anyone in the department. So, obtaining letters of rec now seems impossible. I am hoping to at least get one from an employer and see where i can go from there

Can you make a video about what is needed to become an economist? I’m entering my junior year as an economics major at a state school, and I know I want to become an economist, but I’m not sure if I need to pursue a Master’s degree, or PhD. A video talking about the subject would be very helpful!
Market Power I’m not too sure, but I was thinking of working for the Department of Treasury or at a private sector economic consulting firm. Not sure if that answered your question.

I'm an econ undergrad at BYU (freshman) and I want to do a PhD in economics. I'm in linear algebra right now, and my grade isn't the best, and the odds of getting an A are slim. The rest of my transcript (so far) has been good, and this would be my first non-A grade that I can remember. Does the severely hurt or ruin my chances of getting into a good grad school even if I can do better in my other math classes down the line?
I can't describe how good this video was, but I have an important question and please answer me. I was an economics bachelor and we didnt have linear algebra and calculus in our courses. Now that I have graduated and I want to apply, how can I fill in the gaps in those courses? If I fill their place with pass this courses in Coursera and get their certificate, will they be effective in my transcripts and admission? Plz answer🙏😭I need your advice.
What would you advise to expect in a M.S. Econ program? I am starting class in the fall and think the biggest thing I need to brush up on is my math, but do I have to know Calc 1-3 and Real Analysis for a Master's program?
What do you think about applied economics master's program? I live in California and UCLA and a few other schools in my area offer an applied or quantitative economics master's. I'm not sure if I should go into that or a PhD.
I'm a little skeptical of 1-year masters programs. But if it is a natural extension of what you're doing right now then it could be a good option. For example, if you discovered economics late and didn't get all of the classes you wanted then a 1-year masters could be a good option.
What are your thoughts for those with 1-2 years of full time work experience in private sector (my case, analyst/associate at a large US financial institution) and maybe not have had as much "research" experience? Should I seek say an RA position or a Masters, etc? Any insights appreciated :)
What is a good ONLINE college to get a Bachelor's in Economics? I' only took 1 college class in Eco in college. I do already have my JD and Master's in CJ. Looking ultimately for a future Economics Master's. Help!! Online only
Hi Please answer me. I had to know your opinion. I got Q167 and V 163 and 4AWA in GRE recently and I want a Ph.D. in economics should I retake the exam to get the perfect score in the Quant section or is it enough?
Quel tu pense de the Miller's Analogy Test(MAT)? I mean, I'm applying to the MIAGE program at the U (completely unrelated to economics for the most part) and they only ask to be 51st percentile in the MAT, but is there any reason to go and try to impress them further?
First, I can't even understand why someone would want to go to the U....But this is the only program I've ever even heard of that accepts the MAT. I would go with the GRE in case you want to explore other programs. No matter which test you take, you should always try the best to impress.
Thank you! Very informative! Big fan of yours from India! Will a research assistantship after graduation increase my chances of getting into a good grad school? My undergrad cgpa is around 3.5. Will a good cgpa in a master's program help me compensate for the average undergrad academic performance? Thanks in advance.
I know a lot of people who worked as RAs after graduation to improve their chances of getting into a good school. For some it worked, for others it didn't change much. It probably depends on skills and the professor you work for. I'm not sure how a master's program GPA is considered relative to the undergraduate GPA.
hey , undergraduate in which subject , statistics or maths can increase the chances of getting into a top us phd ? I'm confussed and plz tell if age really matters while getting into a us phd? i mean do they consider younger students over older ones ?
Math tends to increase your chances the most. Schools like to see you have the math background to deal with the theory. I'm not sure about age. I've seen older students in PhD programs. If you're just graduating from undergrad, they probably don't care.
Thank you for that! Quick question, I have an undergrad in accounting, tired of accounting going into an MSc Economics advanced theories @ Purdue to boost my Econ Phd applications into top tier univ.. Do you think I have a way to get into top tiers University with that?
Yes, that should improve your chances significantly. While there, try to meet with professors early and tell them you want to do a PhD. Ask for their advice and see if there's a way to do research with them or on your own.
@@MarketPowerYT Great!!! Thank you so much for your quick response, I will do so! Starting next week monday 24th, I will really like to keep in touch with you it looks like you have a lot of advises to offer! How can I contact you?
Hi @Market Power can you recommend any economics book/video series that can help me learn how to do economic research on my own? I do have a BS degree in finance (studied basic economics, business mathematics, statistics, and finance courses) but I am not sure how to begin answering a research question.
If your goal is to get a PhD, then yes. Even if you don't want a PhD, a lot of the technical skills needed today will ask you to have a solid background in calculus.
Great videos ! I currently am in first year of economics at my University in Uruguay, but I am about to head to Toulouse School of Economics which has more renown than my current university. It is also known for being harder than other french universities, do you think going to Toulouse is a good decision if my final goal is to get a PhD in the US ?
TSE has a fantastic reputation. Of course they have Jean Tirole, who won a Nobel Prize a few years ago. I know three or four other professors there. Working with Tirole is probably pretty hard, but if you could work with other professors you will have great opportunities in US PhD programs.
Obviously a PhD from a top tier school qualifies you to teach and do research, but what are some fields other than academia that an Economics PhD might be useful for? Also, what is the approximate ratio of Economics PhDs teaching in universities vs working for government or other institutions?
