I'm an industrial mechanic. Totally different kind of work than what Paul does but I do get the impression he really knows what he's doing. That's the result of a lifetime of having confidence in his ability to get the job done, whatever it takes.

Man, Those parts boards with those freshly painted overhauled parts are driving my excitement meter to about 108%. Beautiful shop, beautiful restoration work, beautiful airplane and one of the TOP restoration specialist in the country. I can't wait!!!!! My 1/6 scale R/C model I had several years back, of the 108, was honestly one of the best balanced feeling models I have ever built and flown, and I have built and flown a lot of scale models since 1976!!! There is even a ARF kit of the Taifun that's still being manufactured.

No wonder you guys win awards. The precision detail that you go into to get this aircraft to Messerschmitt factory production line spec is pretty amazing, I am sure the technicians in the Messerschmitt factory would approve of your high standard of workmanship and also the use of 21st century techniques like more advanced hardware preservation and wood glues would also be highly approved. That chrome is sure going to sparkle up in the sky, look forward to the end result with a glass of Rum as a toast.🥇👍

Another excellent update Paul. You are a natural in front of the camera a pleasure to watch. Your expertise and enthusiasm is infectious. Although not as technical I have completely restored a couple of vintage tractors and like you have used as much of the original as possible. The feeling of achievement and satisfaction on returning it back as new is indescribable. I am also a aircraft enthusiast so your videos become doubly interesting. Look forward to your next update. All the best Mick.

This bf-108 will end up being of far better quality than it was when it first rolled out of the factory, what with all the attention being paid to the most minute internal details , and I think the chrome work is superior to what went into the bird originally. Most restorers would probably skip over many of the internal details, saying if it functions the same, leave it be. Thank you Paul and Kermit for yet another superb update video.

  • @Alienasa1

It's really neat to get to see some of the design and engineering that went into an aircraft like this back in the day. Many channels cover vintage planes flying, but not often do you get to see how the whole thing ticks.

To be honest I was a bit tensed as I hoped this video would be posted earlier (05). But I have to say it is well worth waiting. One of the best in the 108 restoration videos, although all are good. Thank you for a very interesting video again, showing all the quirks and solutions, finding unexpected hurdles and solving problems as they show up. When you are finished, the plane will be as new and shiny as it gets. Maybe, after your last restoration video, you can do an extra one, describing what was different with this restoration, the pros and cons, what you liked or disliked. Thanks again, Cheers Paul and Kermit !

    Hi Paul
Been watching your series. Cadmium Plating is a metal that is plated on the part. It is a cyanide based plating system. It is a sacrificial coating something like zinc plating. The gold cad or clear cad that you refer to is a Dichromate conversion coating applied after the part is plated. Sodium Dichromate is mixed with acid and the part is immersed rinsed and dried. The Dichromate conversion coating is a extra sacrificial coating. The Gold Dichromate is a higher concentration of Sodium Dichromate and a different acid than the clear or also called Blue Chromate. Most companies use Zinc Plating and then the same conversion coating. More EPA friendly. I am retired and restore Automotive Carburetors to how they came from the factory. I do my own plating and conversion coatings. That is all I can add to the Aircraft Restoration. I have restored cars for many years and the time it takes to do it right. You are a true Craftsman. Keep the Videos coming.
    Harold

Paul you really are a top class aircraft restorer and one who has to adapt to so many different materials used in the construction of vintage aeroplanes, this update really shows us how the project is one huge jigsaw puzzle in order to get everything fitting together at the right time and in airworthy condition.
That chromework has exceeded all expectations real quality work from that company,it is a good job we have so many craftsmen left to do things like that complex upholstery which no doubt when it returns will be like new again, your description of the way the side panels are concaved is typical of pitfalls for the unwary.
Love this series, and all of your painstaking work that goes into things, thank you again for taking the time and effort to produce the videos in between doing the important work on the Bf.108.
